For beginners, I think walking is a good start. Map out a route and try to keep a good pace. "Map my route" is a free app that times and maps your walks. It's a really nice app. You can try doing some walking lunges and things while you walk. Then, after you feel more comfortable, you can try some other things like Yoga,…

Are you willing to exercise? Maybe walking? For quicker weight loss, I'd suggest lowering carbs, and upping fat. Do some research on ketogenic, Atkins, protein power, paleo diet plans and see what works best for you and how you like to eat. Eta: don't be discouraged if you don't lose 35 lbs - that's a lot of weight to lose!

I think keto is great and works for many people. I also keep my carbs lower and feel much better that way. My advice is to make sure you take magnesium everyday and if you start feeling flush, a good remedy is to drink some bone broth (beef or chicken broth). I think making some soups for the first few week is helpful. I'd…

I second this sentiment. I have allergies that cause me to retain water/inflammation and not lose weight. I'd also like to know what your tests say...my thyroid was, "normal," but my symptoms said otherwise. After getting my actual results, I was able to find out that I was hypothyroid. Pcos is also something that can…

I used the twinkie example, as that is the one that is commonly used. I don't think the content of my post should be discarded because I used the all day twinkie example. To correct: I couldn't lose weight eating toast with butter/jam and bacon, bowl of cheerios with milk, or waffles with an egg for breakfast, turkey…

I think you should up good fats intake and lower carb intake. Try to keep it under 100g/day. I think your diary looks good otherwise. Lots of protein! With estimating (like the oil on kale example you gave), I try to estimate based on my portion - so if I ate half the kale chips, I'd account for 1/2 tbl of olive oil. In…

mjo1102 - I agree with you completely... People here can be of no help. I, personally, cannot lose weight by simply eating at a deficit. I find that my moods are better, I feel better, my autoimmune condition responds better, and I lose weight when I eat more whole foods (which, to me, is "clean" eating). To me, that means…

I think it's great that your water weight came off quickly. Unfortunately, any water weight that I gain doesn't magically come off in a week. I'm still fighting with 3 pounds gained a week and a half ago. It sucks, but not all metabolisms are created equal.

None of the comments in reply to make any sense. If you've read studies that have convinced you that gluten sensitivity doesn't exist, fine...but don't then go around telling everyone who has read and believes to the contrary that they are stupid.
-
Why do you post something just to be an a**? Why does it matter to you if gluten intolerance exists or not? I don't get it. If you don't have issues with gluten, then why do you care? Science is not finite. All discoveries have not been made (or else the word discover would be obsolete). Take your close-mindedness and go…

So, looking at your diary, I would suggest upping protein intake ( set a goal to reach every day), reduce dependance on protein bars and shakes, (limit to 1 per day), and decrease carbs (again set a goal to stay under a certain amount). Fat will fall into place. I liked your eggs/avocado today. Focus on natural sources for…

I had chronic migraines for years and found that eating things with MSG, aspartame, and various food dyes, exacerbated the problem greatly. Since I've been off of those foods, I find that eating someting with them can cause an immediate migraine now. I also supplement with at least 400mg of magnesium per day. That has…

That is truly mean - I will never understand the need for some people to put others down in order to make themselves feel better. At least you can lose the weight (and you are trying hard to do so! that's comendable and AWESOME!), they have to deal with their awful personalities for the rest of their lives...that's the sad…

The cold deli meat thing is apparently a risk for listeria (a bacteria). They recommend that you heat your cold cuts in the microwave before eating (or you could put your sandwich in the toaster oven or panini maker). Some women eat cold cuts...it's really up to you. I'm jealous that you didn't even find out until you were…

Yes, it's safe. I've hear that you can continue your workout program. If you have complications, or are unually tired, I'd relax a bit, but it is really good for you to remain active. :)

Unsweetened vanilla from Trader Joes (in the dairy case) is my favorite. It's great in tea, coffee, recipes, pudding, protein shakes, fake ice cream (frozen banana, cocoa powder, ice, almond milk, and dark chocolate).

hjay - congratulations! I'm due about the same time. I've just beeing trying to eat more whole foods all around. I haven't been able to work out as much because I'm exhausted and now feeling pretty sick all the time. However, best intentions aside, today, all I can stomach is ruffles chips (only the Lord knows why - I'm…

Hi everyone! I'm due march 27. I had my hcg betas done at 5 and 5+2 and my numbers were 8000 and 15000. Do you think it's strange that it is doubling so quickly still? I have read that doubling should slow down... Also had my first real bout of sickness today. Ugh. I hate throwing up. Anyway, congratulations to all!! I…

Just found out I'm pregnant with my first and I am so TIRED! All of you guys talking about keeping active - I love it, but just reading it makes me want to take a nap! I was pretty active before....6-7 days per week then about 2 months before I dwindled to 2-3 days/week. Now I'm lucky if I get in once/week. I went to body…

I don't understand it either. I don't believe in "everything in moderation" from the get go. It's taken years, a lot of journaling, and a lot of reading for me to have a semi-normal relationship with "binge" foods. I'm an emotional eater, so I worked on it. I worked hard to identify emotions and find other outlets for…

I use it mostly in my coffee, whipped in the magic bullet. YUM!

Can you explain more? I have back problems (herniations in my lower and upper back), which have caused nerve pain to radiate down my leg and arm. I also have thryoid issues and used to have chronic infections (temp was always 99.something) until I had my tonsils removed 5 years ago. I found that cutting out gluten has…

Will you be thinner than her if you lose weight? Probably a jealousy issue...she wants to be the best looking girl in the room for her wedding...sighhh. 13 more months of this type of behavior? I would bow out gracefully if possible. She'll be upset, but it's better to have her be angry with you then quietly put up with…

Are you sure your thyroid was ok? They say "normal," but what was the number. I had a normal number, but had a lot of the symptoms. I found a Dr that would treat my symptoms, and I am much happier and healthier now. I went off the BCP about a year ago? or so to regulate my hormones. I have been reading up on regulating…

Are you sure you aren't pregnant? I've seen some crazy stories of women getting pregnant even with an IUD or on the pill. I'd take a test to be sure (unless you have). As for logging, I'm with the people that said I wouldn't worry about logging. Eat what you can. Peppermint tea helps (I brew hot, then add lots of ice), as…

I would suggest finding a Dr that will prescribe a T4/T3 blend, either natural or synthetic. Naturopaths are good at this. I felt a lot better once I started taking some T3 (the active form of the hormone) along with the T4. Some of us have problems converting the T4 to T3. Google the info. Also, as stated above, you need…

5'10" here and I'd love to be 145! :-)

I think it's strange when there is no mirror in a workout room - group classes and weights. If you don't want to look, then don't look? I don't see the issue.

Looking at paleo eating blogs/recipes has helped me the most. I stick with meat, fruit and veggies mostly - lots of roasted vegetables at my house. Lots of eggs. Lots of nuts. Yes you will have to make you own stuff more. I would not rely on store-bought items at all. I try to make 3-4 servings of 2 dishes on Sunday for…

Get back on track and then see if you lose any within a week. If the trend starts going down, I wouldn't worry about it. If you are on track and conitnue to gain, you might have a thyroid issue. I have one and just had tests - thought I was properly medicated, but just gained 5 pounds in about 2-3 weeks. It is real weight…
