  • You sound like me! LOL. But I actually prefer my face thinner. I don't feel like I look like me when my face is pudgey... I've always heard that at a certain point, a woman must choose between her a** and her face - meaning, you have to keep a bit more weight on later in life in order to keep a little more fat on your…
  • I used to use Swanson's Vitamins Grass Fed Whey - That is still my favorite, but I cannot tolerate dairy anymore. Now, I use vegan products. I think my favorite is True Vitality Green Foods with DHA. I buy the vanilla. I think it has the best flavor (mild) and I like that it has no stevia. I also like that it has folate…
  • They are like little personality tests and they are in the book. Do you have a library card? I suugest going to get one...they are fantastic! I, personally, am very affected by hormones, so it is what was part of my problem. Also,k how the foods I ate affected my hormones. I suggest you try talking to a different Dr. Not…
  • Everybody's needs are different - but I can offer what helped me. (just like everyone else in the thread did... Not sure why you singled out my post?) Perhaps it is a place to start for her...especially if she's not ready to see a professional yet. It is, at least a few steps in the right direction.
  • That book I mentioned covered those issues. It had little tests so you could pinpoint what brain checmicals you needed to focus on and then diet plans (more like, foods to include in your diet) for each. I found it really helpful. I'm much more even now since changing my diet to include less carbs and mroe good fats and…
  • You are not alone. You are also not a failure - binges are not failures and they never take you back all the way to square one. I worked on this issue for years. For me, it was about emotions. I read tons of books on emotional eating and learned how to figure out what I was feeling so that I could learn to deal with the…
  • Very odd, but it's my breakfast - I make 28 oz of coffee, to which I add 2 tbl coconut oil and 4-6 oz of almond milk. I mix in the magic bullet for 1-2 minutes and then put it in my thermos to take to work.
  • To actually answer the question... Some days, I just need to eat more. Maybe I've worked out really hard that week, maybe it's hormonal...lots of variances. I just eat maintenance calories for the day (like 2000/2200) and make my extra calories protein/fat - so I'll put 2 tbl of sunflower butter in my protein shake. Eat an…
  • Lol exactly!!!
  • For those that are carb sensitive or have carb addiction, it is a must to find out what your trigger foods are and what level of carbs is good for your metabolism. I've read books on binging and emotional eating (because I wanted to heal myself - I felt unhealthy and out of control). It is much easier to avoid the Oreos…
  • I have the same problem with ice cream. I can eat it by the quart. I've found that coconut and almond milk varieties do not trigger the same "must eat ALL the ice cream" response. Lol I also make "milk shakes" with a frozen banana, ice, cacao powder, almond milk, and protein powder. I add chocolate chips at the end after…
  • Do you mean like sick as in heart disease or sick as in throwing up? You won't make yourself throw up eating at least 1200 calories per day. Add 1/2 an avocado mixed with lemon juice and salt on top of a chicken breast or steak. Add a tbl of butter to your cup of veggies (or on top of your steak). Eat an oz (21-22) almonds…
  • I have days like that. I'm usually more hungry the next day or the day after. I think it is how "normal" people eat (like my husband) and to just embrace it. Now, if you aren't super hungry like this for weeks, I'd wonder about it more. Also, don't be afraid of going over your calories a bit tomorrow or the next day.
  • Good point. I also work to restore my gut health by taking l glutamine, slippery elm, oregano oil, and probiotics everyday. Very important!
  • I don't eat gluten (and therefore wheat), dairy, and have just cut out eggs. I don't eat a lot of soy or corn either - I have been trying to cut them out for a long time. My advice is to focus on what you CAN eat and not what you can't. Everyone is always worried about me, especially when we go to restaurants, but I know…
  • I wanted to second this - I make sweet potato "fries" for my husband and he loves them way more than regular French fries. Chop, toss in olive oil, salt, and pepper, and roast at 425-450 for 30 mins (I flip at 20). AND, avocado pudding is DELICIOUS! Tastes way better than the original. It's so rich and chocolatey.
  • Have you gotten her tested for Celiac disease? Many children with that diagnosis have Celiacs. Just a thought. :)
  • I follow a similar diet and right now, I have it set to 20% carb, 25% protein, and 55% fat. This is because I'm trying to get in at least 100 g protein per day (per a Dr's recommendation). He also wanted me under 100g carb/day, which is fine because I feel better lower carb and higher fat. I feel more satiated when I eat…
  • OP - I'm not sure about the diet you are doing, as I haven't read the book, but I don't see how it could hurt to add an egg yolk to your meal. That's just my opinion though. Why not try it for 2 weeks and see how you feel and how it affects weight loss? Sometimes, you just have to do some trial and error, I think. Good…
  • I like that you went and got strawberries! I've had this happen at work and since I have a pretty limited diet, there is nothing I can eat here if I didn't pack it (except the lays potato chips, but I'm not a fan). So, I just sit there and embrace the hangryness. I fantasize about the food I could be eating for an hour or…
  • Magnesium has a relaxing effect on the body. I think it is just a good supplement to take though, especially if you are exercising. It helps with muscle repair. Epsom salts are magnesium, and Epsom salt baths are used to relax sore muscles.
  • I take a magnesium supplement right before bed and that helps me relax. I also take 3mg of melatonin - helps me tremendously. If you can move your workouts, you might have better luck, but if you're open to supplements, I'd give those two a try.
  • Keep your feet as raised as possible. I get this and it fluctuates in severity depending on I have no idea what...lol. For me, it's worse at work. I bought compression socks and they help. I bought the kind you can use for exercise and I love them! I bought the ones that just cover my calves on amazon.
  • I would see a doctor now. It could be the weight, it might not be. I didn't read all your follow ups, but do you track you cycles? Meaning, do you know when you ovulate? I would track at least three cycles (with temps) so you can more easily identify an issue - like luteal phase defect. There are many things that can cause…
  • I like to blend a frozen banana, some ice, almond milk, cacao powder, and some chocolate chips. Sometimes I'll add frozen cherries! To me, it's like a milk shake and it definitely satisfies the ice cream need. Sometimes, I'll add protein powder and even spinach to make it more of a meal. I don't taste the spinach. Also, I…
  • I like true vitality. It has 15 g, lots of vitamins, and the flavor is mild. I also like that it has no stevia. I also use biochem vegan vanilla sometimes, but I don't love the taste of that one as much - it has like 24g of protein and it's just pea, hemp, and cranberry protein. Again, no stevia.
  • I also had chronic migraines, a thyroid issue, and autoimmune disease. I take 5000 iu/day and it's taken me years to get it back to a normal level. It took so long, my dr kept testing me for celiacs because I wasn't absorbing it well. I went gluten free on my own and have felt much better...that's when my levels really…
  • Tjs is cheaper, especially for organic produce, frozen veggies, and organic meats. I mostly shop at tjs, but mix it up with sprouts and whole foods. I like whole foods, but it always reeks of fish...
  • I am gluten and dairy free - talk about it being hard to go to restaurants... But, I'm always able to find something delicious! Lots of restaurants have cool salads that I wouldn't have ordered before, but now I try them because it is a new and interesting flavor combination. I've expanded my pallate and become more…
  • I agree with you! Maintenance is difficult to me - I had never been able to do it before. After the last time I lost weight, I held onto that loss for over a year and a half. I learned that I still need to watch what I eat, how much I eat, and continue exercising at the level I was. You "know" that this must be a lifestyle…
