  • Don't drink alchohol, it might help you get to bed, but your sleep will be less restful. A few ideas: Get in bed about an hour before you need to go to sleep. Turn off all the lights about a half hour later. You should even cover the alarm clock - you want it as dark as possible. Breathing exercises/meditation can help to…
  • I chop up sweet potatoes, toss them in olive oil, salt and pepper and roast them in the oven. 350 for 15 mins, flip, then 5-10 more mins. Might not have the crunch you are looking for, but have great flavor and salt. Good side dish!
  • I haven't done shred, but I totally get what you mean. I have a harder time with some exercises than shorter people due to my height. I always thought I was just gawky. lol. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
  • Ryan Reynolds - hot and hilarious, can't beat that combo! Ryan Gosling - He's grown on me...I like the sensitive eyes. He always plays such great guys. Girl Crush - still Gwen Stefani after all these years.
  • Download the Nike Fitness App. It's free and you don't need a gym. For some of the workouts, you need a pair of hand weights and/or a medicine ball, but the exercises can be done without them. If I can't do something, I modify. As for walking, it's great. Don't get discouraged. Add some squats, lunges, whatever (lots of…
  • Does your boyfriend eat healthy? I ask because sometimes night time "binges" are due to having food around that you don't want... I have so many friends that want to eat healthy but have a hard time once their significant other wants pizza or fast food. They lost their resolve once the order is made. He should be…
  • Lots of good ideas posted! I don't have time on weekdays either, so I make a bunch of stuff on Saturday/Sunday for the week (for myself). Breakfasts: (Keep in mind I like a substantial breakfast) 2 harboiled eggs and a trio bar (nuts/seeds bar - raw nuts and a few dried cranberries would work) 2 mini "quiches" (I roast…
  • I love dessert, but there's no way I could finish one of their pieces of cake (or cheesecake). I'd be happy to have leftovers for a few days. It spreads out the joy.
  • Same thing happens to me. I use one foot for awhile. Otherwise, I do other cardio.
  • I have this problem as well. I've been reading and journaling. There are lots of books on the subject. I did a search of amazon and found a lot with great reviews. Then I searched my local public library for those books and checked out a bunch. I read them and do the work, journal, read more, work more, journal more, etc.…
  • New doctor - ASAP. Mine was rude to me and I'm finally dumping her. (She never gets back to me about test results either, and a few times, it was very important). Get to an endocrinologist. My doctor would never treat me for my borderline hypothyroid numbers, but my endo LISTENED to my symptoms and that along with the…
  • I would do weights as well. I tore my glut or hamstring years ago and now it causes me a lot of pain. Don't push too hard too fast. Ask your dr to refer you to physical therapy. That has helped me a lot..
  • I was diagnosed hypo in 2008-2009. I've gained and lost since then on a few different diets, but since jan 2012 I've lost 25 lbs and maintained that loss. It's not easy all the time, but the scale has moved in the right direction and stayed there.
  • MFP will assgnes 1200 NET calories - they put a * near that number and define NET as total cals - exercise cals. So if you eat 1200, you should eat your execise cals back (or about 1/2 to 3/4 of most MFP estimates of calories burned). OP - when do you eat dinner? Is it really early? I think it is best to eat a protein/fat…
  • I love drinking water, I take a liter to work with me and I fill it up when I get home, so I don't really understand this issue... BUT, that being said, when I want "something" that isn't water I choose: Coffee with almond milk Green tea (decaf) Sparking water with lemon juice or pomegranate juice and lime. Really any…
  • Just finished reading this book and got a lot from it. Thank you for posting! I've also read a few other books that touch on this information. It is very real and very hard to break because my drug is available everywhere I go, sometimes for free, and if I say no, people will hound me about why I won't eat it.
  • This is a HUGE problem for me when i cut calories. I can do it for like 4-6 weeks and then hunger gets me and it takes everything not to fly off the rails (and gain everything back). I think your body wants to restore itself back to what it knows, if that makes sense. My only solution has been to eat at maintenance for…
  • Bump. Thanks!
  • Exactly! 1) He can make his own. 2) It's a simple question of common courtesy - we should all teach our children to respect other people's things. If something is mine, you ask permission before you gobble it down. When he's 18, moves out, and as a roommate, he will need to know about this stuff. 14 is plenty old to make…
  • I've read the forums over there quite a bit since the "Kate Upton" scandal (or whatever you want to call it). I'm fascinated by it, to be honest. I think that there are a few things going on over there... Lots of young girls who want to be thin and beautiful. I remember how it was to be that age and to feel that way and I…
  • My husband is exactly the same way. He's 6'4" and weighs 166-167 in the mornings. That's the heaviest he's ever been. I swear his bones are made of feathers because he has quite broad shoulders, but a 32 in. waist (but he'd love if they made 33s lol). He gets acid reflux easily (finally went to the Dr about it). Anyway, he…
  • I agree that you need to see a Dr (probably multiple) and push for testing. I have a bad back/hip/shoulder and I've been to so many different Drs, it is maddening. After finding out I had herniated discs, I've been to physical therapy, had cortisone injections, and been to a Chiro for A.R.T. I'm now in physical therapy…
  • I think 425. I have a gas oven that tends to cook a bit slower than normal, so take that into account on timing. You want it high enough so they'll brown and get a little crispy.
  • My emotions lead me to binging. I'm trying to learn healthy coping mechanisms and to not go straight for the ice cream for the dopamine rush. I like sugar combined with fat for the feel good effect - cakes, brownies, frosting, ice cream, etc. Blue Bunny Red Velvet ice cream may be the best thing I've ever eaten... It's a…
  • Sometimes, it help to eat a few hundred more calories of protein/fat (for me). Like a piece of whole grain toast with avocado, tomato, and cheese (melted). Nuts are also good in a pinch. Do you have any sweeter foods that don't unleash the monster? Someone mentioned dark chocolate - that works for me too. I can have 1-2…
  • I roast them in the oven. I cut into "fries" or just into rounds and toss on a foil lined baking sheet with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. About 15-20 mins, flip over. 10 mins and done. I've also tossed in a bit of fresh sage and rosemary too, but no need to get too fancy. Salt and pepper is enough.
  • I have this issue as well. Do you take any medications that can increase appetite? Antidepressants and Thyroid meds can do this. Also on days you exercise, you need to eat a bit more. I find that a protein shake helps if I drink it within a half hour to an hour after the workout. If I'm extra hungry, ill add some fat to it…
