  • Years ago when my mom and I had a black lab retriever who was 100 lbs, we had to put the couch cushions upright at night. Otherwise, we would catch him sleeping on them! He knew he wasn't allowed on the furniture. So, try putting the cushions perpendicular at night and see if that works.
  • In my opinion your sodium levels are really high.. you may be retaining water, especially if you aren't drinking enough water to offset the sodium levels. CDC recommends 2300mg/day and MFP sets theirs at 2500mg. I set mine at 2000mg and try not to go over too much.
  • I would alternate a week with my mom and a week with my dad, and the parent that I wasn't staying with during the week would get me for dinner two times. They lived in the same school district so it wasn't a big deal for transporting back and forth.. I did this from ages 12-18.
  • Two morningstar farms veggie burgers with a cup of plain greek yogurt..
  • I grew up eating nutritional yeast as a topping for popcorn. Now I also add old bay seasoning which sounds weird but gives it a slightly salty, spicy kick to it. You could also use it as a breading.. my mom used to make pan seared tofu with nutritional yeast as a coating along with some other herbs/spices. Skinnytaste has…
  • I've mountain biked and consider it to be similar in endurance/effort to spinning. I think 849 calories for 2 hours sounds about right depending on your height/weight, especially if you're completely exhausted by the time you're finished!
  • You could try crock pot meals so you don't take more time out of your schedule (traveling to/from Subway, ordering). Skinnytaste has some good ones (I recently tried the slow cooker pork and green chile stew and loved it) and members here have posted a bunch of stuff on the Recipes forum.
  • Usually there's a cucumber salad on the menu - cucumbers, rice wine vinegar, maybe some sweetener - I love this take on cucumbers! This, the chicken satay appetizer, and a couple shrimp summer rolls (not deep fried). Steamed vegetables with peanut sauce on the side is a good alternative, too.
  • ^^This! I've made 3 recipes from Skinnytaste this week already and I've enjoyed all of them.
  • Herbed carrot soup from the "New Moosewood Cookbook."
  • This happened to me the other day as well and it's awful!! I don't know what caused it but it definitely wasn't lactose. I do keep note of when it happens in the hopes that I may eventually be able to figure it out. My step mom did an elimination diet and found out she's allergic to almonds and has an intolerance for…
  • I manually reduced mine to 2000mg instead of the generic setting of 2500mg. It's amazing how much sodium is in prepared foods! In general I just feel better with less sodium. Ideally I'd only like to have 1500mg/day but that's only been possible for me on days when I make all my food from scratch. 2300mg/day is the maximum…
  • Add it to a smoothie with some banana and greek yogurt.. maybe some pumpkin pie spice too.
  • Try having a large cup of water in your hand, or make some tea. I find once I start snacking while watching TV I keep going back for more snacks! I think it really has something to do with needing to be doing an activity even while on the couch or at least having your hands occupied. Computer/phone games sound like a good…
  • I pretty much always substitute plain, unsweetened applesauce for my muffins, cakes, brownies. I buy the snack size versions since each "cup" is 1/2 cup and I typically don't use more than that at one time. If the recipe calls for 1/4 cup oil, use 1/4 applesauce.
  • It's my belief that some of us just aren't ever going to be that flexible, regardless of all sorts of stretching and yoga. I've never been that flexible - I failed the 8th grade "toe touch" test in gym! - and neither has my dad and I'm built similarly. I stretch after every workout, do yoga 1-2x/wk and yes my flexibility…
  • I now get the Shrimp Tandoori with a side of chapati (roti) at my favorite Indian place.. They also have a broiled fish specialty called Fish Tikka. Maybe where you're going has these??
  • I'm not new to MFP, but I realized I finally needed to drop the 10 pounds I gained after being in a new relationship (eating out and socially drinking way more). I've always been relatively fit and could eat whatever I wanted, but all the dining out and wine flights finally caught up with me! For me it's focusing on…
  • Not exactly the same, but you could try Trader Joe's Soyaki (490mg sodium/tbsp) or Island Soyaki (320mg/tbsp). Some Teriyaki sauce brands may be lower in sodium as well.
  • I heat a nonstick pan with 1 TBSP of EVOO to medium/5..once the oil is sizzling, I put in the tilapia filets (usually 2) and apply a liberal amount of coarsely ground pepper to the side that is up. Leave alone for 4 minutes. Turn over, and again apply a liberal amount of coarsely ground pepper and leave alone for another 4…
  • I made gazpacho last week and I really like this version. It made approximately 9 cups for 8 servings @ 111 calories/serving. I would even add less olive oil next time for a tangier gazpacho and fewer calories. I combined all of this in a pot and used my immersion blender to blend until smooth/slightly chunky. Refrigerate…
  • I LOVE making soups during the fall/winter. I make double batches so I can freeze some for later. Experiment with some of the following types of soup: carrot & sweet potato butternut squash & sage chicken & veggies caramelized onion cauliflower & white bean
  • If you're going to Beijing, Shanghai, or Hong Kong.. they will have stores with women's sizing if you need clothes in a pinch. Otherwise, I'm sure your hotel will have a tailor and you can get your current clothing taken in. An aside, I did not feel all that tall in China like I originally thought and I'm 5'7". The street…
  • What about ordering broccoli or other veggies and a meatball (or two depending on size) with red sauce? Or substitute the meatball for a bowl of soup like minestrone? That's what I usually get at Buca..
  • absolutely! 120 calories for just 1 tablespoon. yes, it's healthy, but it's not calorie-free.
  • Kind bars!
  • This one was awesome, I added 1/2 cup quinoa to my salad to bulk it up a bit and doubled the tomatoes. I did the same thing a week later but with canned crab meat sans the horseradish and that was also tasty. .…
  • What about a mango salsa with "Food Should Taste Good" multigrain chips? Or some other kind of fruit salsa like this one? http://skinnychef.com/recipes/tropical-salsa
  • I'll admit, Jif tastes like candy after eating natural peanut butter where the only ingredient is peanuts!
