Just an FYI: don't call a 5k a marathon. A marathon is a very specific race, 26.2 miles. Just call it a 5k. :^)

Find an exercise that you love. There is no reason to run to lose weight. none. zero. zilch. Many people do it because it requires no gym membership, no equipment (other than shoes) and no real coaching. It's something you can JUST DO. Weight loss happens in the kitchen, not on the jogging trail. If you want to lose…

You've got to get the inflammation down. the NSAID will help alot. I'm not sure if icing will help your hip, but cold definitely helps reduce inflammation. The hip is kind of a deep joint so it might take a lot of time/ice to get anything done in that area. Sadly, unless you're going to lay in bed all day, you're going to…

At 500 pounds, the very best thing you can do is focus on your eating. Continue to lose weight through diet. Focus on this one thing, and do it right. Don't worry about inches, don't worry about how you look, don't worry about how much you can (or can't) exercise. Since sitting in the shower seems to prevent all of your…

It's working, keep going. Congrats. BUT Figure out what you're going to do when it stops working. Because it will. 1200 is DOABLE but likely not SUSTAINABLE. Before too long, I'd start ramping up calories bit-by-bit. That way you can "target" that 190 lbs and at the same time figure out how many calories you're going to…

Yeah, don't do jumping exercises! Focus on strength exercise... keep it up with the squats, add push ups, yoga, other body-resistance exercises. I would think that as long as you're not jumping/stomping or working out in heels, it's not going to be an issue for the downstairs neighbors.

With only 2 weeks left, there's basically NOTHING you can do to IMPROVE your half-marathon fitness. But there's a TON of things you can do to wreck it. The top of that list would be to continue to run long distances with an injury. IMHO: Reduce your distance and intensity immediately. Only run every-other day until the…

What time of day are you jogging? Any chance that you're just tired anyway? That said, I've been fighting off some AWFUL yawning fits during my stronglifts sessions. Sometimes you're just tired. It happens.

Nope. Holy Grail.

Strange women, lying about in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme Executive Power is derived from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony! I mean, if I went around saying I was King, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me…

Get big, stand still, and be as "scary" as possible. A loud, firm "NO!" is your best defense if you don't have pepper spray or a gun. I live in the country when I'm in the US. There is one big black lab that runs out close to the road and barks... but is not otherwise aggressive. There are smaller dogs that run out into…

I just realized that when I stand up straight, you can see the definition of the bottom of my rib cage. I'm still about 25 lbs overweight. I'm ecstatic. My body chooses to keep a lot of fat in the "spare tire"... the 4 inches directly above my belt, all the way around my body. So, yeah, your ribs might show. Don't let…

Beg, borrow, or steal an HRM. It's the only way you're going to get anything close to accurate here. You're talking about biking at 3.7 miles per hour. that's extremely slow.... a fast walking pace. It would be hard, but not impossible, to stay balanced at that speed. It's going to depend on your weight, too. A 200 pound…

How are you measuring "loss?" Weight is not the whole story. The success forum is littered with folks that haven't lost any weight but have lost SERIOUS amounts of fat. You lose fat by eating at a deficit, not from any specific kind of exercise (for the most part) Keep lifting heavy. If you're not seeing progress on the…

I brush my teeth. Then I know that if I eat, I will have to brush my teeth again.

12 miles is 63,360 feet. If each of your steps is ~2 feet, then 30,000 steps is completely reasonable. I don't know about the settings, I don't have my flex yet.

If you go "looking" for the time to workout, you'll never find it. When you get busier, you have to "make" the time to workout. Yes, you're going to have to spend less time with your other activities. It's a trade off.

As a manager, my job is to clear roadblocks for my people, who do the actual work. CC me ONLY if you need help. Otherwise, handle it. I don't need to know the details of every damn thing you're doing. I want the overviews in your weekly update at staff meeting. Exception: If you're handling something but you know you're…

Lately, I've been doing onions, garlic, peppers, tomato and celery with the meat of my choice. Heat a skillet with some sort of oil (I've been using sunflower since it's what we have) and dice the onions and garlic and add them to the pan. Dice the peppers and celery and add them a couple of minutes later. Slice the meat…

You don't realize it yet, but you're starving yourself by eating at a deficit AND doing all of that cardio. Long story short: In your effort to lose weight: You did, and you will. The bad news: You lost muscle. Ditch the cardio. Start lifting. and start lifting HEAVY. You need to build muscle mass so that you can safely…

You look fantastic!

I would say that unless they have the most unbelievable quality-control ever, and they're cranking out 100g potatoes reliably.... that the box is actually WRONG and should say "per 100g" instead of "per potato" there's no "magic" that happens chemically to the starches in the potato to make them different.

Any time you "stress out" your body you give the germs a chance to take hold and/or assert themselves. Getting tired from working out, or from not eating as much "fuel" as you're used to is a perfect time to get sick. It's pretty common. Just roll with it.

Just for a little context for the people saying "You need to confront your mother." Yeah, easy for you to say. http://aveilandadarkplace.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/what-it-is-like-to-be-a-muslim-woman-and-why-we-know-what-freedom-is/ Clearly that's not every Muslim woman's experience... but it's out there. And it's an…

BOOM! there's a big part of the problem. Glad you got it figured out. See if things don't go a little more smoothly for you now.

Over exercising is not doing this. However, not eating enough to support your lifestyle could be a major factor. Eat consistently, and eat enough. The more you can do to "stabilize" your eating/sleeping/exercising ... the more consistent your results can be.

I do my best. you're logging because: 1. It gives you accountability to yourself and others 2. it gives you data, so that if something starts happening with your weight loss/gain, you can go back and figure out what's going on. 3. So you can know and remember what foods you can eat without sabotaging your own goals.

someone who has seizures when they ingest too much phenylalanine(an amino acid), which is one of the components (along with methanol, an alcohol, and aspartic acid, another amino acid) of aspartame. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylalanine#Phenylketonuria Aspartame is synthesized from 3 "natural" products: phenylalanine…
