  • Generally what I do is: 1. Walk to the gym. 2. Work out. I've tried other ways (like working out before I walk to the gym) But my family thinks I look like an idiot standing in the middle of the living room, with no weights, trying to do an overhead press.
  • People that see you everyday may not notice 25lbs, depending on where you started. 300->275? Probably not. When I went from ~235 to ~210, people who had not seen me for a while started to notice. People who saw me every day did not. Funny, I gained about 10 pounds earlier this year, I had three people tell me that I was…
  • x3 on the Stronglifts. Just starting week 3. It is: EASY to learn, EASY to follow, and starts out EASY. Then it just gets a little harder every week. Lots of support here and in other places on the web. And it seems to work. And it's FREE.
  • This is correct. I can tell that my overhead press is nearing my limit, I could barely get 5x5 at 25kg on Friday. So, let's say that on Wednesday I get: 3x5 1x4 and 1x2. failure #1. I do NOT increase my weight for next Monday. Then, next Monday I get: 4x5 and 1x2. Failure #2. I do NOT increase my weight for Friday. Friday,…
  • SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP! (that's what I tell myself. It's also what I'm telling you! :^) )
  • There's the rub. How easy is it to eat an extra 50 calories? It takes a lot of discipline to keep that 50 calories out of your mouth. I mean, that's one big apple slice a day.
  • You're eating, you're exercising. 4lbs a week is not "unhealthy" unless you did it for 20 weeks or so (you do the math) It won't continue... alot of it was water, and some of it was fat. The lighter you get, the fewer calories it takes to "get you through the day" so it will start to slow down, and then it will stop…
  • At this point, you can try anything to see if it works. Doing it like they told you... isn't working. ;) Mine works anywhere along my rib cage, for the most part. (I use a Garmin) Also, I move the detector over to the left side, it is not centered on my chest. If I wear it too close to my moobies, it rides up. So, under my…
  • Just because you have a "healthier diet" doesn't necessarily mean you'll lose weight. Aside from what other people here mentioned about water/glycogen retention... Even if you're eating BETTER food than before.... if you're eating MORE food than before, you're obviously going to gain weight. Make sure you're logging your…
  • With proper form, and if you "ease into it" this is not really a concern.
  • I meant "below" like "closer to your belly button" rather than "below" like "underneath" :^) It's all good. From your original post, I thought that maybe you meant you were wearing it "above" your bra, like somewhere between your nerple and your neck, instead of "below" like somewhere between your nerple and your belly…
  • You should be wearing this below the bra, not above. Around the bottom of your chest, closer to your stomach than your neck. And it should be TIGHT. You can use the electrode gel as someone noted above. In a pinch, you can spit on (or lick) the electrodes. Once you get warmed up and your sweat takes over, it is all good.
  • Indeed. All of those marathon fatties. yuck.
  • I only wear tight shirts while running. If I wear shirts that are loose, I get the nerple chafe. Also:
  • I award you ten internets for this post. Also, take the day off tomorrow, you deserve it. There will be a little something extra in your paycheck this week.
  • FIRST: THANK YOU for your service. SECOND: Keep kicking *kitten*. You're doing great!!
  • Miles and miles and miles of running will make you faster. For one of your running workouts, do some speed work. (intervals or fartleks... I love saying "fartleks") For another one, do some hill work. Do one "long" run every week. Increase distance slowly (no more than 10% per week on your long run... same for total weekly…
  • Generally, it's usually better to trust "boots on the ground" (ie, your physical device that was there during your exercise.) rather than an estimate from a software application. When you put in "45 minutes of exercise" an application assumes you were hard at it for 45 minutes... while your fitbit realizes that you stopped…
  • All of the programs are free. What he tries to get you to pay for is access to the "Inner Circle." The "inner circle" costs about $200 a year. I've been doing SL 5x5 for a week now. It feels pretty good. I use the iphone app and it's very convenient. Good luck with your workouts!
  • Good News! It means you're getting stronger, and your squats are being effective! Bad News! Not a whole lot you can do about it. Read the "Bonus Facts" section in the following link to see ways you can reduce the soreness (but not get rid of it completely.)…
  • So, this happens WHILE you're running? I would suggests a few things: 1. Go to a running store that will do a shoe fit for you. It sounds like you're probably turning your toes WAY in while you run (Stand with your toes pointed WAY in, and feel the tightness in your ankles.... same muscles?) OR, you're trying to run on…
  • Don't cook it when you're tired, cook it in the morning when you're rested. Here's what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks: cook breakfast. 2 scrambled eggs. Eat breakfast. Then, using the same skillet, I'll cook up some meat (either beef, chicken, or pork) and vegetables. (onion, red pepper, garlic, celery, and…
  • Yes, anything naked! Also, a distant second: Mountain-Biking.
  • I usually go the polite route. "That sounds fantastic... but no today, thanks." If they kept being a-holes about it, offering 4 or 5 times in a day, I'd probably finally accept, with a gracious and sincere smile, and then immediately chuck it in the trash while they watched. Top it off with a silent stare.
  • I know how you feel. I live and work in China. People here are honest. There's no stigma about telling someone that they've become fat. Actually, there's no stigma about mentioning any change in a person. None. Zero. Zilch. So if you've put on some pounds, people will tell you. I was in a meeting the other day, and a lady…
  • How do you know your Ultra wasn't "high?" They're both just a reference to use. Wear them both for a week. If they're both consistent (with themselves, not with each other) then note the difference and move on.
  • Pizza is a big problem for me too. Listen, it was one day. Go get some good sleep and wake up tomorrow refreshed. It's done, you can't change it. don't stress about it, and don't do it again. One day is NOT going to derail your progress. Obsessing about it... might. :^) You've done a GREAT job so far. Focus on THAT.
  • AWESOME progress... .our stories are similar in the "gaining weight" category. I love the idea of "total weight lifted" <walks off to do some spreadsheet improvements>
  • You've done a damn fine job, girl.
