• Thank you! Yes I do feel like I've come on leaps and bounds regarding maintenance compared to my younger years! (Thankfully at 37, I'd still like to finally get slim!). I think you're right, I need a plan stricter than maintenance and a way to incorporate a social life yet still make some sacrifice. When i have a night out…
• Yes food scale. I'm confident accuracy isn't my l issue, it's about the general approach of stricter Vs moderation
• Well done! I hear you about slow and steady and lifestyle changes. It takes super consistency and a level I haven't managed to achieve over the last 4 years - the whole 80% healthy 20% naughty for me seems to result in maintenance which is why I feel I need something a bit stricter. I feel I need a strict weight loss…
• Fairly accurately with MFP - it's a question of how strict I approach things now in terms of restriction vs moderation.
• I've made a big lifestyle change since I lost the weight four years ago - in evidence by me not having gained all the stones back. BUT, I still binge on a smaller scale - the same 7 pounds on and off. My current slow and steady lifestyle change basically is producing keeping me maintaining but not losing this last 21…
• Ah thank you that will be it, will delete them!
• Ah it's not posting my whole post... Ah, advice please! I've been a life long yo-yo dieter. My weight had always wildly fluctuated - couple of stone up, a couple down and repeat. I look back to when I was 18 and 10 st 7 (147 pounds - now my ideal weight!) and thought I was hideously fat
• Not starvation mode (google this and 'myth', it does exist but at much lower cal levels), but your body can get used to what you're doing. I had a personal trainer who recommended a 'cheat day' one every two weeks, not an excuse to overeat but a day eating at maintenance. I regularly diet for a few weeks and have a weekend…
• Amazing transformation! Very inspiring thanks for sharing. So sorry to hear about your mum too.
• Well done you! I could just about run for a few minutes to the end of my road (about 60 pounds overweight and a smoker). Now I'm an ex-smoker, 30Ibs lighter and ran lots of 10ks and now a couple of half marathons. You'll be amazed what you can achieve and what your body can actually do when you put your mind to it. First…
• Some great success stories, keep it up!
• And goddam you auto spell…and why can't you delete a post or edit a title!!
• Get yourself down to your local health food shop. Here's a brief overview of what I typically eat: Nut butters to replace spreads on toast and for making up sauces e.g. curry etc (100% natural peanut butter, almond butter, cashew nut butter). Almond milk for cereal, tea, making sauces, baking etc. Salads with avocado,…
• I've found myself in the same boat. Though I'm 33 - must be even more tempting when you're a young student! It's good that you've started to notice how calorific alcohol is! It is a shame to work so hard on dietary changes and exercise, only to blow it on boozing at the weekends. Also, if you're really hungover, you have a…
•
Quote: Also, if a tub of margarine fell on the floor, I'm pretty sure my dog would be just as quick to lap it up as butter.
I wouldn't say this is a good test if what's good to put in your body and what isn't! My dogs eat horse manure and stones!!
• I have mild MS and it's opened my eyes to this debate and the wider debate about fats and oils which I think is decently explained here: http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org/Recovery-Program/Role-of-Fats-in-MS/Trans-fatty-Acids-and-Other-Altered-Fats/ Here it says: As little as 5g a day of trans-fatty acids increases…
• Lots of people feel your pain. Being overweight affects you in so many ways. In a way, this rock bottom feeling is a good thing as a wake up call for you to take action. Don't ever forget how bad this is making you feel. But also, you need to take steps to change and work on losing the weight as well as steps to feel more…
• Hi, sorry to hear about your problems with fatigue. I experienced that crushing fatigue no matter how much you slept feeling 10 years ago when I first got ill, but I'm full of beans now! I follow the teachings of Prof. Jekinek: http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org Of course I can never say 100% that I'm so well…
• Well done on your weight loss so far. I feel your pain, after losing about 30 pounds I got stuck yo yoing between the same 7 pounds for about 6 months! My advice to you would be some simplistic points: 1. Keep calm! Trust the process. You've lost your mojo for a while but there is a tried and tested way to lost weight that…
• Of course I was just going to say do you mean the enzymatic pathway for converting dietary carbohydrate (CHO) into fat! That's good to know! That's quite low sugar Rainboot. The carbs you eat must be the decent type, well done!
• Wow 5-8% is low!! Yes I guess it gets easier over time once you start to explore new foods What is DNL?
• Thanks for the recommendation, will check that out. Yes I find reducing carbs means you cave them less. When I thought I was eating healthy with loads of fruit and fruit bars, wholemeal bread and pasta etc I felt I couldn't stop eating!
• Wow, what a difference, you look fab and you do look so much happier! Good work!
• Wow, 40 odd pounds is a lot, but is have thought that you'd lost even more, what a difference! Huge well done!
• I don't eat dairy generally and worry about consuming too much soya because you read different things about how healthy it is. So I have alomd milk instead of soya milk and I use nut butters (almond, cashew, peanut) in place of dairy spreads and to make sauces. There are alternatives.
• I'm the same. I've written endless timetables over the years featuring '6am, run,'. It maybe happened once or twice! Now I accept I'm not a morning person and exercise late at night (often go for a run at 10pm or 11pm when I feel most energetic and this helps me sleep, I'm a night owl!). Don't put pressure on yourself to…
• Maybe someone's said this above, but doesn't this stuff have added salt and sugar? I have 100% real peanut butter every day! love it, no salt, sugar or nasty palm oil. Just peanuts . Available in the uk. Totally healthy, in moderation. Twice as much good fats as bad fats and it has protein.…
• Thanks for the suggestions, I've never tried chia seeds never even seen them in my supermarket/health store but shall investigate! They are quite yum!
