I always say that, too! I think everyone should do something to burn calories that is FUN! Running on a treadmill for two hours a day isn't fun, but so many people start doing that on Jan 1st of every year. People need to find what works for them -- playing kickball, dancing with their kids, jumping on the trampoline, etc.…

Wow, that's such an amazing compliment. Thank you for being so kind. I'm glad you like it! :) I don't know if you guys have ever heard of DietBet, but I just set one up... http://www.dietbet.com/344Pounds -- it starts in about 6 days. It's a little fun competitive (but VERY supportive) way to lose weight. This is my first…

Wow, I was just contacted by CBS... they found me through my AOL link. I might be going out to film a show on February 8th! I will keep you guys posted!!!! :)

It DOES make you miserable! Like so many, I thought cutting out the "bad" food would help me get closer to my goals -- it only pushed my further away. When I said I couldn't eat something, I craved it even MORE! Only when I said, "Okay, I can have X, Y, Z food... just a little bit, though" was I successful... four years…

Wow, you made me go look... you're right, I was on the homepage of AOL. Amazing, THANK YOU! :)

The Huffington Post just published my weight loss story. SO exciting: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/07/i-lost-weight-shawn-tyler-weeks_n_2426021.html

It ABSOLUTELY can be done with "everyday" foods. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise! :)

We just built/bought a house last year... I had to wait to get a trampoline, as well. While I do go to the gym during the week, I love burning calories playing basketball in the driveway, jumping on the trampoline, dancing, and playing the Kinect... all with my daughter, of course.

Women can't bulk up... even guys lift weights for months/years and find it difficult to "bulk up." Bulking and building big muscles requires testosterone, something women lack. Lift, lift, lift girl!

Oh, hello! Thanks! :)

Thank you! The second we make food an "enemy," it starts to control us. It's as the old saying goes... those that control your thoughts control you. There's no denying people have food addictions, myself included, but to beat those addictions and to beat those bad food habits you have to try as hard as possible to just…

Sorry it's taking me so long to respond to things, I just learned how quote works... I'm getting used to the forum! I have those days, as well! I even have those weeks. I'm pretty good with moderation these days, but it's always good to know (unlike past attempts to lose weight) that I'm not on a diet... I'm not going to…

I'm all about being transparent and realizing that weight loss isn't a two, three, or four year journey -- it's a lifelong venture. There will be some days, weeks, and maybe even months where I sustain/gain/lose weight, but it'll all balance out at the end of the day. As long as I make sure to stay active, eat higher in…

I know. You and I are on the same page -- why wouldn't people want others to be more active? I don't care if it's an inconvenience to me and I have to wait on an elliptical... come to the gym and workout and change your life! You paid for your gym membership, too!

Since my starting weight was so high (344 pounds), I didn't hit a plateau for a while. I was consuming a tooooon of calories to stay at 344 pounds, so I was able to shed 100 pounds pretty quickly without much fight. You can see my week by week weight loss progress for the first year on my blog if you're interested. Once I…

@nicholegrey I'm glad you bought my book on Amazon -- thank you! It's really not a money making venture (priced at $3.44 and all), but I did it because it was hard to people to find my blog for the first time and get a real feel for my weight loss struggle and journey... the blog currently has 700+ posts and counting…

Thanks guys, so flattering! I'll have more time to reply later on tonight, but for the time being, I'll answer the shortest question -- I'm 6'1".

@mmahair - THANK YOU! :)

@kellyewhite Best Joey impression: How you doin'?

@Rockawaybulld: I have loose skin on my stomach. Nothing works to get rid of it -- creams, potions, whatever, all scams. I also had loose skin around my armpits (as does everyone who loses a lot of weight), but I've been able to add muscle in that area and eliminate most of that. Exhibit A:…

@craignev -- in fairness, it was just my starting weight... I probably went from 5,000+ calories a day to eating around 2,000. I wasn't starving myself by any means, but I was just getting a lot less calories than I was accustomed to getting and my body responded favorably to the rapid change in calories.

They motivate me, too! This is the time when a bunch of the New Year's Resolutioners stop going to the gym -- I'd love to see the gym PACKED all year round. I'd do anything to prevent people leaving.
-
Also, I'll be around most of the day to answer any questions!

Someone e-mailed me a link to this forum post... tell your brother he's free to e-mail me, shawn@344pounds.com. I'll answer any questions or provide any motivation to him I can.

I lost about 80 pounds until I reached a plateau. It all depends on your starting weight.
-
I'll be your friend. :)
-
It's not, but it's been well worth it. You just don't know until you actually achieve it.
-
You're why I joined, David. Seriously. It gets tough around 235, no doubt. I don't like to use the word plateau because so many people misunderstand it. You're not a plateau, your body just needs less calories every day. I know you're going to tell me you're already only eating 2,000 calories or so a day, but you really…

Glad to hear you've been following it.. let me know if you ever have any suggestions for future posts!

Heh, I know I didn't send THAT many people over to MFP, but it sure seems like I did... they at least all found this thread! I'm really happy to be here guys, and I plan on posting in the other topics to help folks lose weight.
