It's funny how we've pretty much lost the same amount of weight in roughly the same amount of time, isn't it? To date, I've logged just shy of 2,000,000 steps which represents a sharp increase in my average daily step count (15,766 steps) as my other device (the Withings Pulse, which I still use) has a fixed daily goal of…

Hi Jaymc66, I'll send you an invite to connect on MFP and GC.

Actually, Mio Global will release a new Activity Tracker called the Fuse (if they have not already) with an integrated optical HRM for those with a Sports-Oriented, Active Lifestyle.

If you like the motivation you get from the FitBit, you'll love the motivation you get wearing the Garmin Vivofit. Garmin Connect engages you with Step Challenges where you compete against others to successfully complete the Step Challenge, win a Challenge in competition amongth several peers, and earn a badge or two along…

USEFUL TIP: Visit Wal-Mart Vision Center. I bought a pair of Biker wraparound glasses with polarized Zeiss safety lenses according to my prescription. Total cost was $105 plus tax. That was such a good deal, I went back to Wal-Mart for a second pair and bought that same frame but added clear anti-glare coated safety lenses…

You can order DZR shoes from the factory in San Francisco. The DZR White cycling sneakers look like a real winner. That is way too funny! White(!) Cycling shoes, really? And they're only $95. I couldn't believe it. A white cycling shoe! I'd love to ask their product manager where DZR came up with that offering. Do those…

I was never too fond of using my belly button as a lint repository, and the wrinkly butt thing just wasn't working for me. My wife didn't accept the excuse, "Well, I'm getting older now." I'm glad she didn't.

The Garmin Connect side of the marriage to MFP seems to be lagging somewhat behind the intended integration with MFP. But the Garmin guys are really busy with multiple implementation projects that are taxing their internal resources for software development, troubleshooting, and support. Garmin will get there eventually.…

I had the same goal this past year. I wanted a bike that could take me all the way backcountry on multi-day trips far away from the recreational riders and casual campers. I considered a Salsa Fargo and a Surly ECR. The Fargo has a cult-like following for bikepacking. It is a 29er with drop bars, 2.3 inch tires, a…

I have a Polar H7 ($79)that I use with the Digifit iCardio App ($7). I also have a Garmin ($60 or so) that I sometimes use with the Garmin Vivofit and Garmin Edge Touring. I'm considering a Mio Link to replace both my Polar H7 and my Garmin HRM as the Mio Link ($99) is compatible with both my Bluetooth Smart and Ant+…

Ummm.... you have a body image issue? Are you serious? Your fiance doesn't have a problem with your body or your looks because you are simply.... ahem.... stunning, and a little bit nuts, too. Your photographs are beautiful. Just eat reasonably well and make time for exercise several days each week to maintain your overall…

I eat breakfast, walk during lunch, and then eat dinner.... everyday. The only difference I've noticed is that I often get a little lethargic following a healthy dinner and then need to push myself to exercise at night. But that might just be me.

692ecs, it's always a pleasure to share my experiences and insights with anyone who is interested to know. ;-)

I've been in Step challenges for a couple of months now. I got bumped up each week, except at the 100k Challenge level, which I remained in for two successive weeks. This was followed by one week in the 125k Challenge and two weeks in the 150k Challenge. Then during the 150k Challenge, I injured my right instep with a…

I use both a Withings Pulse and the Garmin Vivofit (with HRM). I also use a Polar H7 Bluetooth Smart HRM with DigiFit iCardio on my iPod Touch. The Withings Pulse tracks my general health markers and it also tracks changes in elevation; the Pulse is really accurate and reliable, too. The Garmin Vivofit is waterproof so I…

I was never much of a fan of sugar in my coffee. I like vanilla-flavored Almond milk and Cinnamon in my coffee. This combination is just really tasty. I even prefer it more than half & half or whole milk in my coffee. I drink two 12-ounce cups every morning. It's a great starter for the day.

I started out with a Withings Pulse, which I still wear on my pocket. I lost my first Pulse and bought another. The Pulse is rugged, accurate, and it gives lotsa' data for you to absorb and act on. The Pulse O2 (retail $120) is the same except it comes with a wrist band as well as a clip so you can wear it where ever you…

I agree. The Serfas RX (mens) saddle is sweet, and it's reasonably priced too. All three of my bikes have Serfas saddles now. And I had some really pricey saddles before I changed out to Serfas. Awesome saddles. Awesome value.

Download the Runtastic Pump-It Apps (sit-ups, squats, push-ups, and pull-ups) and use them anywhere, anytime, no matter how busy your life is. These Apps sync with MFP and they produce great results through body weight training. They're great and I always recommend them to everyone who asks. Available free for iOs,…

The Runtastic Pump-It Apps can be used anywhere: at home, at a playground, with a stairwell, etc. They're simple to use, don't require much of your time, and lotsa' fun to use. Your imagination makes them even better. You'll appreciate the results, too. Enjoy.

I recommend you try the Runtastic Pump-It Apps available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone platforms. There are four Apps: Sit-ups, Squats, Push-Ups, and Pull-Ups. All use the phone's accelerometer or touch screen to count your reps. These are truly excellent Apps for a basic bodyweight training program, all four Apps…

Ummmm, NO! Your Polar FT7 with HRM strap automatically pairs with your gym equipment and transmits its heart rate data to the machine you're using (and sometimes to the adjacent machine someone else is using - lol). The reason the machine display doesn't exactly match the readout of your FT7 is due to the machine display's…

Try supplementing your normal diet with OTC magnesium tablets twice a day per the usage recommendation on the bottle. From my own experience, I guarantee that your issue will be resolved in just a day or two. By the way, calcium is the opposite side of the same coin. Taking a regular dose of calcium will cause constipation.

I do this more or less. But I use the Withings Pulse (in conjunction with the Withings blood pressure monitor, and Withings Smart Body Analyzer scale) instead of a Fitbit. I have the Polar FT7 wrist band watch which I pair with the Polar H7 BlueTooth Smart HRM strap so I can monitor my heart rate simultaneously on the FT7…

I looked at the Fitbit line and their Web App. I was kinda' turned off because Fitbit forces you to sync with your computer or smartphone to know exactly where you're at during the course of the day. So, I chose the Withings Pulse. I was so impressed by the Pulse and their Health Mate Web App and Health Mate iOS App, I…

I was very saddened after reading your post. Wilderness activities like hiking and mountain biking really dictate practicing the buddy system, where everyone is paired up with a partner and both have a working familiarity with emergency first aid and wilderness injury treatment practices. Nobody should ever be left…

This! Most people don't realize that many of the calorie burns an HRM calculation yields may have otherwise been burned regardless of how strenuous a particular activity is stated to be. If you didn't break into a heavy sweat during that exercise, it wasn't a high-energy cardio excercise that burned up fat calories. So…

Your body reacts to environmental conditions such as temperature and pressure. It can expand and contract based upon recent ambient conditions and on a daily basis, water retention versus muscle preload at particular times of each day. While consistency is good practice, some variation will occur under normal conditions…

I lost my first 35 pounds by walking and a reduced dietary intake. Although now I am very active at the gym and with Yoga, I still shoot for at least 10,000 steps a day. I use the striiv Smart Pedometer which is a great motivator to keep moving. If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, you can download the striiv pedometer…

Yes, it's doable and I did it in 12 months. I used a number of supplements, eliminated all carbs other than fresh fruit and veggies, increased protein, and added good fats to my diet. Then I gave up TV, went all out with exercise and dropped 60 pounds. It's challenging but rewarding in many unexpected ways. Questions? Just…
