  • Yup, it's easy to pack along and very reflective. At less than $4 each from Bike Wrappers, I bought two of them. No buyer's remorse at all. I also bought their reflective Arm Warmers for colder weather.
  • I'm good to 15 or 20 degrees F on a bike depending upon wind chill. Below that range, I'm likely beatin' feet. But, we rarely see temps fall that low on Long Island; only a handful of days each Winter. And I really enjoy snowshoeing, so it's pretty much all good to me.
  • For me, Indoors is always Out of the Question. Same thing with TV monitors cuz that's how I got fat and sickly in the first place. If I ever waiver, I reference Velominati Rule #5 engraved on my RoadID and I'm not even half as fit as you are, ntnunk. But I ain't ever going back to the couch, the exercycle, or the trainer…
  • @sweetteadrinker2 I searched for pics and consumer reviews of the Schwinn Mirada. There were quite a number of consumer complaints from ladies regarding the stock saddle delivered with this hybrid bike. But otherwise, the reviews were generally positive. It's not usually the norm for one to get fitted for a big box hybrid…
  • It's been said before by others, so I'll just parrot it here: There is no such thing as poor weather, only poor preparation. Dressed appropriately, it's all good!
  • @Slainte831 I had the same issue first off-road, and then again on-road while riding my new drop bar Roadie. Yoga cured the issues both times. Planks were particularly effective for me in quickly improving both core and shoulder strength. Best part is I lost a lot of inches around my waist quickly too! Give 'em both a try.
  • I take Dandelion (root and leaf), Stinging Nettle Root, Stinging Nettle Leaf, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin C (1000 mg) to help absorb the Vitamin B12. In addition, I make a point of substituting raw Spinach for [iceberg] lettuce in sandwiches and salads with every opportunity. I had also experienced great results applying…
  • This one is pretty new. Added a bunch of stuff to my 2015 Trek Domane 5.2 roadie. Items added are pretty much the same mods as those added to my Salsa Ti X0. But here, I went with red bar tape, Shimano A600 SPD pedals, Bontrager 300 computer, and Bontrager Ion 700 front light. Loving this bike, too!
  • I added Bike Wrappers to my bikes too. And I also began wearing this reflective band on my evening walks and rides. That and my RoadID are now both mandatory kit for me.
  • To fight infection, start taking dandelion root supplements. I haven't been sick or gotten an infection of any kind in years since I began taking Solaray Dandelion. Same experience with Dandelion for my wife. Try 3-4 capsules twice a day for a couple months. It's awesome stuff! Tea from Stinging Nettle leaves relieves…
  • A few new personal touches to my Salsa Vaya Ti X0 shown here. Elite Pria Pave bottle cages, BM Works Tool Stash in the rear cage, BikeWrappers on the frame, a couple of rear lights (Bontrager rechargeable and PDW Radbot), Bushwhacker Reno bar bag, and Avenir Big Mouth saddle bag under a Serfas Rx Race Ready saddle. I'm…
  • Perhaps you don't need to work out unless you find that you truly enjoy it. But what you definitely need to do is change your Sedentary lifestyle to an Active lifestyle. For instance, I started riding my bike or walking to complete local errands (within a couple or so miles from home). I walked up stairwells instead of…
  • The Scosche Rythm+ retails for USD $79.99 and here is a detailed review of this HRM. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/05/scosche-antbluetooth-optical.html
  • I'm not a fan of workout videos. I use the Runtastic Pump-It Apps on my iPod Touch for body weight strength training. The Pump-It Apps include Sit-ups, Squats, Pushups and Pull-Ups. I also use a Step Deck which provides an awesome cardio workout well beyond just walking. I also ride my bike several times a week and attend…
  • You're welcome! The App seems to work pretty well on my iPod Touch.
  • I have a Polar H7 BLE HRM, a Garmin hard strap HRM for my Edge Touring, and the Scosche Rythm+ dual BLE / ANT+ HRM. I'm not a fan of chest straps, so the Scosche Rythm+ worn on my forearm or on my bicep under my jersey sleeve is my favorite HRM solution of the three. I can't say enough positive things about the Scosche…
  • Hey, I'm Mike from Long Island, NY. I had a Raleigh Grand Prix with a Brooks saddle when I was a young teen. I grew into an old school MTB that I rode a bit when I lived in Florida. That MTB was later stolen from my shed on Long Island about 8 years ago. So I allowed career and family to dominate my days. I gained a lot of…

  • If you're just looking to ride rather than race, so many of my buds have raved about Kenda Small Block Eight tires for rail to trail use, I figured I'd give them a mention. Used on touring and adventure bikes, they are designed for hard pack dirt paths, gravel, and fireroads, so deep sticky mud is a definite disqualifier.…
  • @HillOE that's an interesting tip regarding AAA, especially for those who do long distance riding and touring. Thanks!
  • @jacksonpt I've always worn a Serfas Helmet rear beacon light on my helmet. I actually own three of them. But I just received my new Torch T2 illuminated helmet with front and rear LED arrays. I wear it for the first time this weekend, so I'll post a pic or two in this thread this weekend.
  • I add Spectrum ground organic Flax Seed to my oatmeal, to soups, and on top of salads as well as steamed veggies. I feel ground Flax Seed played the primary role in reducing my total cholesterol from over 200 mg/dL to below 145 mg/dL in a year's time. The frequency of my blood tests is every six months, so I have three…
  • @m1xm0d3 which saddle did you end up with? Are you loving it or is it too soon to say?
  • @Slainte831 Thank you!
  • @gooseonabike I know! I already asked my LBS to look into pre-ordering one for me.... Just one week after picking up my Vaya Ti. I'm so bad!
  • Yeah.... mikey likey, too.... alot! This is the Vaya Ti X0 with Surly Knard 41 rubber. With Titanium frame, it weighs in at just shy of 22 pounds as shown in a 54 cm frame with pedals, bar end mirror, and Serfas Rx Race Ready saddle. The bag was not mounted when the bike was weighed. I had my LBS change out the black bar…
  • And here is my new addition.
  • Since my last recorded weigh-in on my Withings scale, 7.7 pounds to go to reach 200. But the scale at my Doctor's office showed me weighing in at 208. Close, but still four or more weeks away from exiting the Obese range (which is above 199 pounds for me) on the BMI scale. After that, I'm on my weigh (pun intended) to 180…
  • Previously, I had invested a fair sum of money in saddles until I found the right type for me. Since then, no follow on issues. I'd assume you have a large frame, and I'd bet a few bucks you would benefit from a wider saddle. If you're open to laying out $70 or $80, please try the Serfas RX Performance and the Serfas RX…
  • What did ya' use to bikepack, Revelate Designs gear? I run with a Revelate Designs Pika under my MTB saddle that I think very highly of. It can carry a lot of gear.

  • @MostlyWater I read your profile with lotsa' interest, and it seems possible you are unintentionally projecting an unapproachable persona at the gym. You do seem like you'd be a great workout partner who can offer up a lot of fun stories and entertaining quips while achieving your goals and helping others stay on target to…
