  • Walking is typically done on a flat surface like a sidewalk, track, or a street. Hiking is done over different terrains.
  • Husband and I both take fish oil (it helps with joints and we both lift so it seems to help with recovery) and B 12 for an energy boost.
  • Sometimes you just have to do it. That first step is the hardest you will ever take. Personally I like seeing teens in the gym. I like seeing people take charge of their health and fitness. I have a 16 year old son and a 13 year old daughter and they have both been going to the gym for years with me and thier dad. My son…
  • Dry shampoo in between washes works great for me. Sexy Hair H2No is my favorite.
  • Oh yes. I canned zuke dill and bread and butter pickles (spears, slices, and I did a relish too). You use pickling lime to make veggies crisp. Mrs. Wages has a great version of it. Here's a little information about it. Think Vlasic pickles ... that's how they turn out. ********************************************* Pickling…
  • Being a heavier weight doesn't necessarily make you appear older. Being unhealthy is more likely to do that in my opinion. It could be also that maybe you just had a bad day when they said you appeared older (ie not enough sleep and just generally disgruntled can give you an unhappy scowl that can make you appear less…
  • Try making pickles with zucchini instead of cucumbers. I did that a couple years ago when my zucchini plants went crazy and would not stop producing. They turned our much better than expected. I like them better than cucumbers because there's more flesh and less seeds. OP ... avid gardener and canner here. Once thing that…
  • I have terrible cramps with back pain that puts me in what I refer to as the "batcave" (a dark cool bedroom away from everyone). If I can muster up the motivation, going to the gym and working out reduces the pain tremendously for several hours. It's always really hard to get going but I feel so much better afterwards.
  • Why cut it out? Pizza hut personal pan pizza, light cheese, crushed tomato pizza sauce, and grilled chicken. Each slice is 130 calories, that 520 calories for the entire thing. Check out Pizza Hut's nutritional calculator and play around with the toppings you like. You might be surprised what you can fit into your plan.…
  • I've had exposure to two completely different regions. I'm born and raised in the south and 5 years ago moved to the Midwest. The South - Food is love and family. Food is a reason for people to gather. There's no low fat, low sugar, low calorie option when it comes to Southern food and that is the very reason why it tastes…
  • Back to the OP discussion on the canned chicken (I read about halfway through the entire thread and then skipped to the end). I'm an advocate for canned meat. Surprised??? I'm an advocate NOT for commercially canned meats but for home canned meats (sealed in mason jars using a pressure canner). You control everything you…
  • I have 3 machines that I use for cardio: elliptical, stairmaster, and the jacobs ladder. There are different leves of intensity with each. The elliptical I use as a warm up usually and occasionally I'll do a longer cardio program if I'm having a non motivated day. The stairmaster is my go to for cardio and to get a really…
  • Exercise helps me tremendously during my ToM. The worse I feel the harder I push myself. I do that to sweat out all my bloating and water retention. I do not cramp at all (that I have noticed) while working out and they don't come back for hours. I've noticed too that my ToM is easier/lighter/tolerable with my weight loss.
  • Southern IL here :)
  • Why resist KFC? Have you looked at the nutritional information they provide? If I don't see it posted I ask for a copy of it. KFC Kentucky Grilled Chicken Breast 1 piece is 180 calories KFC Green Beans 1 side is 25 calories KFC Mashed Potatoes (no gravy) 1 side is 90 calories Total meal calories is 295 Yay for healthier…
  • Smaller plates to seem to make a big difference. I use a larger plate for my husband (he's a bodybuilder type weightgainer) and son. I then use a smaller plate for me and our daughter. It's perfect as someone stated before for a single serving of meat and 2 veggies/sides.
  • Your BMI with the stats you have listed is between 18.74 and 19.75. Anything under 18.5 is considered underweight. You may want to considered bulking up a little to increase your muscle mass for more defined muscle tone.

  • I did a little research. LOL, I'm a total nerd like that. Measurement World Health Organisation's protocol 2.5 Summary and conclusions Waist circumference should be measured at the midpoint between the lower margin of the least palpable rib and the top of the iliac crest (my personal edit -- the iliac crest is the top of…
  • I am a woman with a high waist. I just went and checked my navel is straight in line with the top of my hips so if I measure at my navel I'm measuring hips too. My "curve" (natural waist) is right in line with between my navel and ribs though. There are so many different shapes of women that don't fit into typical…
  • I think the #effyourbeautystandards is an excellent campaign to shake up the fashion industry who portrays unattainable expectations through photoshop and models with an unhealthy (too low) BMI. I also understand that on the other end of the spectrum "fat acceptance" is just as bad, attempting to force people to accept it…
  • 20 minutes upper body weights (easy workout since I do heavy lifting on the weekdays) and 40 minutes PIYO. :)
  • DuQuoin here too :D
  • Just got my jawbone. I'm very active. I walk with my mom in the mornings (helps keep her motivated), weightlifting, and lots of classes (HIIT, Zumba, body pump, PIYO). Add me, I'm sending a few request too. Please send a friend request here too if you add me. :D April Sawyer sawyeram@yahoo.com
  • "Great new video which shows REAL women training!" changed to "Great new video which shows the stereotypical type of "real" women who are not in the greatest shape but are trying really hard and may only be just beginning and not the stereotypical fitness model who is also a "real" woman but that a lot of people think…
  • Hmmmm, everyone's body is different and each person holds their weight different. Try checking out mybodygallery.com. You can see other women with the same height, age, and weight as you.
  • Only on special occasions. Typically, I wear sneakers or flip flops. I'm also barefoot often.
  • I'm 5'4 with a 30 inch waist as well ... but I'm at 156 lbs and 26% body fat. The range the dietician gave you (117-125) is the low range of the BMI health scale. Sounds like she was telling you that you could go DOWN to that weight and still be considered in a "healthy" BMI range. If you still feel like you need to loose…
  • I have 15 inch calves and I'm 5'4. I attribute that to an inclined ellipitical, stairmaster, Jacobs ladder (modern torture), zumba, and being a cheerleader as a teenager. We had to work out our legs a lot and it helped to build a base for my muscles (that's why I refer to my legs as "cheerleader legs"). I can only wear…
