My spare bedroom; has a treadmill and elliptical plus bench, weights, pull up bar and heavy bag. My workplace gym, (free) has treadmills, bikes, step machine, crosstrainer, weights machines and freeweight (I use it at 10am so it is always empty)

I don't think so, I worked out on Christmas Day last year before headed over to the family dinner and will do the same this year. So long as you working out doesn't inconvenience anyone; it shouldn't be an issue.

I lift 5 days a week; 4 days Mon-Thur on focused muscle grouping and 1 day Sat a full body compound lift focused workout. I also run 3 days a week most weeks However, initially i started out doing Stronglifts 5x5 3 times a week. This, Stronglifts 5x5, or Starting Strength might be a good starting place.

I agree, if you want to run faster you need to run faster. I started doing more short runs where I went flat out for increased speed; sometimes literally just doing timed mile runs, but doing it in 7.5 minutes or 8.5 minutes - now an 8.5 minute mile is my comfortable speed and I run easily at the pace over distance.
