  • Check out the ankles!! They look like they're going to snap any second.
  • "I Heart Radio" is good as well. I'm an AM talk show junkie and listen to my morning talk show guys while running ;)
  • I actually still have my Burley trailer from when my kids were little. It holds about 6 filled grocery bags! It would fit a pretty big cooler no problem, but I don't know if I would want to pull something that heavy. lol! A benefit of the trailer is the cars really go wide when they think you are pulling a baby.
  • I do both. I burn the same amt of calories in 2 hours of cycling as 1 hour of running. Cycling is more strength training and less cardio for me. When I'm running, my hr is up the entire time. When I'm on my bike, I push hard, but there's always downhills and slowdowns that lower the heart rate way down. It only really gets…
  • Why? Doctors recommend it too. I'm assuming you are saying this because of the whole "dryness" factor and the chance of tearing while removing a dry trampon?? One can always use a little KY to lube up the tampon before inserting. It's not in there that long, just for the run.
  • Gaahhh, I only got 68 in May! I'm on the quest to run 1000 miles this year and I'm 47 behind the pace bunny already. Gotta pick it up.
  • I see a lot of people at races wearing compression socks...however, they could be these too. I've always wanted to try them. I don't have shin splints, but I hear great things about the socks in general.

  • Make your own! I cringe when I see the prices of granola in the stores when I know I can make it for pennies and it tastes soooo much better! I toss the oats with nuts, unsweetened coconut and wheat germ with a little honey and *real* maple syrup and toast in the oven on low for an hour or so. You can adjust and doctor it…
  • I have the same thing almost every single morning and I never ever get tired of it. 1 light Thomas' English Muffin - 100 calories 1 laughing cow cheese wedge (preferably french onion) - 35 calories 1 hard boiled egg - 65 calories total - 200 calories toast muffin, cut cheese in half and spread on each half of muffin. Cut…
  • EXCELLENT POST! Thank you!!!
  • This is the BEST BEST recipe for Butternut! I make it all the time! Butternut is pretty high in calories, so watch what you eat. This stuff is addictive! I also just like to roast butternut on a sheet pan in the oven. Feta cheese, sage and butternut are meant for eachother. Butternut risotto is awesome too, but time…
  • LOL!! Boy there are soooo many excuses out there why you shouldn't run, that's gotta be one of my favorites! I will keep running till I can't run anymore! And it will be because I'm dead, not because I have bad knees, hips or feet.
  • I'm going to copy and paste my advice from another post. Just an FYI....not all heart rate monitors are calorie burn heart rate monitors. I have the Garmin 305, and it's not accurate for calories burned. It's only a HRM for training purposes. It was $300 when I first got it too! For example: I ran a half marathon with an…

  • Just an FYI....not all heart rate monitors are calorie burn heart rate monitors. I have the Garmin 305 as well, and it's not accurate for calories burned. It's only a HRM for training purposes. For example: I ran a half marathon with an average hr of 170 in 2 hr 15 mins. A week later I rode my bike 25 miles, average hr of…
  • OMG...I made this the other night and it was unbelievably awesome!! Do NOT skip grilling the green onions! The flavor is great! Bobby Flay's Grilled Sweet Potato and Scallion Salad Ingredients 4 large sweet potatoes, par-cooked and cut into 1/2-inch slices 8 scallions 3/4 cup(s) olive oil 2 tablespoon(s) Dijon mustard 1/2…
  • LOVE my Garmin! I have the 305, dh has the 205. Can't run without it. Don't expect the HRM to give you accurate calories burned however. It's only a heart rate training tool, not for calculating calories. My watch band broke within a few months and I bought the velcro strap....it's awesome!
  • Have you ever checked out Jamie Olivers Food Revolution? It's sickening what our kids are fed in schools. However, I have seen some kids come to school with much worse in their own lunches...so that's not much better. My kids get "hot lunch" about once a month as a treat.

  • I've run into that problem a lot! I will usually re-arrange my schedule to have the race fall on a cut back week. But since you didn't do that, you might want to do a 7 miler on Saturday and then the 4 on Sunday. Or do your 11 miler on Friday if you can swing it.
  • Just want to say: I'm so excited for the Amgen Tour of California!! I'm taking my kids out of school on Monday and going to the finish in Sac. My oldest just brought home a permission slip from school today so the kids can all go out and watch them fly by on Tuesday. The race goes right in front of their school. So lucky…
  • Yep, locks are awesome! I've played a lot of other classes and this is the only one I've stuck with to the end. I haven't played her in the battlegrounds yet. My 85 DK son says he loves killing locks, so I doubt I'll join in that massacre.
  • 84 Warlock here! Soooo close so close!
  • We usually only get to camp once or twice a year. It's a time for chips, beer, hot dogs, etc!! It's the only time of year my kids get Poptarts. LOL! It's one of those weekends I write off. We also do a ton of exercise though. I always get in my morning run and usually a great hike in the afternoon. Forget the diet and…
  • Skip all the others and go with www.runningahead.com It's the best by far!!
  • I'll join in!! I'm still on the fence if I'm going to run another marathon this year. Ran my first last December and it was the hardest thing I've ever done! I was suffering ITBS really bad at the time and was crying by mile 20! I ran my 4th half marathon a few weeks ago and the ITBS stayed away! I'll probably train up for…
  • My CW is 150 and my GW is 135. I've been at this for a few months now and have lost 5 lbs. I have my calories set at 1200 and always eat my exercise calories back. It's coming off slow, but it's coming off.
  • Hey Jeff! I ran in VFF's pretty much all last year and a few months of the year before. I ran a handful 5k's and 2 half marathons in them. I was training for my full in my VFF's when I developed ITBS really bad and had to switch back to a more cushioned shoe for my long runs. I've had a hard time transitioning back to my…
  • I have a pair of Bikilas, 2 pair of KSO's, and a Sprint. Love the Sprints for summertime yardwork, going to the beach, just walking around. I run in the Bikilas. KSO's I don't wear that much anymore. You have to take time to build up the muscles in your feet before you can do any distance with running or you risk injury.
  • I'm a total coffee snob. If you get freshly roasted beans (within 2 weeks), and grind just enough for what you need just before making it, avoid using a drip machine (use an Aero press, french press, real espresso machine or Melitta pour over), you really shouldn't ever need to sweeten your coffee. People usually put sugar…
