  • I find it helps to buy things for kids that they will eat but I don't like. For instance types of biscuits or whatever your problem food is. Making healthy choices will rub off on the kids, they will follow your lead as well.
  • Use lettuce instead of taco shells. You still get the crunch. Worst tip I tried was to rinse mince under hot water when cooked to reduce fat. It washed away the flavour and was terrible. I cant see anything wrong with trying to reduce fat from sausages and hamburgers, some are disgustingly high in fat.
  • Your motivation must come from yourself- for most of us a switch goes on and we do not want to continue the way we are. However motivation only goes so far. Given your age, this is an excellent time to establish good habits for a lifetime, not just to prom time. For instance, exercise every day, dont drink soda, get your…
  • cauliflower works well as a soup base, just steam/boil and puree. Then add stock or milk and meat for flavour. I like adding lamb leftovers from a roast. It does need a bit of salt, and a sprinkle of cheese on top also does wonders. in a slow cooker a tin of tomatoes, stock, and meat to slow cook such as gravy beef with…
  • I expect there are lots of people that lose weight and/or maintain without counting calories. They are just not on a site primarily for calorie counting. However, if you are already big, then counting calories gives you an idea of portion control, and the foods that are higher or lower in calories. Sometimes this is not…
  • 2 cups wholemeal SR flour 0.5 cups sugar 1 egg 0.25 cups oil 1 cup orange juice pinch salt add wet to dry ingredients, bake 180C for 20 mins. you could play around with this recipe. If you replace the oil with apple puree its very low fat and about 120 cals for a 12 muffin batch. This is a basic mixture that you add…

  • try it on fruit toast with strawberries, blueberries and cinnamon. Also works for cottage cheese.
  • Hi Megan Please try and get a doctor to come and see you. Work with them to manage your diet first and then think about exercise. Do you have friends/relatives or carers that can help? Talk to real people not just the internet, although I am sure you will get support here. Work on any issues you have that have led to your…
  • Fall down seven times...get up eight. Conan
  • I am sorry you feel so bad about things. I have found that it is easy to get into a down spiral, but on the upside, just doing one good thing helps make the next one easier. For instance you say it puffs you out to walk for a minute? Well its good you are making that effort. Do it again and again and it will get easier.…
  • Not sure if they have them wherever you are, but the tony ferguson shakes are not bad. Not that low carb, but drinkable, unlike a lot of the higher protein ones that don't mix well and taste disgusting. They do a tetra pack of them as well. I haven't tried a protein bar yet that didn't taste like someone had already…
  • I went on a course ages ago in a not nice end of town and stayed in multistory student accommodation. it rained the whole time as well. I ended up doing laps of the balconies and up and down stairs each night, walking at lunchtime etc. I can't remember if I lost weight but at least I felt like I was doing something. Even…
  • I lost 23kg on tony ferguson shakes (australian brand) and while I gag at the thought of them now, they gave me a good chance to remove sugar and too many carbs from my diet which has helped me maintain and continue to lose on normal food. I only found one brand drinkable so you may need to test a few. Having a weekly…
  • This is the programme I copied from the C25K site which I was thinking of for next years training. Personally I would give myself a rest before any race, and build in some stretches and weights as well. Week 1 Long Run 6km + 2 X 5km Week 2 Long Run 6.5km + 2 X 5km Week 3 Long Run 7.0km + 2 X 5km Week 4 Long Run 7.5km + 2 X…
  • I have about 3-4kg to get to my target as well, and each kilo for ages has been a battle. I tend to lose less than a kg a month, and nothing for the last two months. I think you can be a bit demotivated, but what's the alternative? Give up and pork up? Not for me, I have changed all my habits and routines. So far each…
  • I have had success with going cold turkey on these sorts of things. I used to get thru a lot of biscuits given the chance, and I did low carb for a while, and cut out all sugars except for fruit. While it took 3 months to even contemplate coffee without sugar, I can say now that a lot of things are way too sweet and I just…
  • In fact, don't even be human! I think motivation is over rated. Get into good habits and weight loss will take care of itself. In the meantime, do something useful like declutter, clean something in a frenzy, go mad with some exercise. In a year from now you will wish you had started today.
  • soak the breadcrumbs and onion in the milk until squishy, then mix in. May need more milk.
  • I find it easier to buy things the kids like and I don't, so then I am not as tempted and they still get some treats. Or buy single serve packets. Remember also that kids don't pay attention to what you say, but watch what you do. They may be more aware of your habits than you think.
  • I heard the expression 'A year from now you will wish you had started today.' You know what? A year ago I started C25K, and I will be doing a 6km fun run next week.
  • chopped with cottage cheese and some cinnamon in muesli a date spread (date and spices) on fruit toast with banana date scones utter yumbos date and walnut and honey loaf
  • I just recently got a new bike, and haven't been on one for 20 years so I have been going pretty slow trying out balance etc. I have lost nearly 30kg, and have been running for 6 months, but my mindset was still back 20 years ago, so I thought I might have to get off to push up a small hill. But I forced myself to go hard…
  • One aspect of not eating junk food/sugar etc for some time is that you lose the taste for it. This then helps long term for cravings etc. So a cheat day then readjusts your tastes to the junk, and you never quite lose the cravings. So going cold turkey on unhealthy foods is easier in the long run, or at least in my…
  • I think you just have a total mindset change and you never go back to it. Eat healthy, smaller portions, exercise more, and move more. After a while your tastes change and you don't miss the foods or if you do have something it is not the treat it used to be. Don't think of it as a diet and stop, it is for life. I lost…
  • Having dyslexia, serious dyslexia, I read that as "sperm bath". How would you get the tub full??? Now THAT'S a way to lose some serious weight! Really, everyone has a different trigger to start on a weight loss journey, it is not all plain sailing, not the beginning, not the plateaus and not the maintaining. Its all fairly…
  • Best: coconut or licorice or honey macadamia Worst: smurf flavour. It is bright blue and my kids love it. I told them it was made from mashed smurfs, and they still think its the best ever and you get a bonus blue tongue as well. The bubble gum toxic waste flavour also looks and smells disgusting.
  • try and make your cravings part of your meals- if you want toast or something then have it for lunch instead of an extra. It might make everything bit unbalanced but it works to avoid a binge. Well, most of the time.
  • I have found this area has tightened up and slimmed down a lot since I started running. Sure I have lost a bit overall, but this area seems to benefit from the arm movement of even slow jogging. It did take a couple of months to show, but I don't do any weights so it must be from the running alone.
  • instant miso soup looks and tastes like whale vomit.
  • Mine love nachos, and I put a heap of vegetables in a tomato mince sauce, and then put little piles of tomato, avocado, grated carrot, grated cheese and lettuce with a couple of taco shells or some corn chips (plain ones) and they put it together themselves. Adults can skip the corm chips and use lettuce as the wrap which…
