I've already been through this. Removing grains was the *only* thing I changed. If I eat anything with gluten in, e.g. wheat, rye, then the problems come back within half an hour. The gluten doesn't cause me to fall asleep - the ridiculously high GI index that grains have does. I used to struggle to stay awake after…

Well, for me the removal of gluten was the *only* thing that changed before and after. I put up with my symptoms for more than 6 months and they vanished within 3 days of eliminating gluten. If I eat gluten now, they come back. In fact, if I eat gluten now I get an upset stomach and a rash within half an hour. That's not a…

I know you didn't TempehForever. Please don't feel like I'm picking on you because I'm really not! Some of the comments (like the one by AlisonLynn for example) make it clear that they think everyone following a gluten-free diet is just following a fad. It doesn't matter that I just described all the symptoms I've been…

This is part of the problem: you believe it's a health trend and people are effectively doing it for no good reason. How about some people aren't allergic to wheat, gluten or grains but experience benefits that make them believe in this lifestyle? If you haven't tried it yourself, maybe you just can't understand their…

My body is the same too - I eat a low carb high fat diet. Before when I was eating the recommended amounts of macros, i.e. mostly carbs with about 20% fat and 20% protein or thereabouts, I wasn't losing *any* weight despite lifting weights, doing HIIT and eating non-processed 'clean' foods. If it works for you, why not go…

Me too! I've been eating palaeo for a few months for health reasons and I feel fantastic. I've lost 13lb 'by accident.' I also don't understand why people don't like the lifestyle but can only assume that part of it is due to preconceptions of it. I've tried a few different ways of eating and palaeo makes me happy. After…

I've found the best way to lose fat has been to tweak my macros. I eat a gluten-free low carb high fat and have lost 13lb and about 3% body fat in 8 weeks (I'm 5'5" and weigh 130lb). I've gained muscle in that time. Before that I was maintaining a calorie deficit at about 70% carbs, working out with weights and HIIT and…

I totally agree! I like their workouts but I bought the Ultimate Reset and realised afterwards how stupid I was for doing so. I lost 8lb but I spent more than US$200 on the programme and all I got was a box full of 'supplements' that I could have got from Walmart, a recipe book, a bracelet and a DVD. Totally not worth the…

I bought a Garmin 405CX. It's a running GPS watch that I chose because I run. It had the HR band included. I picked it because unlike other watches that calculate calories burned from the time taken to travel a certain distance, this one relies on the HR information so it works for indoor aerobics too (just turn the GPS…

It depends on how strong you are to start with but in general you'll need a range of weights rather than just one. 20lb per arm will be OK for some exercises but for smaller muscle groups, e.g. triceps, it'll be too heavy.

Thanks for all the additional advice. I realise my BMI and body fat % puts me at being healthy but I'd rather be at the lower end of healthy than towards the higher end. I'm already doing resistance work 2-3 x a week with weights. In addition pole fitness is a lot of body weight resistance work and I do that for about an…

Well done! Feel proud because that's an accomplishment. :)

I love cheat days! It's not practical for me personally to say, 'I'm never going to eat chocolate ever again.' I guess it depends on how extreme you take the cheat day. I don't see it as an excuse to gorge myself on junk. If anything, I prefer to think of it as my treat meal. It's one meal of the week where I eat what I…

I used to take loads of breaks. The first fitness test I could only manage half because I spent the rest of it lying on my bedroom floor trying not to throw up. For the actual workouts I could do about 20 minutes (struggling) and then I'd crash and burn so I was taking breaks more than I was working out (I didn't count…

Thanks Tavistock Toad, I'll try the 1700 net!

You could restart week 3 or just continue where you left off. One week won't be enough to lose your fitness. That being said, take it a bit easier the first few days. You might be a bit weaker as a result of your illness. No point in overdoing it immediately!

Just a suggestion but perhaps it's a region thing? I've never had problems with my P90X or Insanity DVDs but my Les Mills Pump DVDs came up as being a totally different region. They wouldn't play and instead I had green, black, pink and grey squares on the screen. Do you think that might be the issue? If they play in the…

I eat 1700.

I have a physical job. I work 12 hours a day EVERY day (yes, including weekends) for a whole month at a time and then get a few days off. I work as a geologist so my job involves carrying around boxes of rocks; I'm stood up for literally the entire 12 hours except for an hour's lunch break. Some of the boxes weigh 115lb…

I was going to suggest doing a hybrid of Insanity and P90X and then read it in your post! If you want to keep your cardio conditioning then it's the best option. You could replace the P90X Plyometrics, Yoga and Kenpo workouts with the Max workouts of Insanity. There are loads of schedules for a hybrid workout if you…

P90X is a good choice! It was the first Beachbody programme I ever did and I saw really good results with it. But yes, you do need some equipment. For the dumbbells, you're going to be doing a variety of exercises so you need a mix of weights. I'd probably go for two 10lbs and two 20lbs just to start off with and buy…

I've had this before. I can't say if it was the endorphins from the run that just suddenly made me well up with emotion (like you, I once thought I'd never be able to run like I was) or if it was hormonal (like you, I was also on Yasmin at the time). Maybe we're both just basket cases though. :p

How long do you have to prepare? I echo the above commentor, C25K! Alternatively you can make your own run-walk programme where you gradually increase the run time but you need to be honest with yourself when you do it with no cheating or going easy. You'll be fine though! You're not crazy for signing up. People who don't…

Yes! I asked the rest of my coaching team and Walmart sell a set of plastic 'Gold's Gym' weights that fit the barbell. Hope that helps. Do you have a coach? Do you want one if you don't already have one? I'm starting LMP myself and I'm really excited for it. Might invest in some of those weights as well now! Lol. Cat Team…

Wow, those are really great results! I'm starting LMP in about 3 weeks once I've finished Insanity and I'm really looking forward to it!

You're not a failure! I find that the protein is, for me, the toughest of all to get right. There's a reason why there are so many protein supplements out there. Someone who's done as many programmes as you simply can't be a slacker in the exercise department and the 98lbs lost says that you aren't a slacker in the…

I'm still doing Insanity. I'm on week 4 at the moment and I saw a difference within a week and my family saw it within two! I run as well and noticed that I could run further and quicker than before. One of the guys in my challenge group lost 20lb just in phase 1! It really does work if you stick with it. Do you have a…

It gets more boring with time but the results are worth it! I started seeing a difference literally within a week and my family could see changes in two. I do use Shakeology and I try to eat clean as well 80% of the time (the other 20% are treats). The best way to stay motivated I found was just to aim to finish each week;…

I haven't done Les Mills but I've done other Beachbody programmes. At the moment I'm doing Insanity and I'm starting a P90 / P90X challenge group within the next few weeks if you'd be interested in that? You can't really go wrong with Beachbody programmes. If you order the DVDs from the website then you get a 30-day…

I bought a Garmin Forerunner 405CX. It logs calories using heart rate and not distance travelled and speed like some others. I plugged the numbers straight into the MFP exercise section as a custom workout. You could also do as you suggested in your post with logging it as cardio (I think some people log it as aerobics…
