As someone else said, join the keto group as there are some haters on here. Also, check out http://www.reddit.com/r/keto/ - there's lots of good info and advice on there. You will probably get a bit grumpy in the next few days as you go through sugar/carb withdrawal, but after that you can expect less desire for snacks,…

Cycling - it's no impact; you can make it as gentle or tough as you want; the scenery distracts you from the pain and the long steady distance rides get my mind into a state where time passes and I've done 30 miles without realising. On the other hand, I can do a short, sharp hilly ride for an hour on my way to work and…

Maybe see if she wants to walk 5-10 minutes to a park at lunchtime, for lunch in the sun on a nice day? That might start the right sort of conversation. It can be a difficult enough topic to raise with friends, let alone with people you don't know very well.

I have bought them off Amazon in the UK, but have also found them cheaper (less than 2/3 price) in a couple of big asian supermarkets here in Edinburgh.

I didn't feel lethargic, but I did get a bit grumpy after 3-4 days with carb withdrawal, then I started feeling great; I didn't feel like snacking as I was satiated by all the tasty food I was eating and the weight just dropped off. (yes, I know, water weight blah blah blah) I can ride my bike for 3-4 hrs at a time without…

My pee is usually a good indicator - it has a stronger smell, and looks different. The keto sticks are good for confirmation but after a while you'll get better at knowing you're there. There's a keto group on here and /r/keto over at reddit is also good for advice and support.

I tried it about 3 years ago but I wasn't very committed - I lost 14lb the first month but I drifted away from it and put it back on. It will work if you want it to work and are serious about it but if you let bad habits sneak in (like I did) the flab will pile back on. Good luck!

First up I'll say that when I talk low carb I mean low amounts of starchy, sugary carbs like rice, bread, pasta, alcohol and spuds. I still eat a lot of other vegetables though. I have been on a ketogenic diet about 6 months now, and I have lost at least 15lbs of fat but cycling and weights have added some muscle. The flab…

I assume by low carb you mean cutting down on processed, complex and sugary stuff - bread, potatoes, pasta, rice & alcohol etc. I cut out all this stuff and have lost about 20lb in the last 6 months. I get my carbs from vegetables, and after a week or so the carb cravings disappeared. No doubt this thread will be flooded…

I saw a programme where Bear Grylls had a very special way of ingesting sea water... Thanks for your reply.

Just out of curiosity, how soon would I die if I ended up on a desert Island with nothing but fish and seaweed to eat? I weigh about 220lb, just me and no other people to cannibalise?
-
I didn't realise that - I'll check it out.

I have been on it about 4 months now, didn't really get the keto flu, and have lost about 15lb - not much change in weight lately but my belly flab is much less and my thighs are getting bigger as I cycle a lot. Over the last 18 months I've dropped about 40lbs by cutting back on sugary and starchy food - ie, spuds, rice,…

265 out of a 310 mile target so far - I want to average 10 miles a day this month and should do that no problem. I'm planning a long ride (30 miles +) tomorrow, have been lucky with the weather too.

If you're interested in low sugar/starch eating, have a look at the film 'Fat Head', it's on youtube. It's about 1hr 40min, but there is some interesting stuff in the about the politics of the so-called food pyramid and what happens in your body when you eat complex carbs.
-
I tried it but soon I was eating 5-6 medium meals a day, which then turned into 5-6 full meals. I just have 3 a day now.

I've been LC/ketogenic for about 4 months now - I cut out all starchy/sugary stuff, even wholemeal pasta etc - and I feel great. I have lost 15lb or so, not dropping much weight-wise the last couple of months but my body is definitely changing. My belly flab is much less and my thighs are getting bigger as I cycle a lot. I…

+1 on the omelette or bacon and eggs. Another thing to try is porridge/oatmeal but get the ones with no added crap in them. I find I stay feeling fuller for longer with any of these rather than cereal so I'm not tempted to eat.

thanks tweetr

Not a personal attack, but your ticker says 15lb out of 30 lost - how did a certified trainer get so overweight?

.riiiiight.

No we don't. Humans didn't start eating a lot of complex carbs until we started farming around 10,000 years ago. We started growing grains (ie, selecting and planting wild grasses that had a lot of seeds on to yield more food) because they are easy to store and can be made into bulky food like bread. We didn't evolve…

Record your various body measurements as well as weight - the last few weeks my weight has remain fairly static but my belly flab has shrunk and my thighs have grown. Apparently your body retains water as part of the muscle repair process and if you're doing all those workouts, you'll be repairing. Somebody also told me…

I'm running on 20-30g carbs a day, I recently did a 3.5hr/42 mile mountain bike ride and felt fine the whole time. I didn't even eat much after it, maybe a couple of drumsticks and a small salad. Your body evolved to run on fats and proteins, not potatoes, pasta and grass (in the form of grains). As I have written on here…

Also, don't worry if you lose 3-4 lb then gain one, it's pretty normal. Just keep doing what you're doing and be patient.

It's the old story - if it seems too good to be true it probably is. There are no magic fixes for weight loss, just eat less and move more. Good luck!

Well done, Cannon G, you should be proud of your achievement.

To the OP: as suggested above, go to reddit and read the keto pages; there is a lot of good info and more encouraging people on there. You'll see what to expect as far as side effects (no poo = eat more leafy greens) and how long it will take to get into ketosis etc. I have been on a ketogenic diet about 3 months now and I…

Probably the battery, but make sure your strap is washed regularly, and you could try some application gel to ensure a good contact.
