  • I used to hear this all the time until everyone got used to the new me. I just take it as a compliment and say thanks for noticing. I lost an additional 15 lbs after the comments started. I am still thinking of dropping a couple more to get my BF down under 10% (I REALLY want killer abs). If more people realized what…
  • @hidbee and jrrose7 - STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF! Seriously. The scale is the worst metric to use to measure progress. It can vary wildly through the course of the day and does nothing for telling you your body composition - which is WAY more important than your weight. If you must weigh yourself, do it once a week on the same…
  • You will not regret it. Actually, you might. Only because obstacle racing is highly addicting. By the end of the year I will have run 6-8 this year. Definitely sign up as soon as registration opens. You get better pricing. you get a better at getting the heat you want, and your obligated to do it if you pay up. When your…

  • Add a new recipe - put in all the items you used to make what ever you ate and you will get your calorie count. For a burger, put in the patty (use the uncooked number on the box), bun, condiments, and any veggies you add. Most all of the ingredients you would use are already in MFP, you just need to put them together.
  • Eat more. Eat 4-5 smaller meals per day. Eat your exercise calories back if you are using MFP auto settings. Stop weighing yourself daily. Weight will fluctuate several pounds per day. Weigh in no more than once a week, same day, first thing in the morning when you get up. Take measurements and watch those instead. Get…
  • Holy crap you look HOT. Before I saw your age in your profile I assumed you were in your early 20s. Well done.
  • Kate Moss looks BETTER with some weight on her!!
  • There's no doubt that vanity sizing exists, but I don't think it's conspiracy by the clothing companies and I think it does get worse with larger sizes. This probably has a lot more to do with were the clothes are being made and the quality of the clothes. Since I've dropped weight, my tape measured waist is right at 31".…
  • Ok, so it's been 7 months since I replied the first time. Since then I have reached my goal weight and have been maintaining for 3 months with no issues. Here's the most important thing I learned along the way - Diets are temporary, so are the results. If your "diet" is not a permanent lifestyle change, then you are going…
  • You sir, win the internet.
  • Good deal. Start lifting heavy and you'll put on a few pounds plus your BMR will go up.
  • If you're trying to lose weight fast - neither. You will lose more cutting calories than you will working out.
  • Depends, do you stand in the back staring and making weird noises or do you actually participate?
  • 1) It's going to hurt for a while, even with good shoes. It's going to take your body a while to get used to moving. 2) Good running shoes will help a bunch. Get fitted at a running store then buy online if you don't want to pay top dollar.

  • That's a tough price range for a decent elliptical. You'll find that there are basically 3 levels - under $750, $750-1500, and $1500+. The under $750 tend to be crap and won't last if you actually use them. The mid-range is hit or miss, some are very good, some not so much. You have to count on the reviews to see which…
  • Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, Offspring and other similar stuff. Keeps me pumped up.
  • Is that a healthy weight?? I'm 5'9" and I weigh 155 and I'm about 10-11% body fat. That seems really light for your height. In any case, the daily caloric goals don't sound unreasonable to me. I am maintaining at about 2250 plus what ever I work out. My net daily ranges from 2500-3000 depending on my workout.
  • Well? How was it? I ran the Carolinas Warrior Dash both last year and this year. The obstacles this year were a lot more fun. Harder than last year but not brutal like the Spartan obstacles. Overall it was a fun race. You?
  • If there are any trail runs near you, do your running there. It's much different than running on the road and it does take some practice running trails. It's a better workout anyhow if you can manage it. I would recommend following the Spartan Facebook page. The post a workout of the day that is focused around body weight…
  • That sounds about right, they say the Spartan races are about 5k, 10k, and 15k. In my experience they are more like 5 miles, 10 miles, and 15 miles. I did the Carolinas Beast in 6:23 and the Carolinas Sprint in 1:19. I'm hoping to get under 2:30 in the Mi-Atlantic Super in August.
  • Most everything has been said, but there are somethings that should be repeated in my experience. 1. Get good shoes. Go get fitted at a running store. They will make you run and watch how you run so they can recommend the right shoes. If they don't, go somewhere else. 2. Run outside, the treadmill is not the same. 3. Don't…
  • Don't get me wrong, I run. I run a lot. I love running. However, for most people you also have to consider: 100 calories = 1 cookie not eaten = 0 seconds per day = 0 seconds per year 300 calories = 3 miles = 30 min per day = 182.5 hrs per year The point being that adjusting your caloric intake is a lot easier to do. It's…
  • Your fiance lost weight because he was at a caloric deficit. Depending on his weight, a 5k burns about 300 calories or so times 3 times a week is only 900 calories. Calorie deficit to lose weight, exercise to get fit.
  • This sounds pretty close. I know that (depending on your weight) running a mile burns around 80-100 calories. At a 4 mph pace that would pretty close to your 75 calories the machine says.

  • There's really no comparison to the Beast. The location was MUCH more difficult. The Beast in SC has over 1700 of elevation change, the Sprint only had 300. The obstacles are pretty much the same, just a lot more of them. Well, last year's Beast had a couple of really tough obstacles, the second barbed wire crawl was…
  • 2 down one to go. Completed the Sprint a couple of weeks ago, now I just have to do the Super in Virginia. Race is in August instead of June so I have to wait a little longer, but it will be worth it. After the Beast, the Sprint was almost easy. Well, maybe not easy, but it wasn't as daunting.
  • If you are mostly sedentary during the day, list it as such. Then make sure you log your exercise and eat those calories back. If you don't eat your calories back your deficit will be too large. How often are you weighing yourself? Don't do it more than once a week. More importantly, take pictures and measure yourself.…
