I think the detractors are confusing sugar from fruit and other natural sources with the bad processed variety. When every doctor and his dog keeps saying we should eat more fruit and veg, I've never once heard any of them mention "but not banana's"

Pies! If calories didn't matter, I could have all the lovely pastry I want.

If you've got access to one, you could try using the hand cycle. Other than that you're gonna have to be really strict and determined with keeping your eating in check.

I was almost through with my work out yesterday, just had squats and calf raises left. This one guy had already been hogging the Smith Machine for 30 minutes. Worse still, after every set he'd sit on the bench and use his phone, then do a quick set of barbell curls which he was also hogging. Finally, 45 minutes after…

Excellent post! Many centuries ago it was a fact that if you threw someone into a volcano, it wouldn't erupt. I seriously doubt anyone still holds that belief now. Science and research are constantly evolving and improving and it's safe to say that many things we hold to be 100% accurate fact will be found out to be false…

Just hold it for as long as you personally can. If 10 seconds is all you can manage at least you're doing them and you'll gradually build up to longer. If you feel it in your arms, try moving them slightly forward infront of you. That should activate your core instead of your arms. I've just started doing them with my arms…

Don't know about running in the wind, but why is it that whenever you're cycling and it's windy, the wind is always blowing against you? You could cycle up one road with the wind slowing you down, blowing against you and then turn around and come back the other way and the wind would change direction as well. Or does the…

Be careful your grip doesn't fail and you end up lobbing one of the weights into the telly. Not done that myself, but I'd be astonished if someone somewhere hasn't done it.

My name is Rodney, but my brother Derrick, has one friend that insists on calling me Dave. Really gets on my tits.

No idea what the machine is called, but I love it!! My goal is to eventually be able to do wide grip chins using just my bodyweight with no help. My strategy is to do 3 sets of 12 and as soon as I can do all 3 sets I'll reduce the assistance. This machine is fantastic! Letting you do chins without the frustration of…

Mistakes by people who don't have English as their first language is normal, expected and certainly not something to frown at. It's a ridiculously hard language to master. Take the "there" for example. We have there, they're and their. All sound the same but mean totally different things. Then take the word "nose" We have…

Sorry, but you're in for quite a disappointment. It's ok, but nnowhere near upto the standard of Carpenters classic (Which is actually a remake itself of sorts) Scariest film I saw when I was a little kid, about 6 or 7 years old, was Yellow Submarine! Yeah, The Beatles animated film. Those Blue Meanies scared the crap…

You need to watch Old Boy before Spike Lee ruins the film entirely by doing his remake. As for Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, that's almost better than Old Boy Talking of leaving a lasting impression, anyone who's seen Misery will remember "The hammer scene" No matter how many times I watch it, I still wince and cross my…

What a great thread! I was a massive horror/gore fan in the 80's and went to great lengths to try and see all the so called "video nasties" The only one that scared me somewhat was Evil Dead, all the others, Last House, I Spit, et al, just seemed like really poor films with dreadful acting and terrible directing, not in…

I've got an extremely iffy lower back and am very very dubious about doing dead lifts and/or squats. I've been doing planks for a few weeks now and I've almost doubled the time I can hold them. Still don't feel confident enough to any of the heavy compound lifts I mentioned earlier. I've felt no pain at all in my back…

I'm in a similar position. I'm currently at 180 ish lbs with a bodyfat % of 24. I don't want to lose any weight overall, just decrease bodyfat and increase muscle while remaining at 180 odd lbs. I would imagine a good way would be to work out how much energy doing weights will require and add that to my daily allowance,…

Yeah. My job is quite phyical but I'm used to it. I'll only count exercise outside from work.

If you've set your activity level correctly then you shouldn't have any need to log anything work related. I'm a postman and never log any of my work "exercise" I walk probably 5 miles a day but having done it for over 15 years my body is very accustomed to it and I never break a sweat or get out of breath. I also…

If that's all you can manage then that's enough! No point adding more weight just to satisfy someone elses opinion of what you should be doing and failing miserably, or worse still, injuring yourself. Keep at it and the weight will rise over time. Remember, this is not a sprint but a marathon. See what weight you're…

Zero impact and it is more than adequate for getting your heart rate up and making you sweat buckets. The one major drawback for the Gazelle is the sheer size and weight of the damned thing. It's a complete swine to move and is very very heavy and awkward to hold whilst trying to move. I've had proper rage from the the…

The figures MFP gives us can only be a very rough estimate at best. Doing 20 minutes on an eliptical machine. MFP doesn't know what resistance you had it on, how hard you were working and what your heart rate was. The same can be said for any form of exercise. Running at 7mph for half an hour would be easy for one person…

Chicken and Prawn Tikka Masala with cashew nuts and a chopped banana. All served on a bed of keema rice.

Whichever one gets your heart rate up in to the correct zone.

To build your muscles you really need to be doing no more than 3 sets of 12 reps. Any more reps and you're really only toning the muscles not building them.

Slayer and Pantera are brilliant for working up a sweat. The gym I use seems to only have one CD stuck on a constant loop and it's chock full of annoying chav music.

I definitely enjoy doing the eliptical more than the treadmill, always hated running. Never sure whether to bounce though or try and keep my upper body as still as possible. Something strange happened on my screen on the eliptical the other day. I'd got the rpm up to around 180 ish and was really giving it some welly when…

Definitely staggered by what is considered a portion. I would easily think nothing of having what I now know is 4 portions of cereal for breakfast. Even the so called healthy cereals like Special K are calorie laden. Cheese was another thing I was shocked by. 30g is a portion, I then found out how much that actually is.…
