  • How goes the transition?
  • What are you exercising for? To lose weight? To improve strength? To increase cardiovascular fitness? Are you really tired after your four mile walks? What is you current state? Overweight, underweight or are you happy with your weight and just want to get a bit fitter? So many variables to consider before a proper answer…
  • Just started the same program myself. Kept injuring myself at the gym and decided I don't need to spend over thirty quid a month on being so unfit I can't go to work. Got a few kettlebells, suspension trainer, weighted vest and a pull up bar already so I've got everything I need for a very good home gym and know I won't…
  • 50 minutes, laps, meters?
  • Are your knees going too far forward over your toes?
  • Google you are your own gym. There's a book an app and a website dedicated to exactly what you're after.
  • If you're accurately monitoring your calorie intake then yes. Otherwise no! You can not out exercise a bad diet. Also would like to echo the point made earlier about being careful how you get your calories burned estimates. Machines are notorious for over estimating.
  • I'm a postman, so at least 3 hours a day while working. Obviously stopping and starting so often and having done it for over 15 years my body is used to it which in turn means it's not really exercise, but it still burns calories. Gym wise I do 10 minutes on the Eliptical before and after my lifting sessions which are four…
  • Full face, full cover helmet! A wasp smacking you in the face at 70mph is not funny. Full protection all over is a must. Jeans are about as helpful in a crash as a layer of tissue paper, your skin will look like it's been through a cheese grater if you wear jeans and have a crash/slide
  • Rather than "Not sure" I think you should've just said "It's painfully obvious"
  • Has she bought into another fitness myth? Is she afraid of getting too "bulky" or muscular?
  • Well, that's another one added. Thanks for such a giant douche and proving my point. Your predictable childishness is appreciated.
  • I love these threads! Whilst the original post definitely has a point, that point will be lost amongst a sea of derisory pathetic come backs designed to do the exact thing the OP spoke up against. Excellent way to collect a load of useless trolls together to fill up your ignore list though. So it certainly served a…
  • There's an old saying that seems to fit your situation. Don't run before you can walk. If you're getting pain from walking alone and at your current weight running is a bit too much. That's just my opinion of course, others may disagree. Good luck in your journey.
  • It doesn't matter! The loss will come from a caloric deficit. Now if you want to know which is best for burning calories(not fat alone) I'd say a good mixture of both. Steady state cardio is obviously the easiest to actually log/track whereas strength training is extremely hard if not impossible as only you know how much…
  • China called, they want their wall back!
  • Why do you want to count it as exercise? Is it so you can eat back the alleged calories you think you've burned? If it's part of your everyday routine and has been a part of your everyday routine for a while, chances are it has obviously had no effect on helping you lose weight. Why would suddenly logging it make a…
  • Most gyms will offer some introductory sessions with a trainer. Having someone in actual real life talk to you and assess you will be on much greater benefit than anything anyone can offer here from merely reading a few lies of text. Ask at your gym and see about some sessions with one of their qualified instructors and…
  • You should definitely look into giving Kettlebells a try. They will most certainly aid you gaining muscle and if done at a relatively high rep/set frequency they'll also give you a tremendous cardio workout too.
  • A post solely designed to do nothing more than poke fun at Cross-Fit. I do believe this should've gone in the Chit chat and general bollox sub forum and not Fitness. It has nothing to do with fitness other than to poke fun at something the OP probably knows nothing about other than what they've read online here.
  • If you sit in front of your laptop for an hour joffing off over topless wimmen, that's exercise! You could work in a kitchen and do nothing but mash potato for an hour, that'd also be exercise. Anything that you do outside of your daily normal life to burn some extra calories is exercise. There are just degrees of how…
  • Huddersfield born and bred! Living darn sarf now for the last 10 years but Yorkshire is still home.
  • I ignore any food items in the data base that have been input using this ridiculous cup measuring rubbish. It's so vague and as most of us here are trying to account for every single calorie we eat it makes sense to be as precise as we possibly can. So using some wishy washy measuring unit as a cup defeats the whole…
  • The vinyl ones aren't too bad in the lower weight ranges, once you start going up towards and beyond 20 kg's they become too big and unwieldy. Restricting range of motion for some exercises. I believe one of the main criticisms of the vinyl ones is the seam across the handle that can cut into your hands, using gloves will…
  • Too many variables to have an accurate equation for working out calories burned from strength training for everyone.
  • Walking is my quick, relatively, go to exercise normally. Unfortunately, right now, I've sustained some weird hip injury and can barely walk for more than a quarter mile before the pain sets in. So at the moment, I'm really missing walking. Especially as I'm a postman, so can't even do my normal job and would usually be…
  • This guy is amazing and the app will have everything you need https://www.marklauren.com/
  • Check out the Barstarzz guys, they do nothing but bodyweight exercises and have great physiques. An extreme example as most people will never train enough to do some of their moves, but it shows what you can achieve with nothing but your own body for resistance and perseverance and will power.
  • The best piece of equipment in the gym, or anywhere else for that matter, is you! More importantly, your will power. We all know how to lose weight, just most of us don't have the necessary strength of mind to really do it. We know we need to eat a little bit less, we know we need a balanced exercise programme, but we'd…
  • From what I've read online it seems the majority agree that the goblet squat with either dumbbell or kettlebell is an excellent way to start your squatting journey, it teaches you correct form and body position as the positioning of the weight against your chest forces you into using the correct motion. Don't worry about…
