At some point, someone will tell you all you have to do to solve this overheating is to to lift heavy, they will be wrong, what you need is lots of cardio, get out and run for your life.

Believe me snow will not be a problem in London, if the ground has enough snow on it to stop anyone running, for more than a couple of days a year I would be amazed. As a previous poster says it will be comparatively cold so layer up and run. Good luck with your time in London and enjoy your running.

I don't think anyone here would be able to tell you what the best shoes for you are. You really do need to get into a specialist running shop to get fitted for shoes that will do the job for you. It so important to get the right shoes before you start serious training. Once you find good shoes you can then reorder future…

1, The scales in the kitchen are so much more important than the ones in the bathroom 2, Be patient. 3, If you have a bad day, have a good tomorrow. 4 Be honest with yourself, if you eat that chocolate and don't log it, it still counts. 5 When you have a victory, shout it from the rooftops, success breeds success. 6…

Ah the supreme confidence of youth, I want to lose 80lbs by April therefore I will. Good luck. I prefer the knowledge that comes with age. I have lost over 100lbs, and gone from severely obese to "normal" BMI but it took me over a year.

I am signed up for just 3 so far:- Jan 5th First Chance 10k Exeter. March 2nd Bath HM April 12/13th The Wellington Boot 100k Trail walk/run. The rest of the year will depend on how I do in the "Boot", if I complete it then I am qualified for the 2015 LDWA 100 miler, so I will concentrate on long distance. If I don't then I…

An update to the above, I took ibuprofen 400mg 3 times a day, Sun, Mon, & Tuesday. Wednesday the pain had completely gone. I ran 6.6 miles in a new PB for that route, didn't mean to, I just felt so good to be out running again that I went flat out. I ran the same route again today and was nearly 3 mins slower.

Hi ATT949 that is very interesting and gives me hope that this could be sorted quickly. I have instinctively turned to Ibuprofen already, I have taken 400mg tabs 3 times today and will do the same tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

Fried bread, 2 eggs (sunny side up), mushrooms, 2 sausages, 2 slices of fried bacon, grilled tomato, black pudding, 2 hash browns, 2 slices of toast and butter. Orange juice and unlimited coffee. Oh and then I woke up.

Just be patient, log every thing including vegies and fruit. If you eat at a deficit you will lose weight,

Well done

I have just got back from town, I went in to buy some food for the garden birds and came back with £150.00 worth of running kit.

Either walk slower or faster then you don't have a problem.

I am doing the Bath Half, it claims to be a flat, fast course.

Thanks for all those that have voted so far, if anyone else is interested then there is just one day left before the voting closes. I am getting quite excited about maybe running a Marathon, in fact today I went out and ran 10.5 miles to see if I could run at a slower pace than I usually do and was amazed to find that just…

I just log everything on to a spread sheet, date, time distance, speed, where run, type of run, Equivalent time for 10K, Half Marathon and now Marathon. I also use my HRM GPS watch site (Polar) to record and analyse all my runs.

Great Thread, my goals are, Re run the 10k I ran last Jan in 1:18 and go under 55min. Run a half in March under 2 and in April run in the London Marathon sub 5 or (because they are both on the same day) walk/jog 100k to qualify for the 100 miles walk/jog in 2015.
-
You went over 10 miles at 10 min/miles. It depends how used to that distance and speed your body is. It sounds to me that your body may have gone into a slight shock. Back off in your distance for a few runs and then slowly build up again, ensure you are hydrated before you start your run and as suggested before, eat some…

Since I lost weight I have joined a group here in the UK called the Long Distance Walkers Association and their flagship event is a 100 miles nonstop walk/run held each year over off road routes. One of my aims is to qualify to enter this in May 2015. This means I have to complete a 50+ overnight event next year so the 20+…

I use the Polar RC3 GPS, I like the Polar website where all the data is downloaded for analysis, a chest strap is used to pick up your heart rate. The watch has a choice of 7 screens for different sets of data as you run.

Hey that's ageist, I'm 64 and I can run 9 min miles, 5k in 27:36 this morning. The advise on smiling is great though.
-
I eat 200+ gms of carbs a day and have lost over 100lbs. A calorie deficit and some running has worked wonders for me.
-
Many thanks for all the advice and encouragement. I will start to up my mileage lets see what happens in March.
-
Good luck to you all.

I feel discriminated against, I am not American or a woman, why aren't my opinions on ice cream valid?????

Today I ran the Great West Run in Exeter UK, a hilly half marathon. I had a target of 2:10 and actually ran 2:06:17. Which is 23 min off my previous best time so am delighted. I went off far too fast again mile 1 in 7 min 42 sec but managed to keep my form and finished OK, I came 1415th out of 2200 and 20th in my age…

On Sunday 13th October, I am running the Great West Run in Exeter UK. Bib number 1760. It is an Urban and rural route and quite hilly, even so I expect a new PR for a half marathon because I think I am much fitter than I was last June when I ran a 2:28 half.
