One of my reasons for losing weight was definitely vain and wanting to have a better body. Now that I've lost some weight, I like that I feel better and feel I look better in my uniform and that helps keep me going. I'm also happy that I can run faster/farther, my cholesterol numbers are lower, I feel better physically,…

Funny - I've had a similar experience. My initial goal was 140 which was just under the line for normal BMI, but with some gained confidence as I lost weight I'm looking at 130-135 as a new goal even though I'm bouncing around the mid-150s and have a bit left to go  I love diet breaks. I've been on and off MFP and…

So you and I have the same height and goal weight and pretty similar current weight (if I'm calculating losing 30 lbs from the goal weight you have here). I have my weekly deficit set at 0.5lbs instead of 1lb because I found I was too hungry when I set to 1lb - when I was heavier I could handle a 500 calorie deficit, but…

I tend to go a while and then suddenly drop. Usually it's closer to one week before a drop, but it has been two. My weight loss graph looks more like a set of stairs than a straight line

I don't pay any attention to sugar. I look at my carb total, but usually more out of curiosity than trying to stay over/under a certain number. I mostly focus on protein because I sometimes having trouble getting enough, and try to stay under a certain amount of fat - I only lower fat because I have some medical issues…

My Fitbit One is spot on for me. I've had a fitbit since the company started so I've played around with it a lot and found it to be very accurate for me.

I use this calculator to estimate what I burn on my long runs, but I generally don't eat much of them until the next couple of days. I'm training for a marathon so my long runs are up around 15 miles and increasing now. I run early on Sunday morning and then on Sunday I eat what I feel like I need to eat (eat when hungry…

My mom used to make comments to me as well. Things about what I should eat and that I should suck in my stomach. I finally got upset at her about it and we sat down and talked (I was mid-20s I think at this time). We came to the conclusion that she made these comments because she's insecure about her own weight and feels a…

I probably would have freaked out too, which wouldn't help the situation. Glad you stayed so calm flumi :) I haven't been able to fast for a couple of weeks due to nausea and stomach issues. Feeling better now, so I might try a fast on my next rest day (can't fast on running days, end up feeling sick).

There is no connection between gluten and endometriosis that I am aware of. If you're having your period that often, depending on how much you're bleeding, I'd be concerned about iron deficiency anemia, so iron rich foods would be good - but that's not really directly connected to losing weight, just preventing feeling…

wrestlers right before the weigh-in for a match...other than that, no one. I still see Sailors doing this. And then ending up in medical.

I definitely agree with the above regarding measuring food intake. In answer to your fitbit vs. mfp question, the reason they are sometimes different is because fitbit gives you calories as you go throughout the day to include your bmr calories. We all burn calories just by existing right? mfp gives you those calories at…

Haha, took me a second to realize what you were saying. My first thought was of weight plates, not dinnerware  (not sure if the spelling is the same for both)

I love trendweight.com! I weigh just about every day but look at the website and use the weight on the scale as a data point only. I think you have to have a fitbit account if you're going to use trendweight - accounts are free and I don't think you have to have a tracker. You just have to put your weight into the fitbit…

Welcome :) I just rejoined the group after taking a diet break but I know a few things so feel free to ask questions of any of us. I started out at 178 (at 5'3" so somewhat similar starting BMI) and am currently down 20 lbs. I find that this works well for me and allows me to eat in a sustainable way and keep a weekly…

I also naturally eat in a 16:8 pattern (never been a breakfast person). I do 5:2 and am in the first group TeaBea posted. I'm actually getting back into it after not doing it for a few months. I like it - it's not for everyone, but it's a good way of creating a weekly deficit if it works for you :)

I weigh in every day and use trendweight.com to see the trends in my weight - takes the water fluctuations out of the equation and makes me feel better :) There's also happy scale (iOS app) or libra (android app) that do the same thing

I have wine some nights and after my dinner I see how many calories I have left and calculate how much wine I can have (or calculate it with dinner, depends on if I'm eating out or at home). I'm someone who generally only has half a glass because I'm such a lightweight ;) I find it fits into my calories just fine

Had my first fast day yesterday restarting - it went better than I thought it would. I remember struggling when I first started 5:2 a little over a year ago, but yesterday wasn't too bad - maybe it's easier the second time around :) Had some hunger a couple of times during the day but hot tea did the trick and I'm not even…

What you're talking about is basically intermittent fasting or IF. Some people have an "eating window" where they only eat during a predetermined time frame (16:8 where you fast 16 hrs and eat during an 8 hr window, etc). Other people do 5:2 where they eat 500 calories 2 days a week and eat at maintenance the other 5 days…

I drink one of the Crystal light energy packets almost every day (they have caffeine and are 10 calories/packet). I log it. I love them and they give me some caffeine without dealing with hot tea in the summer heat.

The same pros apply to me and are why I do 5:2. I found that I do 16:8 naturally (was never a breakfast person), so I just added 5:2 to it. I find that yes, I lose weight faster, but not because IF is magical, but because IF helps me stay in the calorie deficit needed to lose weight for the above reasons that Zedeff…

Hi all :) I was a part of this group a while ago and then drifted away from MFP. Continued 5:2 for a bit and lost about 20 lbs, then just kind of naturally took a "diet break" and have been maintaining for about 2 months. Looking to get back into the 5:2 lifestyle, not just for losing weight, but also because I feel better…

If you have a smart phone apps like Happy Scale (apple) or Libra (android) can be helpful to smooth out and see trends in your weight loss. Since you've just started it'll take a few more weeks for it to be able to calculate an accurate trend, but you can still see if you're moving in the right direction. I weigh daily but…

If I remember right the estimate for calculating calories burned while walking is (0.57)x(weight in lbs) per mile. So 0.57 x 207 x 5.5 = 648.945 I don't know how much you're walking or active besides your 5.5 mile walk, but it could be that you're burning 1000 calories in total exercise (purposeful and incidental). FWIW, I…

When women go through menopause, generally all the milk producing tissue will decrease and women's breasts end up mostly fat. I don't like to assume things, but at 61 I would guess she's in menopause. Could definitely just be the way you lose weight OP - if you keep going they may go down eventually, but they may not. As I…

I find myself more hungry the day after I run. I'm usually not very hungry the same day so I'll "save up" some calories for the next day when I know I'll be more hungry. Maybe you could eat a little less on your non-run days so that your weekly deficit will be the same?
-
Stop giving links to non-scientifically backed websites. If you can find a well written, peer-reviewed article from a credible scientific journal that backs up your claims, I'll eat my left hand... I'd look and see if MFP has "human hand, raw" in the database, but I'm not that worried that he'll actually find one.

Oh I don't buy the syrups they sell. Didn't really like any of them. I usually add mio or fruit juice :) If you're looking for diet pepsi taste, it doesn't help. But if you're just wanting carbonation with a taste you like then it works.

I've always preferred Diet Coke personally - it's what I grew up on :) I also really enjoy making fizzy drinks with my soda stream - not because I think it's "healthier" - I don't think diet sodas are unhealthy. I just like making different drinks and the fizziness is what I like from soda so it works :) Good luck - with…
