  • I get up at 4am and eat around 250 calories. I am at the gym by 5am and workout for an hour. I get to work between 6:30-7am and have another 400ish calories.

  • If you're using MFP through a web browser just click on "home" then under the lighter blue bar you'll see Profile. Click that, once there you'll see the edit profile button. If you're using the mobile app, I have no idea.
  • Welcome to MFP and take a look at this group. All people in the same boat you are. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/3322-100-pounds-with-no-surgery

  • Go to a specialty running store and get fitted for the right shoes to match your feet and your running mechanics. Hint: if you go to buy running shoes and the person working there doesn't put you on a treadmill and watch you run, you're not in a specialty running store. Your feet a complex engineering marvel. If you're new…

  • You can get a fitness band with hrm capability to and rely on that to give you an approximation. Or you can get a hrm/chest strap that's compatible with your phone and let that do the same thing. Or you can manually approximate it on MFP by adding 30 mins of circuit training to your exercise log. These are all…
  • You're aware it's irrational, as is everyone else. What's funny is people who are aware it is irrational will still attempt to rationalize away how you're feeling. What you're feeling is normal any time you step into a social dynamic you're unfamiliar with. You're not being silly so don't feel silly. The only thing I can…
  • I was going to say something snide but then decided to try not being adversarial. The calories your fitness band are tracking are an approximation. Keep that in mind. If I were you I would incrementally step down your calorie consumption until you find a balance that leaves you satiated, with plenty of energy, and losing 1…
  • OP. I perceived your words to be english but I have no idea what you said other than the guy at work eats more calories and rolls his eyes at you.
  • I had it every once in a while growing up by my child hood preference was maltomeal. Splash of milk, lots of butter and lots of sugar. Not really sure why I was obese as a child.
  • Steel cut oats are the way to go. Don't wait and cook them in the morning, nobody I know has 30 extra minutes in the morning that they wouldn't prefer to spend asleep. Boil them for about 5-7 minutes the night before and then put them in the fridge over night. I prep mine three days in advance, put them in glass pyrex…
  • I don't worry that much about my weight. Don't get me wrong, I rejoice as the number shrinks but I pay more attention to my improving blood pressure and lower resting and peak heart rates. To me my resting heart rate is really what lets me know that what I am doing is working. If that's not enough for you, measure your…
  • I've never lost a toe nail from running. Dropping something heavy on my toe yes, not running. My understanding is that it is caused my improperly fitting shoes and may or may not be exacerbated by crappy socks. If you run long distances in cotton socks you're asking for unpleasant things. Even at my ideal weight (220lbs),…
  • If you want to quit doing something, then quit doing it. If you want to stop drinking soda, then stop drinking soda. It's what I did. Was it pleasant? No, it was decidedly unpleasant at first. Once the withdrawals went away it wasn't unpleasant anymore. Without the caffeine dependency I'm in general more alert. Without the…
  • Stopped working out.
  • I'm going to guess you don't have a lot of experience with lifting since you're asking how to start. I'm not attempting to discourage or disparage, everyone started somewhere. Just do your homework and be smart about it. Don't worry about how much you're lifting at first, worry about your form and ease your body into this…
  • So. The consensus appears to be that there is nothing at all that shows that diet soda and specifically aspartame is unhealthy or dare one suggest... bad for you. First lets give this the common sense treatment. You don't let your pets drink it, you don't give it to your houseplants, but you're fine guzzling it all day for…
  • 1000m 60min, all freestyle. Forcing myself to not rotate to other less demanding strokes for "resting" had a couple of notable impacts this morning. Obviously, I didn't get in as many laps. What I consider more important though is that I improved my technique a lot during the laps I did do. There's much to be said in the…

  • Cotton holds moisture, which traps heat and is definitely NOT breathable. It's why specialty runner's socks cost so much and are NOT made of cotton.
  • Most of the morbidly obese people I know eventually were able to power through and gain even more weight. I know 4 people who have had the procedure. Only one of them has kept the weight off over time. This isn't a large enough sample to be relevant statistically.
  • I'm brutally honest with myself about how I look and what the cause of it is. I hate what I've done to myself and I hate the way I look. It motivates and drives me. I will go to the gym and finish workouts no matter how much I want to stop or it hurts, because doing otherwise is not an option. The hate is focused on the…
  • What specifically is wrong with your thyroid? Is it tied to your osteoporosis? I had hyperparathyroidism, which relates to the parathyroid gland(s), but has absolutely nothing to do with the actual thyroid.
  • Well played sir.
  • I am pleased when I stay cognizant of what I've done. It's just the typical mindset I think a lot of people have that wants to focus on what they haven't done or what they don't have. I'm trying to shift that mindset while I shift my body. It's a work in progress. I'm sorry to hear about the chronic fatigue. That is a big…
  • I'm not criticizing what people do or don't eat. It's the notion of this intentional obtuseness with regards to the concept of healthy or clean food. If I craved ice cream I would have some but that's never been a draw for me. When I want something that will really light up my taste buds I've found that hummus hits the…
  • People advocate that there is no such thing as unhealthy food. That CICO trumps all. Now they can either prove it or not. I'm betting not will be the option of choice. Sidenote: does MFP offer a calories burned for googling?
  • 60 mins, 30 laps (1500m) I just wasn't feeling it today on my swim. Today was the day I had hoped to break 33 laps to ready 1650. I'm not sure if it is because the intensity of my cardio on my non swimming days has picked up, I added in a mile walk with the dog after work, or simply because it's the end of the work week…
  • I love these threads because inevitably it draws out the trolls who are more interested in discussing the definition of specific words than they are the actual topic, all of which is meant to obfuscate the obvious. What is clean eating? I brought a visual aid: That's a pound of fresh vegetables with a serving of fruit per…
