I've seen a few of these threads and I'm definitely interested in these. Currently I am eating steel cut oats, I make them in advance and let them soak in the fridge overnight(+) so I don't have to spend 30 minutes in the morning cooking oatmeal.

DNF ~ Did Not Finish. I'm guessing. Really digging the, "I'm doing it anyway" attitude. Do you have just 1 day per week where you have your "long run" ? If so, for the next two weeks have that run be 10 miles. Your other runs during the week can be shorter. For the 10 miler nice and easy. You're not trying to win the half…

If you're not consistently exercising then each time you do it's going to be a shock to the muscles involved and you're going to suffer afterwards. Consistency is key.

I have some history with shoulder injury so before I start lifting any weights of significance I want to spend at least a couple of weeks focusing on my shoulders. Today was the first day I did any lifting with my shoulders and they were in much better shape than I anticipated them being. I attribute this to the past…

I hope that works for you. I didn't even think about blood return, which is kind of silly of me. I'm 6'4" so I will have crappy circulation at times in my feet. It's kind of fun at night to have super cold feet to stick on my gf and make her freak out. I've been in that zone on the blood pressure scale that's after the…

There's a lot going on here and you're not going to get resolution on these forums. I would just say to be calm, do not let this cause you to spiral out of control. You had some cookies. Logically you didn't want them but you had them anyway. They're not going to magically just appear as fat on your body. If you have to…

I have the microsoft band 2. I really like it so far.

I noticed that doing cardio after lifting helped to lessen the severity of the associated pain afterwards. When I was active duty my leg routine was intense and left my legs all twitchy and quivering every time. The pain 2 days later was pretty pronounced. It was the only workout I wasn't following up with a run. All my…

There are some stretches out there that will help, I'll let you google them. Also some strengthening exercises you can do to help. If you've already over done it then most likely you're looking at some down time where you're going to have to do cross training to get your cardio. Consider what type of surface you're running…

LOL @ the irony of the gender shaming ITT. Will be the same females who instantly jump on and ridicule any male towards female condescension or erroneous use of the word "girl".

Mine is actually insecure about the prospects of me improving my fitness and my looks, to the point where she's flat out said that she thinks when I get my weight down I'll get a better girlfriend. Her words, not mine. I just do what I can to reassure her. She's literally out of my league physically so I just tell her that…

Thanks to all for the feedback and the link @nuffer. I hadn't given any consideration to seeking out some type of coaching but it makes sense. It is definitely something I'm going to think about and look for local options once I have built up enough endurance to feel like I'm not wasting the coach's time or my own.

1500m (30 laps), 60mins, alternating breaststroke, sidestroke, freestyle laps.

About the only thing that is good about being really big (like I am) is that getting the early weight off is relatively simple and just involves stopping doing a lot of the things that you're doing wrong. Cutting soda is a pretty significant step. As you start logging and become aware of portion control you'll see where…

is jumping rope an option for you?

I take it one meal at a time, one day at a time. I've got 100+ to lose and the overall scope of the project is too daunting to take in all at once. So, I don't. I also try to think about food purely in terms of being fuel, not a reward or special treat. My treat is my returning health, my reward is feeling better and being…

Action expresses priority. Instead of coming home from work and playing computer games I now come home and wash my gym clothes, do the dishes and prep my food. Instead of staying up late watching television I go to bed so that I can get up at 4am to hit the gym before work. It's up to you to decide how important losing…

When I was training for a marathon a decade or so ago I use to cut it with water. About a 50/50 mix was as high as I'd go, usually would be lower, about 30% gator/power-aid, 70% water. Also ol' Hal Higdon recommended walking through the aid/drink stations during the races/runs. I don't know if your treadmill has the…

MS Band 2 and the associated ms health dashboard/phone app. Have an app called gymprovise I use to use to track lifting, hoping it is still supported and not defunct when I start lifting again soon. Planning to get a withings scale next month.

Feel free to keep posting pics tho.

Log in and track each day. Establish going to the gym and making good decisions on what to eat as part of my daily ritual, not just some exception I'm slogging through.

Also, different brands are good/better at different things. It comes down to your physiology. You should probably go to a store that specialize in running, if they don't put you on a treadmill and tell you to run for them, you're not in the right place. I'm tall and heavy, even when I'm slim and trim, I'm heavy. I also…

I've cut all oils out of my daily eating. Empty calories with no nutritional value is my reasoning. You can actually water saute.

I like Brooks. I was at a running specialty store in Georgetown and the guy there steered me towards them. I was skeptical but he gained some credibility (aside from that being his job) since the Brooks shoe he was pointing me at was cheaper than the shoe I wanted. I've been wearing Brooks ever since.

If I was in maintenance mode as opposed to the currently, holy crap I need to lose 100+ lbs mode I'm currently in I would consider it but I'd probably never totally eat them back as I'd be somewhat skeptical of the accuracy of those calories in both directions.

Back when I could run distance (getting myself back there again), I had done some research on barefoot running and the whys and hows of it. It seemed to make sense to me so I bought some shoes for it and incorporated it into my running. It wasn't an instant, magic fix but it did seem to work in that the muscles in my feet…

To track gains?

Just keep in mind that the more weight you lose the slower it comes off. The early pounds are easy.

I track because it is just another reason to stay away from certain foods. I just don't want to put them on my log.
