If you absolutely HAVE to have junk, go buy a snack size (like those 25 cent Lays bags) from the grocery store, eat it and get on with it. Torturing yourself mentally is no way to live. And do NOT buy "family size" anything in junk. Good luck!

In addition to patience, get either tape to measure or a pair of pants (that won't get shrunk in the dryer!) to measure by. The scale is a sucky way to measure progress. Good luck!

From reading the above posts, it sounds like this is an unhealthy obsession for you. It's really rough. I have a friend who is a normal, healthy weight and even has muscle, but she is tortured by negative thinking about eating. I second (or third or fourth) the advice to get help, although I would add this: get OFF of MFP.…

Congrats on beginning to work on getting healthy! Good luck to you! :drinker:

I have a Fitbit Force (the one they discontinued) and they're not taking it back! I love it. It helps me see how active I am (or am not) and makes me do more when I'm having a slow day. Good luck to you!

I believe Nike makes something that goes in your shoe & tracks all of that. Google it & good luck!

This reminds me of a book, "The Willpower Instinct." There was a phrase in there she used (and I can't remember it or find it online, sorry) about how we tend to moralize our choices, so that if we eat well for a day or lose one pound or work out really hard, we justify our entitlement to do something "bad" to make up for…

Look great, congrats! :drinker:

I think it's somewhat helpful AND somewhat harmful. It's key that we get back to REAL food, no doubt; processed and sugary foods absolutely do hit the same part of the brain as cocaine, and we've known it for years. On the other hand, it's true that it is YOUR decision what you put in your mouth -- unless, of course,…

Well, there's 160 and then there's 160 with muscle. Do you have it? Do YOU feel good in a bikini? If YOU -- and only you, not your mom, sister, friend, hubby, boyfriend -- feel great in a bikini, ROCK the bikini! :drinker:

There are websites and a few books that have basic bodybuilding (weight lifting) routines. You can try bodybuilding.com (which sounds intimidating, but it's not) or even the old Joyce Vedral books, which you can get for free from the library and have pictures to show you how to lift properly. I believe there are apps also…

Wow, great job! Also, IMO, the second picture looks like the daughter of the first picture. Congrats! :drinker:

Don't feel bad. I was at week SEVEN and had to stop bc of an injury! I'm back at week 1 day 1 as of today. I do remember the jump from 1 minute to 5 minutes was rough. Listen to your body. Make sure your shoes are good. Don't try to beat any records. Enjoy the scenery. That's all I got. Good luck! :drinker:

I really like ChaLEAN Extreme for weights. It's a BB product, FYI, but a good one. Good luck! :drinker:

Well, it *could* be gluten. Have you tried ditching gluten? p.s. if you do, watch out for the gluten-free processed stuff. It can have a lot of carbs and sugar in it. Good luck! :drinker:

I try to "trick" my brain by using pomegranates and oranges for sweets and allowing myself a small home-made chocolate treat (like a s'more I make -- 1 sheet graham cracker, 1 marshmallow, 4 dark chocolate chips melted in the microwave). It hits that sweet part of my brain without going overboard. Don't feel too bad about…

This is funny, because my mother's family especially comments on weight loss EVERY time you see them, and I HATE that it's such an issue in the family, like if you lose weight you are more valuable or something. It's not something I want to pass along to my kids. These are also people who are in love with money, so go…

It's my understanding that we have a "protein myth" circulating -- i.e., that you don't need a ton of protein to survive, grow muscles, etc. You can also find protein in green vegetables, beans & tofu. Good luck to you! :drinker:

Boy that is impressive! Good for you! Good luck & hope your dad is better.

I'd suggest rather than 5 lbs. a week (which you would have to KILL yourself to achieve and which you are totally unlikely to keep off) that you choose an event to train for, one which you think maybe the hubby will be interested in, too, and work on how far and/or how fast you can go for the next three weeks. Look for…

I'm 48 and have 10-20 lbs to lose, depending upon the day. I'm certified as a fitness instructor but still struggle myself. Would be happy to have another friend on MFP! :drinker:

According to your rules, I'd need an IV of booze set up! :drinker:
-
You cannot spot LOSE, but you certainly can spot TRAIN. If you train muscles in your stomach, arms, etc., specifically, you'll have more definition -- but you'll only see it once you lose the fat. Good luck to you! :drinker:

I cannot imagine a guy needing only 1230 calories a day, even one that sat on his a@@ all day.

Good for you! I did C25K app (free version) and loved it until an injury started acting up. It's easy to follow, but be aware that weeks 5-7 you up your running a LOT. Congrats for making the decision to get healthy & best of luck to you! :drinker:

I get the same cravings sometimes, and fruit is my absolute go-to for sweet cravings. Just be sure that whatever you have is ripe, or it tastes crappy. I just had an orange about an hour ago, and it was delicious. Good luck! :drinker:

Mean people. You know who you are. :grumble:

You are talking about SUGAR, not carbs. When I think of carbs, I think of things like rice, veggies, etc. If you go back to starches that you find in nature (i.e. not anything in a box or a wrapper), you'll be fine. Good luck! And don't forget nature's "candy" -- fruit! :drinker:

I LOVE my Fitbit Force and have had NO rash. I think it depends on you. Good luck whichever device you choose! I think it really helps. :drinker:

I either have baked old-fashioned oats with nut butter and almond milk along with a piece of fruit OR a veggie burrito, usually mushrooms, onions, spinach with veggie slices (i.e. fake cheese), veggie refried beans and coconut yogurt or actual sour cream in a whole grain tortilla. YUM! :drinker:
