  • I love my Withings scale. It recognizes users automatically; synchs weigh-ins via wifi; and can even synch directly to My Fitness Pal. It tracks Lean Body Mass % or Lean Body Mass in pounds; or you can do Fat % / Fat in pounds. I can also view my data on iPhone or iPad. They also weigh to the nearest TENTH of a pound!…
  • Bacon won't do it. It's too high in protein to get you to a 75% fat target. Same with an egg.
  • Not sure if this helps, but to achieve the 75% fat target, your ratio of fat grams to protein grams must be at or better than 2 to 1. That is, you need twice as many fat grams as protein grams in what you are eating. I think. Cold meds and maths don't mix well.
  • Here are a couple articles that Ifound helpful http://www.carbsmart.com/how-to-add-more-fat-to-your-low-carb-diet-for-nutritional-ketosis.html http://www.carbsmart.com/10-healthy-high-fat-foods-perfect-for-nutritional-ketosis.html I usually eat 85% fat until I leave work. Then for dinner I go more moderate. Most days I…
  • For people that use an iPhone or iPad, you actually have a pie-chart on the MFP app that shows the % of Calories from Fat, Protein and Carbs. This makes it very easy. To do this manually: %Fat = Fat Grams * 9 / Total Calories %Protein = Protein Grams * 4 / Total Calories %Carbs = Carb Grams * 4 / Total Calories
  • Sounds delish. Just make sure it's unsweetened coconut.
  • I think it's helped - but it's not a sure thing. Let me explain. Early on in our keto journey, the husband and I were doing some protein heavy lunches and/or dinners (things like KFC grilled dark meat chicken, and that's it; or a cheeseburger sans bun). We were kind of watching the macros, but still more focused on carbs.…
  • Here's my guide on making a batch of this, that you can also travel with. It has really shortened our morning routine. http://imgur.com/a/YYLwF
  • Just curious. What is a "mild state of ketosis"? Are you doing blood ketone testing?
  • I supplement with recipes from the "Fat Fast Cookbook" as some of my regular meals. Here are a couple of articles that may also help: http://www.carbsmart.com/how-to-add-more-fat-to-your-low-carb-diet-for-nutritional-ketosis.html http://www.carbsmart.com/10-healthy-high-fat-foods-perfect-for-nutritional-ketosis.html
  • I totally agree for someone who is following traditional low carb / keto. I think the key is that they identified eating up to 80 carbs per day. So that sounds more like moderate carb, low fat, moderate protein (rather than low carb, low fat, high protein). From what I've read, it is uncommon for someone to eat low fat, up…
  • This is not a sign of ketosis. More of a sign of withdrawal from carbs. Affectionately known as the Atkins flu or Keto Flu. You might find this Keto FAQ beneficial to clarifying your knowledge of keto. http://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq
  • Sure ways to tell are Ketostix, blood ketone tests, and a ketone breath test. Others have indicated that they are able to tell based on how their urine and breath smell.
  • Sugar free. Watch the qty. some still have carbs. I like gums that have xylitol as a sweetener e.g trident). Most sweeteners are acidic. Xylitol is a "base". It actually helps fight acid erosion of your teeth. But, since your photo is of a dog, I feel compelled to mention that xylitol is poisonous for dogs.
  • There is not a correlation between fat consumed and heart disease. Read this - Taubes article, "What if it's all been a big fat lie?" http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/07/magazine/what-if-it-s-all-been-a-big-fat-lie.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm "In the intervening years, the N.I.H. spent several hundred million dollars trying…
  • A++++++ SUPERSTAR!!!! 73% on day one!
  • Here are some good information sources. read the first two, and then see what questions you still have. If you want to know a little bit on keto - Keto in a nutshell https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aiHSPoto_YqsNTDvL-g60nytMnyH-CJcCbiAx1IEUYM/edit If you think you might want to try - read this FAQ…
  • Use this: http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ It will give a protein range -- go with the MINIMUM. Also - if you could create a direct hyperlink to your specific page so people don't have to search, you might get more feedback (many of us haven't used the site and just aren't familiar with it). Add that to your profile, and…
  • Darnit! Know I'm going to have to go back to my spreadsheet and add data! :-) I'm not sure if I have enough regularity on the ketone measurements to correllate this. We measured daily early on. Once I got some confidence on how my body was reacting to food, I started more using them when I had something iffy to assess if I…
  • OK. Here's what I see from your diary. Here are your last 7 days macros (darn MFP for not having the Pie Chart on the website, like they do on the IOS apps - that Pie Chart helps soooo much). Carbs Fat Protein 12% 53% 19% 32% 36% 16% 11% 64% 22% 9% 68% 21% 13% 53% 32% 10% 69% 21% 8% 55% 26% 1 - Your daily macros are all…
  • You are my hero :-)
  • I feel I learn a lot from daily weigh ins. For instance, I know that the days that I only drink 8-9 glasses of water, that I have a weight gain the following day of .5-1 pound. And the days I've had my biggest losses have occurred when I drink 15-16 glasses of water. I know this because of weighing daily. If you only weigh…
  • No, but the high fat aspect is what helps many be successful doing low carb. Many people strive for ketosis when following a low carb diet. If you aren't eating carbs, and aren't eating fat, then you are eating protein. Excess protein is converted to glucose, and impacts your body in the same way as carbs. Fat is also…
  • I don't think there's any basis for that. The science of how our bodies work doesn't really change. There's no reason low carb shouldn't work for you this time. In my experience, a target of 80-100 g per day is still pretty high, and could result in very slow progress. At that level, you're still getting an insulin…
  • A Caesar salad would be a great option. Also a Caprese salad. Meatballs? Some Italian style sausage? Here's one I've made that was a nice Italian option. http://imgur.com/a/tsyma You could also use fresh mozzarella balls (boccacini I think they are called) and wrap each in prosciutto. Then bake in some sauce. A friend made…
  • In my opinion, a 7 week stall after 2 weeks on keto is not typical. It indicates that something needs adjustment. There are a lot of possibilities for a plateau. Calories is only one. Some research suggests that people following a high fat low carb diet can lose while eating substantially more calories than you could eat…
  • If you'd like, open up your diary and we can take a look and provide feedback. But sugar is a no-no. It's likely preventing you from maintaining ketosis. Are you monitoring ketosis with ketostix?
  • Ha! I think I weigh in a minimum of 8 times during the day, before I go to bed, when I get up, in the middle of the night when I have to go to the bathroom! My husband tends to have the "whoosh", I actually have tended to have regular .2-.5 losses most days of the week. So I think this is another area we are different. But…
  • 1 - Tortillas. Notorious for impact people. Go a week without these and see if you see an improvement. 2 - Fat. I looked at the last 6 days of your diary. Several days your fat was in the low 50's. Gotta boost this up. 3 - Watch the protein. Too much protein will convert to glucose in your body - it's the same as eating…
