  • The liquid diet is only temporary. Honestly, the liquid diet pre-surgery kind of sucks, however what kept me going was the risk of having to postpone surgery, or a drastically larger recovery time. I don't know if they told you or not, but the reason for the pre-surgery liquid diet is to shrink the size of the liver. It…
  • Oh forgot, the first food I had was refried beans and plain greek yogurt flavored with either SF pudding, or syrup. I ate a lot of beans to start off with though. I didn't go with eggs until 3 weeks into the mushy stage. Really, you can have just about anything, just make sure it's pureed and smooth to start with. Protein…
  • I didn't bother taking any vitamins until the mushy phase, so two week post surgery for me. My medical team explained that two weeks without vitamins will not hurt long term. It takes months to create a deficiency. So I skipped liquid vitamins and went straight to chewables. As for gurgling, yeah, it happens. Honestly,…
  • Honestly, I wouldn't worry about stocking up on food, protein, etc. Believe it or not, your tastes will change post-surgery. I did the same thing, found a protein that I liked pre-surgery, then stocked up on it. Found that it made me gag post surgery and wasted about 200 bucks on it. Other issues that are fairly common are…
  • I got tired of the chewables and swapped to capsules about 1 yr post-surgery. My vitamin levels have not dropped at all. My doctor says there is no difference between tablets, capsules and chewables as long as they aren't time release. I had the bypass, not lap band.
  • Are these things really that good? I've tried many a protein in my life, and not found many work keeping around. I only stock two brands in my house. SEI Max Protein and Nectar protein. SEI is by far, the best chocolate, vanilla or strawberry I've tasted. Nectar just has innovative flavors. I mean, who else sells pink…
  • You may want to try posting in another group. I'm not sure how many of us have had the VSG. This group seems to look active: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1052-vsgers
  • This! I find this very ackward! There is a woman at work who had surgery about 8 months before I did. She's already started picking the weight back up. And I don't wonder why. I see her eating chips, and cookies for snacks. I see her eating take out Chinese for lunch. Now I like all these things and still eat them some.…
  • That's the spirit! I think education and support from family are the most important things. When your doctors tell you to do something, ask why. Educate yourself from those that are successful and follow many of the tips they give you. It can make your life easier. As far as support, I'm lucky enough that my wife went…
  • There are some things that you might want to work on pre-surgery to make life a bit easier. Granted, I had the RNY 18 months ago, however many of the first steps are similar. 1. Work on sipping water. Constantly sip instead of gulp. Your stomach will be incredibly inflamed post surgery and it won't be able to hold much if…
  • You know, technically, I stalled about month 5 or 6 as well, but I also lost about 130 lbs during that time as well. I maintained it for about 6 months, then watched my weight start to creep between Halloween and New Years. So now I'm back to tracking and watching what I eat. I've lost about 15 lbs since the new year, so…
  • I signed up, however I won't be adding too many miles this week. Only doing 2 days of cardio. I've got 3 days of strength training this week. My training has me doing phases of lots of weights, then later lots of cardio. I just got done with the lots of cardio phase.
  • So, I choose the RNY over the sleeve. 1. My BMI (50.2) and my weight: 340. My surgical team presented the RNY to me as for those who want to lose more than 100 lbs. They recommended the band for those wanting to lose up to 50, the sleeve for those wanting to lose between 80 and 100 and the RNY for above that. 2. I actually…
  • http://www.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt_200/244_protein-bar-recipes.html I make the Blueberry and Banana bars. However, I've turned them into Chocolate, PB and strawberry bars by using chocolate protein, adding some PB2 and then chopping up strawberries into them. Just make sure you use really, really ripe bananas or plan…
  • First 2 or 3 months is the worst. Follow your medical teams instructions and take it day by day. The most important thing to remember is SIP SIP SIP! Keep sipping that water. Many a recent post-op patient has ended up in the ER with severe hydration. Make sure you have a water bottle with you at all times!
  • I weight everything, with the exception of liquids such as almond milk. Basically if the label has the serving size in ml, then I measure. If it's in gm or oz, then I weight it. Weighing it is much more accurate. If you don't believe me, watch the video at the bottom of this page.…
  • When I first started the consult and education part of my journey before I was even approved for my RNY surgery, one thing was pounded into my head from the staff at the surgical center. WLS is NOT a quick fix. It is simply a tool that forces/allows you to change your lifestyle. They told me that 50% of weight loss surgery…
  • I have the 220 model. I really think it's just the power button on it. I've had problems with them not turning off all the time recently. So I would just turn off the bluetooth on my phone, and the headphones would shut themselves off after awhile. So now, they don't turn on at all. The red light still comes on when I…
  • My only real concern with these is how they hold up to sweat. When I go to the gym, I sweat, and I mean no dry spots on my shirt sweat. I actually rusted the charger port on my other headphones off. I haven't found anything on these that say they are sweat resistant.
  • Bumping back to first page.
  • Yes, and to expand on that idea. It should take you about 30 minutes to eat your meals. You know, once you can eat food again. About 6 months post op my team told me I could skip the no liquids 30 minutes before meals rule. So my 30/30 rule is 30 minutes to eat, and no liquids during or for 30 minutes after I eat. The…
  • And don't forget your 30/30 rule as well! I found that one hard to get used to.
  • Depends on which type of sugar you are talking about. I mean I'm eating 3/4 a cup of greek yogurt with strawberry sugar free syrup and a few fresh strawberries tossed in. So, yes I'm eating 17 gm of sugar, however it's not processed added sugar. My medical team doesn't care about natural sugars. It's the processed white…
  • I do my official weigh-ins weekly, however I do weigh myself daily. However I know that I can swings of a few pounds depending on hydration and what time during the day I've weighted myself. I've been on many different plans and found that the vast majority of them have you weight in at the same time, on the same day every…
  • You can find the info online. Strawberry cheesecake for example has 9 gm of sugar. So, for newbies or even some veterans, that might be too much.
  • Greek yogurt can be done so many ways is ridiculous! I think my favorite is greek yogurt mixed with PB2 and a little bit of Stevia. I'll then cut up an apple (honeycrisp are my favorite) and sprinkle cinnamon on it. Dip the apple slices in the yogurt and enjoy! The other one I like is cheesecake! No, no, not the real stuff…
  • Make sure you take progress pictures regularly! You'll be amazed to look back and see how quickly your body changes. I still wish I had taken progress pictures monthly.
  • Just a word to the wise. Something I wish I did. Take progress pictures on a regular basis. You'll look back and barely recognize yourself.
  • I personally did not experience a stall until about 6 months out. However, I have heard earlier stalls are common. Usually around 3 weeks or so. The biggest things are making sure you are getting enough water, and getting your protein. I would not necessarily up the calories, as that's hard to do in the first few months.…
  • What my wife and I tend to do is make the recipe as is, unless it calls for more than 4 servings, however I think we have bigger pouches than most post-surgery veterans. By shear weight I can eat about 12 oz in a sitting. I was told that eating about a cup (8 oz) of food should be my max. I passed that by about 8 months…
