Living, breathing, thinking, relatively intelligent adults can try a variety of techniques in an attempt to find what works for THEM. For me, I tried the breakfast like a KING, lunch like a PRINCE and dinner like a PAUPER and it didn't work. In fact, a large breakfast set the stage for feeling like it was time to eat ALL…

I got tired of buying cheap equipment and having it wear out or break down after a year. So the last time we bought a Life Fitness machine, like they have at our local gym. We've had it for over 3 years and have never regretted paying the price for a quality machine. https://shop.lifefitness.com/c1-lifecycle-exercise-bike

I invest the 3 or 4 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day to log my food on MFP. It takes very little effort to weigh or measure my food while preparing it. This 15 or 20 minutes total each day is well worth it to me, first when I was losing the weight and again now that I'm maintaining. I stick with restaurants that have calorie…

Now I weigh everyday. Why? Because EVERY time I regained the weight I dieted off, it was when I decided I didn't need to weigh anymore and stopped.

I used to get acne periodically, even into my late 50's. I quit drinking, smoking and lost 50 lbs. and haven't seen so much as one pimple since. No way of knowing which of those 3, or all in combination was the cause.

Anything I search for on Amazon automatically starts popping up in my ads on FaceBook. ALWAYS! So those two are either connected, or I'm not as good at eliminating the 'cookies' on my PC as I thought I was.

Wow! I'm surprised. Usually there's a plethora of folks on here enforcing "Calories In / Calories Out" and that's all that matters, etc., etc. Truth be told I do both a 16:8 fast, eating only between 10am and 6pm, AND a 5:2 fast where I eat 800 calories or less on two non-consecutive days a week. This (somehow) aided me in…

Just a reminder, the only way to KNOW you're in a calorie deficit is to weigh or measure accurately EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth that has calories. I struggled for many months thinking I was in a deficit until I started precise measuring. Good luck with your endeavors!

I keep it very simple. I drew a line in the sand at 195 lbs. If I weigh more that, I eat below maintenance until I'm below 195 again. Can't get much simpler than that.

Yeah I try my best to ask innocently, "Did you see the sign that said the inside lane is for walkers?". Or, "The sign there says no standing on the track, did you see it?". Now the second time (especially on the same day) "Do I need to get a staff member to explain the rules to you?". Confrontation is not always a bad…

2010 Jack & coke 2020 Diet Dr. Pepper, yeah I quit drinking completely.

Until he believes he has a problem (other than a nagging spouse), he won't change.

I like the whole concept of "weight loss isn't linear". There will be some weeks where you'll lose 3 to 5 lbs., followed by weeks where you lose nothing at all. Maybe even show you're up a pound or two. GACK! But perseverance is the key. I weighed in daily during my 55 lb. weight loss. There were MANY days that showed no…

My tastes are simple, I'm fond of bananas. My mornings aren't complete without one. As for apples @puplefizzy , they started carrying OPAL apples here in our neighborhood. It has the mildly sweet, understated taste of a Golden Delicious but unlike the Golden Delicious, they're really crisp. Nice!

Although BMI is not an accurate reflection of one's bodyfat percentage, I established a goal of a BMI of 30. This is the top of the "overweight" range, and decided I would determine whether to go further when I reached it. Well I'm there, having lost 50+ lbs. I feel and look better than any time in my (61 years) of life,…

5'9" 194 lbs. down from 248 :)

54 pounds here.

For the longest time I struggled because I couldn't lose weight on (what I thought was) 1,500 calories a day. Then I got a good digital scale and a set of measuring cups and spoons. After diligently measuring EVERYTHING that went in my mouth that had calories, VIOLA! The weight started coming off. Obviously my "estimating"…

Mine were simple. After wearing XXL shirts and size 44 pants for decades, I comfortably fit into a size L shirt and size 38 pants (which I purchased) yesterday. Time for maintenance.

50 lbs. down, before and after

Intermittent Fasting (IF) in the form of Time Restricted Feeding (TRF) has made all the difference. I eat between 9:00am and 6:00pm. No night time snacking has made weight maintenance 'doable'.

Came out kinda big . . .

You look amazing! Congratulations.

See, that's what I'm curious about. How did you determine that you "lost muscle mass"? Did you use something high tech like a BOD POD or a DEXA device. Or was it a skin fold caliper test or a hand held analyzer? And did you get stronger in all your lifts or just some?
-
And BTW, I've been lifting "since dirt was invented". Roughly for the last 45 years. So maybe the normal muscle/strength gains attributable to a youngster don't apply to a 61 year old
-
Yep my bench stayed the same over 7 months, , , WHILE I LOST 50LBS OF BODYWEIGHT. I didn't really have any expectations of adding to my lifting totals while dropping such a significant amount of bodyweight. As for squat & deadlift, no. I have a history of herniated discs (disks?). So my heavy leg days involve a 45 degree…
-
That would depend on your definition of "lifting progressively"??? I cycle the weight and rep scheme over time, with higher repetitions and lower weight to lower reps and higher weight. . .
-
Before I retired it was after work, around 4:30pm. Now that I'm retired, it's more the 11:00am to 1:00pm timeframe.

You're probably doing just fine. The first two weeks of reduced caloric intake and increased activity usually results in an inordinate amount of weight loss. Supposedly from loss of water weight & intestinal bulk (fecal matter). If after the first couple of weeks you're still losing more than 2 lbs. a week, you might want…
