That does it. I'm switching to metric units. LOL I'm running about an 18-min mile, but I've only been good and consistent with my running since about April. It is very encouraging to hear from you ladies who once ran at that pace, but have gotten faster with time.
-
If you stick with it, your performance will improve over time. The point of the program is to work up to running nonstop for 30 minutes. For some people, this may be >3 miles. For others, it may be <2 miles. It just depends on your fitness level. There is no "right" way.

I am stalled in W7 right now. Haven't run since Sunday. My calf muscle is fine now, but I'm having a twinge in my knee that I know better than to ignore. I've also had some asthma with these recent rainstorms, so it's just been out of the question. We're going out of town for the weekend, and I plan to take it easy, and,…

That is too funny. I wasn't seeing the results I expected when I set my goal in MFP to lose 1 lb/week, and I think it's because of going over on the weekends. So I set my goal to lose 2 lb/week, with hopes that that will give me the margin for error that I needed to attain 1 lb/week. So far, my logic worked. LOL.

NOW I can see the pics. WOW!!! Just.....WOW!!! You're a stunner! Congratulations on the new you!

ROFL! Well! I guess we've learned who on MFP is fluent in Sarcasm!!!! This was good for a belly laugh before bed. Way to go! :-)

Running is definitely harder. I can't speak for all sports, but I have biked, race walked, put in hours on an elliptical trainer, and now I row on a rowing machine. Running is harder, hands-down. I think it's the breathing. It takes a while to find a comfortable breathing rhythm. Once you acquire it, though, you realize…

Here's C2's article about the force curve. (Sorry, I keep calling it the power curve, but that's not entirely accurate.) http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/training/tips-and-general-info/using-the-force-curve

That sounds right to me, Rogue. I'm a rank beginner, so I'm still sorting out the language, but you can have a ridiculous stroke rate, and still not be moving the boat much if there's no power in the drive.

Well, that's how you start, Chantel. A little bit at a time. Get some trail runners with good support. That should help. :-)

Once you're into the longer runs, the app doesn't seem as useful. It did help me get over a hump, though, because before, when I was running around the track or running in my neighborhood, I was using landmarks to mark when I would change from walking to running to walking. It seemed like I'd programmed myself to want to…

I never felt dizzy or lightheaded -- those would be *sure* signs of something wrong. I had profuse sweating and breathlessness. I didn't think anything about it at the time because I've always been one to sweat like a pig, and breathing's always been an issue because of lack of fitness. I mean, I'm running...of course I'm…

OMG! I love the tutu! I don't think I'm that brave (to wear a tutu, that is)! Great job!

It is impossible to diagnose your knee pain here. Some things to think about are 1) your shoes, 2) your form, and 3) your running surface. I'm assuming your shoes are good. Is your form good? Running on a road could be the culprit. Concrete is the worst surface to run on. Short term treatment includes icing your knee, OTC…

Varda, you nail it every time!

EACH TIME I PUT FEET TO PAVEMENT, I GET A LITTLE STRONGER. Love it!
-
Woot! Woot! You're awesome! And I am sooo envious of your time!
-
There's nothing wrong with repeating, if that's what you need. There are no rules. It's just you and the road.
-
Welcome aboard! Looking forward to hearing your updates!

DFL *and* a medal? That's awesome! I would be so behind you, btw. That's a great time.

I'm with you, Kevin. While my average pace last night was slightly faster (and I wasn't trying to be), I was DONE once I stopped. I think I actually had the beginnings of heat exhaustion, and I've been running in this soup since Memorial Day. Your comment about your shirt set off a light bulb in my head. I've been wearing…
