SO glad I'm not the only non-runner :P I have never ever liked running and I've never been good at it. I tried to be a runner a while ago but after 2 weeks of running and doing intervals I gave up - I wasn't enjoying a single second of it. I always groan when I see the running WODs on the whiteboard, but I've never not…

I use a small notebook where I write down every session I do, regardless of if it's a WOD or oly lifting session. I record what weight I used, how many sets/reps, etc. In the back of the notebook I have a separate section specifically for lifting where I record all of my weights for strength and olympic lifts. It makes it…

This approach has had me very curious and interested for a while - do you know how many calories you're now eating compared to before, and compared to your TDEE? At the end of the day, regardless of food choices, you still need to be in somewhat of a calorie deficit to lose weight... Paleo is VERY difficult for me as a…

20 mins to find 5RM in power clean - PBed by 2.5kg WOD1: 10 power cleans @ 30kg 10 box jumps 24" 10 min AMRAP WOD2: 21-15-9 Chin ups Ball slams @ 12kg I really liked this session. Lots of different things to do - short and sweet :)

Haha yep that all makes total sense, especially your last point. A friend of mine is currently working on building muscle so he always says he eats til he's full, and then eats a little bit more to get in the extra calories. So I guess if not logging I'd need to eat until just satisfied but not full, or something.…

Completely agree with what Kelly said - it all depends on what your goals are. For me, I just want to get better at crossfit. I want to get better at every aspect of it - lifting, running, gymnastics, bodyweight movements, etc. So I do crossfit 8-10 times per week and other than stretching/mobility work, I don't do much…

Interesting reads... I guess the biggest difference between my type of training and the training of the study participants is that I would put a lot more emphasis on protein for muscle recovery as well as carbs for glycogen recovery, whereas endurance athletes such as cyclists would focus more on energy depletion, rather…

Thanks for all of your replies. Lauren - you're totally right. I just need to be more patient. I think I'm just getting impatient coz I feel like it's been such a long time that I've been stuck at this weight (had plateaued for quite a while before finding EM2WL, gained 3-4kg during reset and now trying to lose again) so I…

Agreed. There is nothing classy or 'proper' about many of the movements we do in crossfit, especially when it is done wearing minimal clothing. Those who do crossfit will understand that, and will see images like those and know how hard they must be working to end up being snapped like that, and we will see their bodies…

Thanks for the reply :) Yep, my intake is 2194 with a 15% deficit. I do crossfit 8-10 times per week so my TDEE is around the 2500-2600 mark (can't remember exactly). I've just done the conversions - I lost 1.7 lb and then gained 1.3 lb back. I know that our bodies fluctuate a lot but I am trying to lose another 5-10kg,…

I'm in Australia so I'm guessing our options here are different to yours. I use Do-win oly lifting shoes and actually ended up getting a size smaller than what I usually wear. They are a touch more snug than I'd want them if I was going to walk/run in them, but given that they're just for lifting I prefer them to be a…

Now that the new year has begun, I have written up a proper list of crossfit goals for myself. I have no idea how long it will take me to achieve these - some will be faster than others - but I'm EXCITED to push myself to make them all happen!! The list is on the fridge so I'll see it all the time :) So. Goals for 2014: -…

Thanks for posting!! I'm so sick of hearing all the trash-talk that Crossfit gets, and it's almost always from people who have never set foot in a box, let alone tried to do a WOD or even taken a look at the programming. I mentioned something about crossfit to a friend a few weeks ago and the first thing she said was…

Figured it out - just needed lower case img instead of upper case :P One of the guys that trains at my box takes a lot of photos during training but he usually trains at different times to me so I hadn't been captured yet, but thanks to the holiday season he was at my session yesterday :)

Must have missed that - but I just tried it and it didn't work for me...

Does anyone have any tips, tricks or supplemental programs for getting T2Bs? I figured out a while ago that I was focusing too much on the swinging action of my shoulders through the movement, rather than kicking my legs up and letting the swinging movement come naturally, but I still can't get a full T2B and it's driving…

True. When you start thinking about deficit HSPUs, THAT'S when it will be more relevant to your push press weight as you're getting the same depth in the movement (depending on the level of deficit, of course).

Can someone explain how to add a photo to a post, without just adding a link to another site?

My first goals for 2014 are to be able to do a strict pull up with no resistance bands, and to be able to do full T2Bs - I can pretty much do knees to elbows in most WODs but can't quite get the last bit of that movement. Also haven't been happy with my back squat in a long time. Used to be able to squat about 10kg more…

I'm lactose intolerant so they whey proteins are no good for me - I put up with them for a while until I decided enough was enough and went looking for an alternative. I did a fair bit of online research, looking at reviews etc etc before I found the one I currently use and I love it. It's a rice/pea protein powder. They…

Same here. Most of these tips I know/do already, and I have a pretty strong stroke for a relatively short girl so I must be doing something right. I did a row today just during warm up and thought about pushing with my heels, but it felt so unnatural. When you go in, you do so on your toes, right? At the start of the…

Actual cholesterol, like the stuff in egg yolks, is the least of your worries. You're better off focusing on cutting down/out your saturated fats like meat, cheeses, etc. I'm not sure if you follow an entirely paleo diet and therefore don't eat dairy, but if you do then things like switching protein sources to lean meats…

Haha I believe that other girl would be me? :P Yep, train 9-10 times a week so I have 3-4 days a week where I train twice. One of those days I do 1 strength/WOD session and 1 purely lifting session, but the other 2-3 days I do 2 WOD sessions in a day. In the first few weeks that I trained that much I had a couple of little…

Haha, all good. It is nice to find other people who train that often and don't think I'm insane. One of my best mates trains that often as well so we feed off each other which is good, but most other people think I'm crazy :P
-
Short answer: I often do, yes. I train 9-10 times a week, so do 3-4 days each week of morning and evening sessions. Crossfit is usually the thing I most look forward to in my day, so I love training more than once a day. And Karen was in place of any specific strength work that day... I've been training for over 2 years, 4…

This morning was: "Karen" 150 wall balls for time - this SUCKED and I struggled more than I thought I would. 12.34 mins Then WOD 12 strict chin ups 400m run 15 toes to bar 4 rounds Needless to say my hands are significantly shredded. Then tonight was Front squat to 1RM @ 57.5kg Strict shoulder press 4 x 5-6 @ 27.5kg Then…

First of all, what you're feeling is totally normal. My low cal diet was never quite as severe as yours or for as long, but for 18 months or so I was eating around 1200-1400 calories a day, when my TDEE at the time would have been around 2100. I felt all of the same things when I started my reset a few months ago, but I…

If crossfit is something you plan on continuing for the foreseeable future, then I don't think it matters whether you're a newbie or not when it comes to the right shoes. I have been wearing my Reebok nanos for months now (wish they'd been around in Australia when I started 2 years ago!!) and they make a big difference. I…

This morning: Deadlift 3x5 WOD - 5 rounds 400m run 35 double unders Then 100m DB walking lunges Cannot express how much I hate running, but I think I'm getting s slightly better rhythm... Here's hoping tonight's session is more lifting and less cardio!!

There is no pattern to class sizes at my box. Yesterday the 9am had 16 people, today there were 9 people. I love the small classes, under 10 people ideally, but the big classes don't phase me too much. We have enough space for everyone and regardless of class size there is always at least 2-3 coaches for the session, plus…
