I try to bike to work in Minneapolis (about 4.5 mi one way) whenever there's decent weather- it is the perfect way to start the day! Luckily I get to take a paved trail almost all the way and avoid crazy drivers. Keep up the riding!!

This is the perfect article to answer your question! Even though this professor ate junk, he lost weight AND improved overall health by consuming fewer calories than he burned. Not to say you should go on a twinkie diet, of course ;) http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/index.html

I just finished re-watching all three extended editions (something like 13 hours of nerding out!) but it did take me a few weeks to complete. :)

Dang, you look great!!

Very impressive transformation! And I love the LOTR title reference haha.

Definitely popcorn (although if you inhale the popcorn or you'll have a coughing attack!) and I really like it on peanut butter toast

I like your thought out approach! Keep up the Nellie suppression, best of luck!

I want in! I will report Monday cals burned after I finish working out today :)

I have not followed the "diet" but made a huge batch of spicy low cal cabbage soup this winter and ate it for lunch and dinner for a week. I felt great, but I don't have the desire or will power to eat basically ONLY soup for a week :)

I totally have had this problem in the past- cereal is SO good and addicting! I try not to have it much at all anymore, but I still have a mini bowl after dinner (and dessert :P) sometimes.

The weekend was hard for me to track too. I forgot that I won't have internet at home till later this week, and couldn't crack the code on the laptop at my friend's place :P Pretty sure I went waaay over on Sunday, but was (guiltily) keeping this thread in mind while stuffing my face, if that counts for anything!

Also coffee and cream!

I think several brands could work for you (asics and diadora are what my flat-footed dad swears by) but you should probably go to a shoe store and get fitted, even if you don't plan on buying there. The style/series of shoe that each brand carries make a lot of difference...hope you find some good ones!

Done :)

This is a very good challenge! I absolutely know that this is why I have not seen progress (and actually gained a lb or 2 back) lately. I'm in :)
-
A Dietician friend of mine completely agrees with this- total calories are what count :)

I'm 5'5.5" and fairly small framed, with a goal weight of 112-115. I was down to this (several lb less actually, but was too thin then) a few years ago but was then involved in track and xc... Hope it is still realistic!

It's smart to take a few days off when sick-definitely don't go to the gym for everyone else's sake! :) You need to rest to recover, and then you'll feel much more motivated to work out when you do feel better.

I agree, the Asics 2160s are great shoes for support! But just make sure they're right for your feet before buying. I actually got horrible shin splints from the wrong shoes, not old ones. These were, however, my first and last Saucony's when I always get Asics :). Trainers had me ICE ICE ICE whenever you possibly can, and…

Wow, you do look SO much younger!!

I didn't count on Sunday! I knew it would be too depressing. The menu included bacon-wrapped little smokies, chips with crab dip and guac, fruit pizza, not to mention a few beers... oh yeah and BACON WRAPPED PIZZA ROLLS! BUT I did a P90X plyo workout ahead of time so it totally evened out, right? haha.

Good for you for signing up!! I agree with a lot of advice here, especially having a great playlist and going to runnersworld.com for a plan. Also, if you can find a friend or two to run with it is really motivating because then you have to commit to meeting them and it is nice to have a buddy with you on race day. I have…

When I did lose a decent amount of weight several years ago, I made loose rules for myself, like: only one serving of sweets/ dessert per day, no eating after dinner, get sweaty from working out once a day, and each meal had a full serving of fruit/ veggies in it. The rules definitely worked, but went out the window when I…
