The morning of, I usually eat a half bagel with some hummus, maybe a small banana. Depends on the distance. For my mid-week runs (which normally don't exceed 8 miles), I usually go on an empty stomach. The night before? Varies. Often I'm traveling so it's a matter of finding somewhere that will have something that everyone…

Currently training for marathon #2, so I do lots and lots of cardio. I actually want to incorporate more lifting into my life, but I'm finding it challenging to incorporate lifting workouts that actually matter that don't make my legs too fatigued to run!

I'm currently training for marathon #2 on 9/29; then late December / Early January, I'll be starting training in earnest for marathon #3 next April. Feel free to add me; it's always good to have running friends on here.

I rearranged my whole morning schedule so I could be at home on my computer when registration opened at 7 am and I'm glad I did! Last year the marathon sold out in 26 hours. This year it sold out in 59 minutes! So, yes, I did get a spot in the marathon. I already booked my hotel room. So, now all I have to do is train for…

The spinach linguini pesto with artichoke hearts from the veganomicon cookbook - one of my family's favorites!

I'm up at 4:05, usually running between 4:30 and 5:30 am. I get SO tired in the afternoon. I try to walk around the office a bit, drink some cold water, etc. I get plenty of sleep because I go to bed really early - I honestly just think it's natural to get a little sleepy in the afternoon. There are plenty of cultures that…

Look at you putting the puzzle pieces together! I plan to (attempt to) register for Big Sur. I already booked a hotel room; registration opens 7/15; however the RWC registration opens tomorrow morning. I'm leaning toward just doing the standard registration when it opens on 7/15, but I'm a bit concerned that somehow…

You know I did my 1st marathon on 5/19 ~ I've had problems with motivation too. Just this morning, I woke up at 4:03 (exactly two minutes before my alarm was set to go off)... so I'd had plenty of rest, all my clothes were laid out and ready to go, I only had to do a relatively short run this morning (4 miles) and it was…

I just did my first 10k a few weeks ago after having already done several half marathons as well as a full marathon. I found the length surprisingly challenging. I was doing the 10k for "fun" (work paid my entry fee) and I had run 11 miles the day before. My main mistake was starting out too fast. I know it's really hard…

True, I could go get a massage at the spa in pebble beach for a lot less than that... If all goes according to plan, this will be marathon #3 (I have to sign up for it before I run marathon #2), but looking at the course, it'll be the hardest.

Thanks for the link to the blog post! I'm hopeful that it will be point to point this year, but a lot can happen between now and April, so you never know.
-
True! I ran an organized half marathon on a weekend during my marathon training that called for a 13 mile run and in the midst of my marathon training, I blew my half marathon PR away. I totally surprised myself at how much faster I performed over that distance.

I was so excited to finally find someone that I can relate to... except I never drink diet soda, so my search still continues. So, is there anyone between 5' and 7' and between 100 and 300 lbs that *doesn't* drink diet soda? I fear I'll never find another.

I do this too... occasionally it works, but usually I'm still standing around for one or two more songs on my ipod before I can take off. It doesn't sound like much, but 6-8 minutes standing around outside feels like an eternity, especially when I wake up at 4 am as it is and I'm so rushed in the morning to get my run in,…

I don't notice any weight gain after long runs. I'm usually down 2-3 pounds immediately after my longer runs, but I gain those back over the day as I rehydrate. I haven't noticed gaining above and beyond lost water weight, though.

DORIAN is the #2165 most common female first name 0.002% of females in the US are named DORIAN. Around 2450 US females are named DORIAN! My daughter's name is ranked #396 and my son's name is ranked #173 (but I bet most of the people with my son's name are significantly older than my son). My husband's first name didn't…

THANK YOU. Whenever anyone says that muscle weighs more than fat, I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are talking about volume. The same volume of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat. That is true. My pet peeve? Women seeking "longer" muscles. Ummm... unless you plan on attaching yourself to a…

I think this is my favorite nsv I've ever seen posted on mfp!

Yes, the honey stinger natural gold tastes just like honey to me. I have found that sports beans work better for me, though.

This is what I have too. Generally, mine has been OK - BUT I have had some satellite issues. Sometimes it takes forever to find the satellites - so there I am standing around outside my house at 4:30 in the morning, waiting waiting waiting. Once it finds the satellite, it switches over to the workout clock all zeroed out,…

How old are your kids? It would be great if they could do some of those activities with you. Mine are 4 and almost 3, so right now they only way they can come on run is if I push them, or I could tow them on a bike. Someday they'll join me using their own power, I hope. I have a 10K in late July and my husband is going to…

Ummmm... throw a big tie dye party and just have a wardrobe of tie dyed clothing for the summer? I'm super sentimental when it comes to certain items of clothing, I'd be crying too.

Anything dipped in hummus. YUM. I also like to cut some bell pepper strips and use them in lieu of chips to dip in fresh salsa. And, it's summer - you can't forget about all the delicious fruit there is to choose from right now.

Mostly it's the fabric. When I'm running I'm barely even conscious of them being there, yet they are supportive at the same time. I don't know how they do that! Unfortunately they're super expensive so I don't have nearly as many as I would like.

Love my Garmin, but get so frustrated when it takes eons to find the signal or craps out on me mid-run. What else? I must run with music (my brain would go batty without it) and I'll admit to an irrational fondness of lululemon running pants/crops.

The registration opening is already on my calendar and I fully expect to delay my family that morning as I sit at home and attempt to register, crossing my fingers that active.com doesn't have any glitches in their system!

I was so nervous clicking that final button when registering for my first marathon! While marathon training was grueling at times, just getting over the mental hurdle of signing myself up was one of the hardest parts - so just think, you've already accomplished that! Congrats on your decision to run a full and congrats on…

All the people that said running more will improve your time on shorter runs - listen to them! Before I began marathon training, my fastest half marathon (in an organized race) was somewhere around ~2:19. I incorporated an organized half marathon into my marathon training and I ran it in ~1:53. I knocked off a ton of time…

I already booked a room at Hotel Pacific just in case I register. That's where we stayed for the Big Sur Half - great location and they allow dogs :-). I probably will end up registering. Everyone that does this race seems to rave about it and I'm not getting any younger, so if I'm going to do it, the time seems to be now.…

Well... I booked my family a hotel room for the night before... figuring that the best hotels will fill up once people are actually able to register ~ and with a hotel, I can just cancel my reservation if for some reason I don't end up signing up.
