Wrong. Breaststroke. Sounds like B.S., but it's true. Fly does not burn as many calories as a semi-proficient breaststroke.

And yes, I swim in a full suit. I kinda have to!!!! Otherwise my "girls" would give me black eyes :noway: :blushing: I have seen men wearing HRMs with straps and only wearing jammers. As long as the strap is tight enough, you shouldn't have a problem. Also, as with all HRMs, make sure the sensor part of the strap is wet…

I use a Polar F7. It is very, VERY simple to use. It monitors heart rate, time exercised and calories burned. You can manually enter your heartrate and type of workout or you can input basic info like your weight and height and use the OwnZone feature. All you need to do is tell the monitor if your workout will be light,…

I swam in college and have been a US Masters swimmer for 15 years now. There is some good advice on here. Check out isport.com and swimplan.com for workouts. You can input your ability level, equipment you will use (kickboard, pull bouy, etc) and the strokes you want to do and the site will create a workout for you. I am…

Since I will probably have Christmas with my folks and my Mother-In-Law's, I will most likely not log. It is just too hard to calculate calories on homemade, made-from-scratch foods. Plus, I want to just enjoy the day. I like someone else's idea on this thread of just quick adding 4000 calories and being done with it!!

Yep! I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis going on 16 years now. My ankles, knees, spine, elbows and wrists are fused. I have two severely herniated discs in my neck and lower back. I also have pretty severe Bi-Polar disorder and anxiety disorder so bad that I am almost agorophobic some days. All of the years on RA meds have…

I was diagnosed last year with PCOS and Cushing's Syndrome. I have also had Rheumatoid Arthritis for 15 years and was diagnosed with Type II Bi-Polar Disorder in 2009. I am on Metformin for the PCOS with zilch results. The Cushing's Syndrome is a result of taking prednisone for 15 years. I am also on methotrexate, which is…

Thank you guys for all of your responses! My favorite idea was burning it all...so easy!! But, I checked out flylady.net and LOVE IT!! There are so many great tips on there. That site is now a permanent fixture on my favorites bar! If we do get the house we've bid on, I will definitely use her tips from the first day we…

Same problem here. I have been on prednisone, amongst other drugs, for Rheumatoid Arthritis for 15 years. I have also been taking high-dose Seroquel and Depakote for Bi-Polar Disorder for over two years now and my weight refuses to budge. I gained 20 lbs the first month of taking Seroquel and Depakote. While I would love…

Sounds great! Some of the best foods/recipes come from "mistakes" in the kitchen. Recently, I have been throwing stuff together in a pan and letting it cook. Everyone in the house has been eating much healthier, getting their veggies for the day and not complaining. It's awesome!

You are so not alone! I have gained/lost the same 5 lbs for over a year now. Evenings are my worst time too. I will eat a healthy dinner around 6-7pm and then blow it all to hell around 10-11pm with snacks. I've tried drinking bottles of water, peppermints, etc., as well as, brushing my teeth...all to no avail. I want to…

I understand your frustration. I hate, Hate, HATE my boobs. When I was 120 lbs, I was a 32A and all was right with the world. Hockey gear fit, sport bras fit, and clothes actually looked good on me. Then I gained weight and my boobs grew...and grew....and grew..... Now, even though I have gone from a 44DDD to a 40, I am…

This may not be what you want to hear, but trial and error might work. This site does factor in a 500 calorie deficit per day for you. However, if you eat 1200 calories and eat back your exercise calories, you might still be tired, sluggish, or gain weight. I have been switching up my calorie intake recently. I hit a…

Don't quote me on this, but I think the calories will come from carbs, not necessarily sugars.

You are not alone!! Driving and smoking is the norm for me here in the traffic hell of Southern California. I also suffer from severe anxiety caused by driving. I'm on low-dose Seroquel during the day to ease the stress of driving, but having a smoke in my truck makes the drive easier. I too, would love to quit, but the…

The E-Cig thing sounds interesting. I have seen the infomercials, but just don't know about buying stuff from tee-vee! Is there a brand of e-cig that is reputable and works? If it will ease the habit, I would be willing to try it; and I'm sure I'm not the only one on this thread either!! BTW, I smoke 4-6 cigarettes a day.…

I started smoking at 15 y/o. I am now almost 32 y/o. But, here's the kicker....I'm a competitive swimmer. I've been swimming since college 14 years ago. Some how smoking has never stopped me from exercising. I do not get short of breath, my lungs don't burn and my blood pressure is normal. I know I need to quit, but it is…

You've got half an inch on me  I'm 4'11" and 184 lbs. I wear a size 16 from Old Navy. However, they only fit in the waist. They are HUGE through the butt, hips and legs. Old Navy's "Skinny" jeans are more like bloomy trousers on me, but they fit in the waist. This is a massive annoyance. At my thinnest of 120 lbs…

Personally, I don't buy into the whole not eating after a certain time of night thing. If you are feeling hungry, then your body is telling you something. My fiance is up at 0130 hrs and has to be at work by 0300 hrs. And as I'm making his lunch for the day, I get snacky/hungry. I drink a glass of water and if I am still…

Drink water instead of the al-ky-hol. Saves your liver and helps you lose weight. Either way, they both make you pee a lot!!!

Watch the meats. I had Subway for dinner tonight and in one footlong with extra cheese, there was about 2500mg of sodium. But, it is a great way to get your veggies in for the day. Just drink lots of water with your sub.

Does water really help? I promised myself I was going to quit about two months ago. Yeah, that's not going too well for me. I bought the gum and tried it, but it made me crave a cigarette even more!!! Smoking is really, really starting to affect my breathing. I've had a nasty, phlegmy cough for a month now. And, I'm a…

On days that I don't eat any type of meat (usually chicken), my go-to's for protein are fat free cottage cheese or fat free plain yogurt or a hard-boiled egg. I'm sure some will argue with me on this one, but after hard workouts a swimmer's secret recovery drink is fat free chocolate milk. It provides a good source of…

I love my Brita pitcher. I'm in Southern California and in my particular city, the water comes from mountain spring/aquaifers. In Los Angeles, it's a different story. Our tap water isn't too bad, but I find that the Brita filter really makes the water taste great. I also find that it helps to freeze the water and take it…

I love it too. However, I only eat fat free cottage cheese. I usually have 1/2 cup before bed if I am hungry or when I get up at 1:30am to get my fiance off to work. It's better than snacking on junk. Cottage cheese is also a good source of protein.

Interesting! I will talk with my Dr about this. We have a running joke (which is kinda sad if you think about it) but if my fiance and I ever want to get pregnant, there will be two daddies....the Rheumatologist and the actual dad!!. After review of my ultrasound from the GYN/OB, the Rheumy, and the GenDoc, there is no way…

Thank you for the response. I'm hoping others will respond to this thread (it so sucks having this issue) but if others are having success (or failure) it would be cool to compare notes. Which CLA are you taking?? I am taking the CLA from Max Muscle. Are you taking a different kind? If so, what and/if or are the…

I did the opposite. I have kept all of my "skinny" clothes. I boxed up all of my cute tops, board shorts I used when I surfed everyday, my "skinny" size 8 jeans, even my cutesy-uber-expensive bras from Victoria's Secret. At $40.00 a bra, those dang things should be bronzed!!! I told myself that one day I will wear these…

I'm glad this thread came up. Just tonight I posted about eating a Filet O Fish from McDonalds. After eating it I thought "that really had NO flavor AND I just wasted a huge amount of calories". And the "episodes" have begun. TMI alert....I have some horrible gas right now and have nothing but empty calories/fat, etc. to…

Good idea. I think Burger King does this; I'll have to Google. And to everyone else, you're all probably right. It's better to overestimate and take it as a lesson learned. Thank you for all of your responses. The worst part of it, it totally didn't taste that good. After I finished I thought "gee, that had NO flavor".…
