Hello! By the end of this month I will have completed 8 1/2 marathons. I use the marathonrookie.com or use Hal Higdon training program. Most important tips I would say are 1) Fit tested for shoes 2) Appropriate amounts of sleep 3) STRETCH 4) Healthy diet 5) Train on the route 6) Have fun Happy Running!

So happy for you! Great job on all of your work!

So since we are runners this may seem completely unhealthy and ridiculous, but there was a recent study that coffee and donuts are a perfect prerace meal. Something about the sugar and caffeine combination. That may sound crazy and not be your thing though. I tried finding where I read this, but didn't have any luck. I'm…

From one runner to another congrats to you! 5k is where it all begins!!! Keep up the good work and continue to challenge yourself!

Hopefully my last 12lbs so I can for once feel great about myself in Christmas photos!

Well I'm a runner and have been wearing the Nike Structure 14. I've been wearing these shoe for 3 years and I love them. I switch them out every 450 miles and never had any issues with my knees or back. They are light weight and great if you are looking for a stability shoe. I have also worn Brooks which weren't for me.…

I was diagnosed in 2006 with hypothyroidism. I weighed 220lbs. I had always struggled to lose weight but once I started synthroid it seemed to come off a lot easier. Now I don't feel that my hypothyroidism affects my weight loss at all. Just eat right and exercise and you will reach your goal! By the way follow the…

I drank and had fun! You are with your friends and want to have a good time. Don't stress about the cals, sugars and so on it's one night and it won't kill you. Aim for lower calorie drinks if you are concerned, but I would let your hair down and go for it. I did run 8 miles the morning of though, but I was marathon…

I worked in the Emergency Room as a Tech and he was the super hot Paramedic I couldn't stop staring at. I would flirt with him heavily and say "you are my favorite." After 3 months of flirting he finally asked me out on a post it! We went on our first date March 13th 2009 and we were married March 11th 2011. "you are my…

I can't say this is the right thing for bad knees, but in Runner's World Magazine that recommend to lean back and just make long strides and let your body take you down the hills. I do this and I zip down the hills, but I don't have bad knees so I can't say it would be the best thing for it. I'm sorry you have knee…

Not motivated to work out and hungry?!?!?! No way!!! (insert sarcasm) never happened to me! haha ok sure that happens and I am sure that happens to everyone. I think everyone hits a slump. For me it's just getting into a boring routine or having nothing to look forward to. I was eating too little at 1250 and then moved up…

Do i see quitting socially in your future? I smoked for years, but once I became I runner I just stopped one day and now can't stand smoking.

I hear you on the time! I run 4 days a week during marathon training. I run right when I get off work (I work nights so it's at 0600) Finding time to weight train can be difficult, but you can get it done is 30 min workouts by group muscles such has Mon- Chest and Triceps Wed. Back and Biceps, Fri. Legs and shoulders and…

I think about my day and my husband who is overseas. I have a running partner too so I do a lot of talking. Sometimes I think about my pace and breathing. I wrote my wedding vows in my head while running. I also replay conversations in my head...haha I'm weird!

I ran a 1/2 marathon yesterday in Minnesota and saw quite a few people laying on the side of the road seeking medical attention from the heat and humidity. It just goes to show it can be anyone. This is a good reminder to live in the moment and cherish every second of life.

Forgot about the about breakfast. I like to eat eggs and peanut butter toast with coffee before any race, because I get hungry and the protein helps me stay full and the bread is a good carb. hope this helps.

You never need to run the actually final distance of the race before race day. The adrealine you will have race day will carry you to the finish. Since the distance isn't too long I wouldn't eat a huge meal like you were running a marathon the next morning. Pasta is always a good idea the night before. There is usually…

I had the same problem. My knee started to hurt really badly and it was due to my IT band and then when I started new strenght exercises I haven't had in problems in about 7 months. Good luck to you and your speedy recovery!
-
also if you are anything like me I don't like my hands being cold so i wear mittens depending on the weather.
-
Food- That is up to what you feel you need to be fueled. I carb the night before with pasta and don't do any eating during the race. At the water stops I always grab a glass and alternate between water and gatorade. NO EXTRAS SOCKS! At least I don't recommend them, because it tends to cut off circulation which is…

FOODS-- Load up on berries, carbs, protein. Runner's World.com has some other tips. SHOES- Get fit tested for the right pair to fit your stride. I like Nike and Brooks, but its all up to what fits you BAD HAPPENED- I hurt my IT Band. The hardest thing was just taking time off. SOMETHING LEANRED- How is important it is to…

Well the first 50lbs I lost right away in my boobs and face. My boobs said goodbye and i said hello to implants. It was my "reward." Since I can't lose those anymore I seem to be losing all over now.

Dito on the sugar free jello! Taste Good! I also bake cookies with splenda.

I have the same problem. Since this is something that I have had my whole life I don't know what it's like to lose without hypothyroidism. I know losing is difficult, but I think it is hard for everyone. I have been winning the weight loss battle since 2004 and it's been hard. Taking the medicaiton at the same time…

I actually have an IUD (which i recommend and you dont need to have kids first because i dont) but i am also on seasonal which you may get your period four times a year. I'm on it for acne, but I dont have any side effects.

Remember this.... Whether you are running or walking the number of miles you complete is the same. If I run 4 miles at a 7mph and burn 475 calories it would be the same if I walked 4 miles. You take your weight times that by .72 and that is the number you burn per mile. I found this on runner's world and live by it. Hope…

also no gym required which means no waiting for a machine, no gym membership needed, and you can always find time. :)

Ok I totally know that not everyone is a runner or does not enjoy it, BUT it is such a great cardio workout that is so good for you and the best thing ever...YOU CAN DO IT ANYWHERE! No matter how cold, raining, hot, humid and so on running can be done. Or if you don't like that idea you can always walk. Just my thought. I…

I use runnersworld.com, runningintheusa.com. I also use a couple sites that Minnesota specific, which I am sure you can find for where you are at. Great to hear you are thinking about doing a 5k. Running is amazing and racing is even better. Good Luck to you and your journey!
