  • Ah, the hunger thing, now THAT is an issue for me and always has been! I don't know if I am hungry, or bored, or thirsty, and learning how to discern that is a challenge for me. Right now the only way I am beating that is to find foots that are lower-calorie or more satisfying to eat, and learning to allot some calories…
  • "basal is what you would burn in a coma, so don't worry too much about that." Cool, I didn't know that! So in other words, ANY activity I perform during the day will add to that number? Just sitting at a desk typing at a computer or walking to the car? And then so when I work out, say the half-hour on the treadmill is over…
  • Are you sure that the gym would maybe allow you to put your membership on hold for the month, for religious reasons, and then maybe just do low-intensity walking during the observance?
  • Look at web pages like If it fits your macros (iifym.com), you can calculate how many calories but also protein, carbs, fat, etc. are appropriate for someone of your weight, age, and activity level. This gives you a better idea of what will satisfy your body's need for nutrition. For example, if someone was on 1200…
  • Last winter I started driving a manual transmission, and had to move the seat forward so my foot would reach the clutch! That meant my stomach was pressed right up against the steering wheel when I had a coat on. This winter, at 45 (!) pounds lighter, my stomach is a couple of inches back from the steering wheel...way more…
  • I'm going to re-read this at home tonight and memorize all these awesome comments. At work just now, I got put down by my boss, who is COMPLETELY out of shape -- one of my OH HELL NO moments. I think one of my reasons for wanting to get in shape so I can intimidate him without saying a word. Last night I tried the…
  • I've read that IF will cause your body to reset and then will burn fat more efficiently (sorry I don't have the references here). It took me about three days to become acclimated to it, and during that time I was counting the minutes until I could eat lunch at 11 a.m. Now I have coffee only for breakfast (with a bit of a…
  • I appreciate everyone's posts, even though I am not the OP. Speaking of which, how can it be that everyone is putting in so much work to post so many thoughtful and helpful replies, and then the OP never returns (I know we can see if they read), replies, or opens their diary either?? I've seen lots of posts like these.…
  • Also if you're able, take tape measurements. After I'd lost 15-20 pounds I only saw a drops fractions of an inch, but it was enough to convince me it is working! (I probably need to do another measurement soon...) Hang in there, you are doing fine! And try not to get discouraged.
  • Thanks for your response! I am working through 3-4 Zumba classes/week at a local gym and will start weight training this week (all cardio and no weight training makes JeanStudies a very flabby girl...). Thanks also for the encouragement. I'm down about 22 since Feb of this year and will keep at it.
  • I completely get that. If the person comments then you have to decide whether to stare them down, or just laugh it off! If they are paying for the meal, you have to assume that they want you to enjoy it (and for it to be healthy for YOU). If they were so rude as to question or berate you about it then that is another…
  • I am very impressed that you are doing Insanity! No, I don't think this ONE meal really matters...but all the OTHER meals do. I looked at the website (http://www.nandosperiperi.com/menu), and it looks like a half chicken is about 500 cals, and the Butternut Squash and Grilled Corn side is under 200 (or a salad for waaaay…
  • That is a very interesting question. I think, emotionally I would not want to walk into a class that was labelled "for obese people," (too embarrasing), but I have been in classes in which the instructor went waaaaay out of her way to accommodate people like me who were new or not as flexible. At my old gym one leader was…
  • 1: "I have a fantastic nutritionist who I meet with every two weeks" If you were sick for months, and your doctor wasn't doing anything to help, would you call your doctor "fantastic"? :grumble: 2: Maybe try pre-packaged/frozen foods for a few weeks, and eliminate the possibility that you are mis-measuring. I know, I know,…
  • Pretty amazing results!!! May I ask, how long did it take you to accomplish? I have just started Zumba classes, literally just two weeks ago and am still adjusting to eating more-but-not-too-many calories to compensate. I'll also look into the Exhilarate tapes. Thanks!
  • Bump to read all these studies later....
  • These are all great points, the main issue for me is, "what will *I* do after I get down to my GW??" I appreciate general statistical research, but there are always outliers -- and I will have to work to be one of those! I also had to laugh, because (at least a few second ago), the post immediately below this one was "4…
  • I have a wimpy palate, can you tell me if I omit the red pepper flakes if it will still be very hot (spicy-hot, not heat-hot). Sounds like a great recipe!
  • Bump. Too much information to digest (haha) on a Monday morning, will google later. Yeah, what is laban?? Thanks so much!
  • Yum! Now, where do I find the 434 calorie 10-minute cardio exercise??
  • I am SOOOO envious of you right now! I am still in 2X and 3X and I yearn to get back to the days of 16/XL. It may be that, as some have suggested, you will have to try shopping in different stores until you find one that fits your (new!) shape better. Different companies tend to make different fits. I really like Fashion…
  • My two favorite words, together: lazy and, eat! Sounds great, thanks as well for the youtube video (rather reminds me of peeps-in-the microwave videos):smooched: . Thanks!!
  • I'm on the other side of the pond here and so am unfamiliar with Just Eat, but my preference is always forChinese. I generally have just a half cup of the accompanying rice, and enter the calories for the rest, which ends up being less than pizza. Enjoy!
  • Thanks so much! You're very kind, no discouragement taken and you did not come across negatively at all. I have been out of shape for so long (over 15 years), and when I can't keep up in Zumba I have this sort of shuffle-shuffle-left-right bounce-bounce (without feet leaving the ground) thing that I do. And I try to…
  • Wow, you have just proved beyond a shadow-of-a-doubt that ANYBODY else's excuse for not losing weight is c__p! Great Work!
  • Thanks! But, I didn't say I looked GOOD doing it, just that I DID it. :grumble: About ten minutes in to it, I not to look at myself in the mirror anymore. After that I started having a lot more fun!
  • Nice work, keep it up!!! But stop petting red crates, they could be dangerous!
  • This. I am very very bad at sticking to a diet/fitness routine (and I've learned I do best with external motivations), and so I told my boyfriend I was going to do this. I would hate to look like I am not sticking to this again. Also, I picked a gym that is close to my office, and I packed more than one set of tee…
  • One question, how many cookies does this recipe make? Four egg whites are about 65 calories (and the splenda in that quantity also has some calories) so just looking for the totals. Thanks so much!
