Ah, well it is good then that you've got the best doctor. I had some surgery a long time ago when I was about your age and they said "this guy is the best" and it turned out he was...I haven't had a bit of trouble since!
-
That doctor doesn't seem like he has much feeling for what you're going through. If he feels that way, then would you be able to insist that he give you a way to **safely** accomplish that? (I think I remember you said earlier that your doctors are not providing any help for weight loss, yes?) His just telling you "go do…

I was never that good with my eating either, and so for me I figured out I needed some external motivation or feedback. I found for me that 1) logging calories in MFP and seeing they were below/at my limit, 2) keeping track of my measurements so I could see I was getting smaller, and 3) logging my workouts so I could see I…

Woo-hoo! That's one pound you'll never see again...this is a very good thing!

First off, "WOOT WOOT!!" Second, yep, my scale will also vary, what I do is follow scientific procedure and take multiple measurements (like you did) until I get two that match. Digital scale results, except for the VERY expensive ones, will vary depending on how you stand, where you stand on the scale, etc. etc. I'd say…

Yep, most oils (at least the ones I use) are 100 calories/tablespoon and that is not a neglible amount. I've taken to grilling my chicken and steak. I also just bought an immersion cooker, which cooks very evenly without drying, and doesn't require grilling or any fat at all. (If you cook steak that way it needs to be…

Over two and a half years I've lost a 100 pounds and went from a 24W to a 14/16. So yes, I've definitely donated a LOT of clothes. I would suggest put the too-big nice stuff in boxes or crates and wait a few months to see if you still don't want them. Most of my bigger stuff was cheap and ugly so it was an easy decision.…

@bjcrewe good on you for doing this and for posting, that takes personal strength and courage...which is to say those same qualities will eanble you to reach your goal. I am down about 100 pounds in 2 1/2 years, it took longer because I am older and a woman and my metabolism doesn't respond as quickly as a younger guy's…

To disable negative adjustments go to the Food heading and then Settings. On that menu, under the "Calorie Adjustments" heading on the left, there is a checkbox titled "Enable Negative Adjustments" that I think is selected by default. If you haven't already, try unselecting that.

Pasta and ramen noodles, and peanut butter. The last two especially, since it takes so little time from preparation to cheating with them on my diet.

When I've had fried foods at some fast food (or fast sit-down) restaurants in the past, sometimes I've gotten get a weird greasy sensation on my tongue as well. I think there is some sort of chemical that they put in the frying grease, so that it wont absorb the taste of the food. Did you eat anything that could have been…

As the Aussies say, "Good on you!!" It's intimidating to start but you WILL succeed. Over two 1/2 years I dropped 100 pounds, and you will likely take MUCH less time to do that! :-) I can't tell you how much better I feel! Sounds like the hospital folks took a bad attitude with you and gave you very simplified advice. If…

If you google "International Delight single serve half and half" you will see pictures of the containers. They are 10 calories each, but they have a pitifully small amount of liquid in them, so one ends up adding two or three to one cup of coffee, which adds up. That said, I spent a delightful week in France earlier this…

This. A whole lot of "I deserve..." statements without the most important one: "I deserve..." to look the way I want, and feel the way I want. Which for me is to be thin, and to feel healthy and strong. Thank you, this post and the responses have helped me a LOT.

"I helped build up this startup to some extend and right now they are in no position to lose me. I started working there as part of my PhD, but got more into it because I like the people and it used to be easy enough. Now I am preparing my way out, but it is a long way to go. I don't want them to crash land for my sake."…

Are you able to hire a trainer for a couple weeks, to get some input? I did high reps/low weight for a long time but I believe that building up more muscle mass has helped my weight loss. Just a thought.

Ahahaha, these are great! Especially the chicken "beast" (probably would be very large though....). I read about another item "Tears of my Enemies" on another post. Zero calories, but I'm guessing the sodium is pretty high on that one. B)

This. I always broil mine after slicing horizontally and have had excellent results.

Yes, oh golly yes! I am down about 45 pounds since last summer (90 total over two+ years, yay!) and although Washington-area 90 degree temperature/90% humidity still feels awful, I no longer want to die when I am walking around...and I can walk around now!

"I'm talking about how I will feel about myself looking back on photos and I will still have to contend with my mother commenting on my weight..." ALL THOSE would make me dread a family event, especially one where you feel like you are being paraded around and judged! You will be able to look back on the photos later when…

First, thanks for the work you are doing! I'm sure you're bringing a lot of support to folks going through the biggest challenge of their lives. And, I'm guessing it is stressful for you. Perhaps you could acquire a foam cooler to store more stable veggies and friit? See if you can make friends with the cooks/waitstaff…

There are patterns for skirts and slacks that are very simple to make and involve only two or three major seams. I think the fit of a skirt or slacks are less forgiving, whereas I can wear looser tops and dresses. If you can find an inexpensive or used sewing machine (Sears Kenmore are the best ones) and can put some time…

I understand that your family didn't mean to be mean, but as someone whose mother said -- EVERY time I was walking out the door -- "you're not going to wear THAT, are you!?!?" (yikes!) it can have a negative effect and probably was really really hurtful to you. I added emphasis because those words may have become a deep…

I'm 5'4" but at 215-220 I don't look "petite", "small", or "delicate" and, I wasn't having any luck getting big strong men to do things for me either. But then I hit on an idea, and started watching old (like 1940s and 50s) movies with movie stars whose body types and personalities I thought favored mine. I notice, some of…

I don't understand what MFP is trying to accomplish with negative calorie adjustment, but I turned it off because it was negating the value of the exercise calories I'd burned. You can, by going to My Home, Diary Settings, and then unchecked "Enable negative calorie adjustment." Regarding the difference in calories for…

Yeah, my worry was, that I won't feel satiated on fewer calories when I am at a lower weight. I do expect to have to adjust slowwwwly to maintenance when I get to my goal. And I am guessing I will still need to keep up a rather rigorous workout schedule. But if what many of you are saying is that I will likely not be as…

Oooh, that sounds encouraging Victoria_1024! I didn't mention in my original post is that I do work out pretty hard now, 3-5 days/week (still figuring out what will work for me there), which I never did before. So hopefully that will give me a similar, if less intense (since I am older) result as you are getting.
-
This, thanks. I have learned enough to lose 50+ pounds so far, but you're right that I don't really know what hunger feels like. So I have more to learn. Ah well, better late than never!

I think each board reader has to decide how other posters affect them. Yeah, about a year ago I would have been really hurt if Tedebearduff had said this to me. But NOW? Oh yeah, I need NEED to hear this. I am SO different (maybe older/younger, tougher/wimpier, slower/faster metabolism, better/worse at resisting trigger…
