I agree with the above, find a rack... otherwise you will have to OHP it over your head back to your chest... which sounds dangerous after you're exhausted from squatting. Plus you should be taking breaks between sets and don't want to be standing around with a barbell on your back. Finally, for most of us, we eventually…

If I can do it in South Texas summer at 105 and 90% humidity, you can do it in Tennessee too...

I keep deodorant, dry shampoo, baby wipes, a brush, and body spray in my gym bag... works wonders!

Are you eating anything before you workout? I find a pre-workout snacs can do me wonders in terms of pushing through an intense workout; my favorite is a half of an English muffin with 10 - 15 grams of peanut butter. You can also do a little snack during the workout if it is extremely intense (think Gu (eww in my opinion),…

I prefer outside but live in South Texas, so in deep summer I use the treadmill a lot to beat the heat. Some people don't seem to take issue with the heat, but I do. I also like the treadmill for speedwork so you can be absolutely sure how fast you are going. But in general, outdoor runs on a soft surface beat all else.

yeah - notice all athletes and movie stars, etc all have nice abs - it's not because they all have the same workout secrets, its because they all have low body fat. as many have said before me, abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.

Well this seems counter-intuitive then doesn't it - if you're storing things far from your organs wouldn't you put them in your feet and hands? I know plenty of diet soda drinkers with six pack abs - so I would ignore this advice and listen to those telling you that you can't spot reduce and need to lose more fat. We all…

We can't be your will-power for you. If you want to lose weight you have to learn how to control yourself. I suggest doing some research, finding foods you like that fill you up and planning ahead. Cereal or a muffin is not "bad" - it just is what it is. If that's what leaves you feeling full, then so be it. I would…

Thanks GreenNetha1! I am definitely feeling it all today - am planning on just doing 20 minutes of intervals at lunch and leaving it at that - will wait to steady state again until Saturday! It seems we all agree that lunges are the worst! And I have to say, my abs are still sore from prone jackknife on Monday - which I am…

If your doctor says it's ok (which you obviously stated and all these peeps can't seem to read) then good for you! I know my mom said she was actually thinner after both of her pregnancies than she was when she started, just because she wasn't hungry. She too was considered overweight or obese. Everyone is different. I say…

1200 calories is actually not that little for a sedentary person who is 5'0"... unfortunately for shorties, y'all don't need as much food as those who are tall, yet everyone is often served the same sized servings. However, if you move more, you will get to eat more while still creating that deficit. I'm not sure what you…

So I started NROL4W on Monday. My stats are 5'6" 145 - mostly looking to lose a few lbs and definitely lose fat. Because I'm not a newbie lifter, I'm not likely to be able to really recomp, so I'm eating at a 500 deficit on off days and a 200 calorie deficit on lifting days and maintenance on weekend day a week so I can…

Like many others here I do measure them and note them in my calories. Ketchup is my biggest offended because I love it so much and it adds up quickly for me.
-
This is great! But hilarious! I hope I see you in my local grocery store!

Remember that MFP is setting you at a deficit, so as long as you're not eating above your maintenance, you should still be losing, just more slowly... I always try to remind myself of this when I go over, because I hate seeing the red. For instance, I have mine set at about a 500 calorie deficit, so if I go over by 200,…

It's definitely hard to get your head back in the game, but only you can truly want it for yourself! Every time you want to eat that fast food think of how you're going to feel the next morning when those jeans don't fit. Do whatever it takes to motivate yourself - put pictures up around your house of you at a healthy…

Aiming for 60 running and tons more walking/hiking!

I would not worry about it, at all. My guess is that you're new to this and you'll be glad to have those extra calories some days and not need them other days, as I think most of us have found over time. You're gonna have daily/weekly/even monthly fluctuations. I know I personally am starving days I lift, and could care…

Bites are tricky - they can be so innocent but jeeze they add up fast. The lick of the spoon can be any easily 25 calories, that tiny cracker with chicken salad sample at the grocery store can easily pack 50 or more calories, etc. I honestly try to avoid taking bites here and there during the week and then on the weekend…

Glad you like Yoga! In terms of exercise - I think sometimes those who don't exercise assume that those who do love it. In actuality, we don't a lot of the time, but we love feeling great afterwards. I don't wake up dying to go for a run or looking forward to lifting til I feel like my arms and legs are jello, but after a…

There are two schools of thought on this: 1. You can set your MFP to sedentary; this should lead MFP to guess your daily caloric burn and adjust from there according to your weight loss goals. With this line of thinking, then you can eat back your exercise calories, because they were not adjusted for in the sedentary…

129 is a great weight for someone your height! Start lifting heavy and you will notice some major changes in your body composition, even if you don't lose any more weight... although you may lose a little more. I definitely suggest checking our Stronglifts 5x5 or New Rules for Lifting - there's a girl version too, if you…

I completely agree with this - and wanted to add - I think a lot of non-runners think runners wake up and are just able to do it easily. I know A LOT of runners, and none of them think it's easy... while it may come slightly easier to some than others, in general those who are considered "runners" work at it, week in and…

Yes ! Don't hold on! It kills me when I see people holding on for dear life just to go a bit faster! It burns way less calories than it would if you would just let go and go a bit slower.

I have been running for years and some days it still sucks! During it... but after you feel amazing, without fail! I find when I'm getting back into the groove of running after a hiatus, it helps for me to set goals of time I'm going to run, rather than distance... at least at first. For instance, I'm going to run 10…

seriously - eat the cake. this is a lifestyle and if you can't see saying no to cake on your birthday for the rest of your life, then you need to learn how to fit it in this year too. just make it fit in your weekly goals either with more exercise or eating a little under for a few other days. or just have a cheat day - a…

Honestly I think ithames0810 said it best - we usually don't gain weight because our appetite is out of control and we're starving - we gain because we eat mindlessly or when we're bored and we don't move. suppressing your appetite won't help your urge to reach for the chips every time you watch TV, because you're not…

Unfortunately I have tried many in the past and they were all a waste of money. I never saw any difference at all, except maybe for the first day or two. Not worth it, IMO. What is worth it is lifting weights and running (again IMO... I know some hate cardio, but I enjoy it within reason), so you can eat more and don't…
