You're young. If you lose weight slowly (1/2 to 1lb a week) and do strength training exercises, you're very likely to not have to worry about loose skin. In fact, even for people who are older, this advice is very helpful; though they will be more prone to loose skin, strength training and slow weight loss will be a big…

I have one can about 4-5 days a week and am still losing weight. No it isn't healthy for you, but it's an enjoyable treat for me.

It is true that your body will want to keep weight it has, or regain weight it's lost. I don't know that it's so precise as to stay around a particular number, though. I'd wager that you probably won't plateau at 182 simply because your body was that weight for a while (though you may or may not coincidentally plateau…

I gain 1-3 pounds of water weight most months. Very common and nothing to worry about. Usually it goes away (and then some) once my period is over.

You're not crazy! I've done things like that. The other day I ate 3/4 of a portobello sandwich at a restaurant. And you bet your booty I'm not counting that last fourth!
-
You could try to eat less tomorrow, or work out a little more; it doesn't have to all even out though. It's ok to make a mistake now and again, so don't beat yourself up or anything. Just get back on track tomorrow.

Hi there, I have hypothyroidism as well. I'm on Synthroid (well, levothyroxine). I also went through something similar--I kept being put on antidepressants, and it took about 6 years for me to find a doctor who ran blood work to test for thyroid issues. The medication really helps; I've also found that regular exercise…

5 pounds a week is a little unrealistic. It sounds like you're doing all the right things... it's important to be able to live with your dietary and exercise changes for the rest of your life. And in life, there are times when we'll be tempted by things like enchiladas. If you want an occasional treat, eat it (for example,…

If people fail, it does *not* mean they are weak. Again, people are hardwired to gain (and keep) weight on their bodies. They are doing what nature is telling them to do. Yes, it is possible (and necessary) to overcome these natural urges to eat so much food that is bad for us. But calling people weak for not doing it is…

I had one for lunch, too! I didn't bring a lunch from home today... They are generally healthier than fast food. They're good for portion control tips, too, but are high in sodium.

I strongly disagree with this notion, and I think it's potentially harmful. Losing weight is a fight against our bodies and our brains, which are wired to gain and keep weight on, not lose it. Sometimes people don't understand what is necessary to make changes, or they set incredibly unrealistic goals (like losing 100lbs…

Aha! "Dinner medals"! Never heard that before, but I love it.

I certainly can understand giving up. People set expectations too high or don't find realistic goals for themselves; people burn out after a lot of hard work for what they perceive as little payoff; other parts of life get bad, and taking care of oneself gets put on the back burner. No one is perfect and it's hard to make…

Perfection is impossible for humans to attain, plus it is subjective; it is not the ideal I want to strive for. It's important to strike a balance between ambitious and realistic, since for many people (including myself), a huge disappointment could lead to completely giving up. That is why instead of saying "I want a…

Portion size, definitely. My partner eats a whole lot more than I do! I often eat the same things, just smaller! Like half a portion for me, and then I'll fill the rest of my plate with vegetables.

I don't follow any diet. As long as I stay within my daily allotted calories and get a little exercise at least 5 days a week, I'm happy. That is not to say I eat a bunch of junk food all day, because I LOVE fruits and veggies! But I still eat little treats now and again (and today and yesterday I've been feeling yucky, so…

I LOVE food. And a wide variety of it! Feel free to have a look at mine.
-
That is cool--I'm jealous, wish we had one around! :)
-
That is exactly the attitude that will make you successful! It's impossible to change overnight, but we all have to start somewhere. And "start" is the key word--you've already taken those difficult "first steps" and that's always the hardest part. Make slow changes; for instance, to start with, you might try eating one…

The fact that you're questioning it means you're not silly.
-
That's silly. Even if fiber retains water, it's just going right out of your body anyway. Don't pay that "advice" any mind.
-
Your cycle is thrown way out of whack on any hormonal contraceptive. Even on the pill, the bleeding is just from withdrawal of hormones, not from the actual menstrual cycle. You probably wouldn't have the typical week of water weight gain, since you don't have a "cycle" per se.

I keep mine open. This thread convinced me: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/158378-keepin-it-open-your-food-diary-that-is

You're within your calorie limits, and that's a great start. But eating breakfast is VERY important; you should try not to skip it. At least eat a banana, or a single hardboiled egg, or a handful of nuts. I recommend more fresh fruits and vegetables too. What you eat can be pretty important to weight loss, but what you eat…

Maybe, but since you're young, it's less likely. Do a strength training regimen while you lose weight to help prevent loose skin. Stick to your calorie goal, exercise as much as you're able, eat as many "healthy" things (fruits, vegetables, nuts, lean meats) as you can. Really it's that simple. Go walking 20-30 mins a day,…

Oh yeah. I have to buy new clothes every 4 months or so... Goodwill and thrift shops are my friend! Both for giving and getting... :)
-
How many calories are you eating in a day? Try never to go under 1200 net calories or your metabolism may slow. Also, how long have you been at it? Sometimes it takes your body a while to get used to the changes you've made, and weight loss may not happen right away. Try giving it a little more time, and be sure to take…

Yes, definitely nuts, and peanut butter!

I usually go for vodka with a little club soda and lime. Vodka is about 70 calories per shot (give or take). A bloody mary is about 125 cals too.

Sounds like it is working well for you, and since you're under doctor supervision, I wish you the best of luck! And again, welcome! :flowerforyou:
