I try to figure out as close as I can how much I ate, but I don't worry too much about how much over I go (although it is an eye opener at times). I look at it this way, I am not going to stop doing the things I enjoy. If I am good about what I eat 5 days a week, it is better than the 1 or 2 days a week that I was before.…

I have cottage cheese almost every morning...sometimes I just have a carnation breakfast drink. Good protein and fair calories.

We've been eating a lot of chicken and I came across this...on here I think. It's pretty good. http://www.skinnytaste.com/2012/04/cheesy-jalapeno-popper-baked-stuffed.html

I won't say I feel fat, or think I look much different, but like was mentioned above, I can do a hell of a lot more now than I did 6 months ago. I still weigh myself every day, but don't worry too much about what it says. I get up every morning and run 3 miles, and every morning it gets easier. I can do more push-ups every…

Daily, but like everyone has said, be prepared to see the numbers go up and down. I usually only log once a week though. Fridays normally.

I'm with you...I read all the time "treadmills are boring....have to run outside, treadmills are too easy..." yada yada yada. And I thought I had a short attention span. Don't get me wrong, I would rather run outside also, but it isn't always an option, and running on a treadmill is better than doing nothing.

This is what I did...I started last October on the treadmill and had never heard of C25K. I walked for 10 minutes, ran as long as I could, then walked till I had been on it for 30 minutes. I gradually got to where I was walking 5, running/jogging (4mph) for 20, then walk for 5. After I got to where that felt comfortable, I…

You are exactly right. I am out of town at least once a month and I've noticed that I tend to order a lot lighter than I used to. I decided when I started all this that I wasn't going to let a "diet" run my life. I still go out and enjoy myself on occasion, but I always come back to eating right....or at least better.

I've been on the treadmill every morning since last October and finally got a chance to run outside a few weeks ago. I was surprised at how much faster pace I kept outside. I think starting out on the treadmill for so long has helped my form. Years ago I used to run occasionally, all outside, and my shins would kill me. I…

I started running on the treadmill last October and never ran outside all winter. A couple weeks ago we had a fairly nice day so I decided to try out my new legs and see what I could do outside. I normally do 3 miles on the treadmill at a 12 minute mile pace. I decided that I would start out at 2 miles for my first outside…

Running (or any exercise) won't make you lose weight. It will however burn calories, and that will result in weight loss as long as you take in less than you burn. That being said, I have been using running as my main form of exercise. Between that and cutting back on my calories, I have lost 25 pounds since 10/12. So far…

For those of you that have upped your calorie intake from MFP suggested amounts, how long did it take for you to see results? I've had good results staying "around" the recomended amounts, and I hate the thoughts of changing it up.
-
I'm one of the ones that won't see results if I eat back all the calories burnt by exercise. Might be a number of different reasons, but none the less, it doesn't work for me. My suggestion would be to try eating all the recomended calories, if you don't see results, cut back a little. Don't expect results overnight, or…

Sunflower seeds, in the shell. They do a great job of keeping me busy.

After reading all the crap about having someoen fit you for shoes, I went to a very reputable running store and had them do their thing. I walked out with a new pair of shoes that fit well, don't hurt my feet and feel comfortable. As a matter of fact, they feel just like the old pair of Reeboks that I picked off the shelf…

Wait, you say eat above your BMR, then you say to eat a deficeit? BTW...My BMR is a touch over 2000, if I eat to include my exercise I end up at over 1700. That is a deficeit of just under 1000 (recomended by MFP). If I keep my deficeit closer to 1400, then I lose. We aren't talking about cutting your calories in half...we…

My suggestion would be to not listen to all the "internet experts" and try one thing for a while and see what works for you. For me, if I eat what MFP tells me I should, I don't lose. If I stick to what I am supposed to eat without exercise, I lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. I'm not saying that you will be the same, but if you…

Actually, that isn't completely correct...a pound of gold is measured in Troy pounds, which weighs less than a "normal" pound. So by definition, a pound of gold is lighter. What weighs more...feathers or lead? Fat or muscle?
-
I don't "need" it, but I do like it. It's funny, I sit and drink it all day, every day, but if I go out of town for a few days, I can go without and never miss it.

Well, I got to run in my new shoes a couple times. I hope it is just that they are new/different, because I have muscles that are sore, that have never been sore. Still no joint pain though.
-
I also have exercise induced asthma. As a teen it was real bad, but now it really only flares up if I over exert in the cold weather.

30 minutes is fine if that is all you feel comfortable with...that's where I started, and just progressivly worked my way up. And don't worry about the speed. Go at one speed till you feel like it is getting too easy, then either up the speed or increase the incline a little...again, till it feels too easy, then increase…

I tried on 4 different pairs of shoes and I was surprised at the subtle differences. I ended up getting a pair of Saucony Progrid Guide 6's. They feel a lot difference than my old ones...hopefully they allow me to continue to run pain free.

Thanks for all the info. I feel like I at least have half an idea of what to ask when I go to get fitted.
-
I've been at it for about 3 months now and didn't know about the C25K or anything like that. I just started walking on the treadmill. After a few days of not being sore the next day, I started walking the same amount of time, but faster...then a little faster...till I was walking for 10 minutes, then run at a slow pace for…

Personally I refuse to give up anything completely. I still eat chips, ice cream and fries...even hot wings (my downfall)...just a lot smaller portion than I used to. I don't think I could stick with this change in lifestyle, for a lifetime, if I couldn't have what I wanted. One thing I have started is when I get hungary…

Thanks, I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around the minimalist idea. I couldn't imagine running in my bare feet. I always thought more cusion was better.

Thanks. Yea, we travel at least 20 miles just to get groceries, so Indiana is't "that" far. Although, my daughter is an athletic trainer at Penn State and I had her ask the trainer for the track team and there is a place over there that has a good reputation for runners. Looks like I may be in luck. Now I just have to…

thanks...I'll give them a look.
