1000 Calories will cause your body to store fat. I started 3 years ago at 263lbs., I'm 5'8". I set my Starting calorie goal to 1400 calories and started walking every day. I started at 1 mile per day and worked up to 5 miles per day. I ate/eat a lot of high fiber foods, fish, chicken and any and all green vegetables. It…

Yes, it's syncing steps but not showing calorie burn?

It worked one day for me, and now not syncing again :( I don't want to have to unlink, deactivate, and re-link everyday!!!

I was 270 lbs. at 5' 8" when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am now at 160 lbs. While I still take Metformin 1000 mg daily, my fasting blood sugar is in the 70's and I have more energy than I did when I was in my 20's. I don't count carbs, just net calories and I walk 5 miles daily.

This was the best post I've read on this site since I started. Thank you.

I enjoy oatmeal with almond milk and a little sugar free syrup :)

I also use Fitbit, and love it. Make sure you go in to your MFP settings and click on allow negative adjustments. This helps you to get a realistic calories burned from your Fitbit activities. "Good Luck"

All of the comments are spot on. Lifestyle vs. Diet is how you keep from gaining back the weight. When I reached my goal, I was so afraid to go in to maintenance mode in fear that I would start gaining. I changed my settings to Sedentary (Even though I'm very active) to help offset upping my calorie intake. I will never…

Dave, you have already cleared the tallest hurdle (Commitment) just take it 1 day, 1 meal at a time. I was in the same boat, weighing in at 263lbs. and fighting type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Good Luck!!!

First, take a deep breath. This is a marathon and not a sprint. When I started, I set my profile to sedentary even though I work a physical job. I gave up sugary drinks for water and unsweetened tea. I don't go to the gym, but I wear a fitbit tracker and walk 5 miles a day. You have to find what works for you. Do some…

Make sure you go in diary settings and enable negative adjustments. This will give you a true estimate of the difference of your calories in vs. calories out.

Funny how judgmental some people on here can be when it wasn't that long ago that they were new here, and asking questions about net calories etc...

Me to, I love the fitbit one. It really motivates you to walk extra steps or climb stairs which adds up to a healthier you.

I had lost 50 pounds after finding out that I had Type 2 Diabetes. I joined MFP just before the 2012 Thanks Giving and Christmas Holidays to make sure I kept my focus on my weight loss. I have since learned a lot about how to balance nutrition and fitness as well as how to eat and be happy. I am now at 105 pounds lost.

Hi, I started out in 2012 with a goal to lose 100 pounds before I turned 50. I am male 5' 8" and was 263lbs. when I started. When I started, I decided to make small sacrifices and build on them. I gave up Diet Coke and started drinking only Water and Un-Sweetened Iced Tea. I started walking a few minutes each day, and have…

After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure my 2 boys told me they were worried that one day when they were married and had kids, they their kids wouldn't have a grandfather.
-
I stopped cold turkey in 2012. It was the first thing I did at the start of my weight-loss journey. I drink water and un-sweetened ice tea. You will see a huge reward over time if you do quit it.

I personally don't allow myself cheat days. It's to easy for me to lose focus on my goals when I do. It's hard at the start of your weight loss journey, but trust me that it gets easier. Good luck!!!
