To all of the people saying the text in the OP was just a way to give respect and thumbs up to someone - no it explicitly wasn't, it was a spoof of an original post written by someone somewhere on the net to encourage their friend to run. Read up the links posted earlier in the thread! The original letter was about the…

Interesting. I weigh everything but constantly test my eyeballing skills so this was food for thought. It's worth to note that hand/fist size varies greatly with bone structure, pudginess, etc. For me a rounded handful is half a fist, for another it might indeed be equal to a fist. ETA: very obese people can have tiny…

I really hate the original. How nauseatingly patronizing. Guess what, I don't need to be "inspired", I inspire myself. And the fact that whoever composed this thought it was at all appropriate to bring up the other person's weight shows how skewed their thinking is. The whole thing just reinforces the idea that fat people…

You don't say how many calories you are eating a day and what your deficit is, which is the single most important factor - if you eat too little, you will feel always hungry; too much and you won't lose. If you're eating predominantly fruit and vegetables then it's very possible you feel full right after meals and hungry…

Me too. Also, I like knowing I have a reasonable amount of calories every day and don't have to work out in order to "earn" more food. I work out for fun and maintaining lean mass instead.

Totally me... MFP helps a lot but mostly I deal with it 2 ways: - pull myself together and remind myself food isn't going to help with the anxiety source, so better face up to that source (whatever is stressing me at the moment ) and tackle it like a big girl - If I am not up to tackling it for some reason, remind myself I…

Actually for me it's the opposite - I've tried both and prefer a bigger plate, then I load some salad on that too with my main course and it looks like the lot of food it actually is. Putting my food on smaller plates feels like deprivation, or eating a kid's portion. There are all sorts of psychological tricks, but…

Crystalstinson7, from what I've read, it's not so much that you fill it in (you can't) but that you can get very lean this way, and then the loose skins is much less noticeable because it doesn't hang at all (skin which hangs still has quite a bit of subcutaneous fat under it).

That was very interesting information to read... Can't join you because I keep a small pantry and everything in it gets eaten up (or the freezer, or the fridge), but you ladies are such a great change from posts by people who brag about throwing the peanut butter jar in the trash after eating a spoonful so they won't…

Tl;dr - link to the actual study (probably) mentioned in the article at the bottom. ETA: EvgeniZyntx has beaten me to it, and he found the one in AJCN. Bonus - we know have two studies to discuss... /ETA This article is entirely useless since it's written in magazine-speak. Useless to defend because it's not clear what it…

I did not see anywhere how much you are losing and how overweight you are, OP. I have a different suggestion for you - go by how much you lose and not how many calories you *think* you have left as long as you're estimating. The reason people get into your diary is not to be mean but because they don't want to completely…

While I understand your frustration and agree it's not a good indicator for very athletic people, may I respectfully disagree with your title statement? I read a discussion elsewhere on the net literally just 3 minutes ago in which someone very obese (BMI over 35, not at all athletic) refused to accept the fact because…

The more you rely on laxatives, the more your bowels will become lazy. The way to achieve a daily bowel movement naturally is not through a dehydrating laxative tea but the very opposite - making sure you are very well hydrated and having enough fiber and fat in your diet. ETA: It's a bit like losing weight actually -…

This^^ Also, "cleaning you out" is completely unrelated to burning calories and losing fat. Pointless pain that will not leave you any leaner, just badly dehydrated and possibly with severely irritated bowels.

This, so much this. It gives so concisely what I was trying to express in my last paragraph above.

Can I give you a tip of the hat and a hearty handshake for that post? I cringe every time someone chimes "Calories are not created equal". Yes, they are! They are a measurement unit created by people, they are equal *by design*! Nutrition is not equal, nobody argues with that. But if there was any real evidence for doshas…

Tea is a common migraine trigger, not just because of the caffeine but also because of the tannins (many people think green tea doesn't contain them but it does). You could try a herbal tisane instead.

I don't have specific recipes, just a rule of thumb of ~30g of protein for lunch + some type of carb and veggies, keeps me full on ~400 calories or thereabouts. For lunch recipes specifically, check out the bento lunch thread at "Recipes" board - it has a wealth of easily packable, low-cal lunch foods, you don't need the…

Welcome back! Many of us have given up at some point and then come back for good. You can do it!

Jellied real fruit (fresh or canned, with its own syrup) is just as easy to prepare as commercial mixes and infinitely tastier. You can add cinnamon or other spices to it too. Definitely liw-cal, low-fat. But fir me personally, the best low-calorie dessert is a small amount of a high-calorie dessert :)

What I am more frustrated by is how expensive good-fitting clothing is for larger people. I was able to find nice clothes even at size 18w but it breaks the bank every time. I think if your figure is non-standard in any way, it is almost impossible to find flattering clothes at places like Walmart for obvious reasons -…

Bump because more people should read this awesomeness.

I've lost 20 so far, ~70 to go. I lift 3x a week and do cardio up to 3x a week for 30min; my so-called rest day usually ends up a hike or in the winter, skating in the park, whatever fun is available outdoors that season. I never worry if I miss the cardio because it's primarily to make my heart and lungs healthier, not…

I don't really know but have you tried pine/spruce tip "honey"? I grew up with that stuff, it's amazing in tea and tastes good on pancakes too... Unfortunately my grandma never passed on the recipe :( I just remember it involves boiling the tips to a syrupy consistency. If anyone happens to have a recipe, please please…

Kind of obvious, but it sounds like at Easter you weighed yourself on a different scale than now (in your parents' house)? So one of them could very very easily be wrong. May be double-check elsewhere? By the reported loss in inches, I am assuming your parents' scale was lower than real. Add to that that if you weighed…

Totally agree one would get hungrier faster on the watermelon. Muscle and fat - you are confusing the question a bit I think. She asks how 100 cal is different from 100 cal (energy measurement) - same as how 1lb is different from 1 lb (weight measurement) - a question often used to confuse school age kids for fun, at least…

By the way I thought it was another one of those threads by former Weight Watchers people who just discovered fruit is not "free" ...

Digestion process? You wouldn't dabsorb the vitamin A from the watermelon without fat, because it's fat-soluble. If you had balanced your calories between the two, you'd be much better off. You would also get hungrier faster after the fat-free meal. Seriously, a balanced diet is your best bet to be able to keep it up and…

You don't build up muscle on a deficit... And I don't think that's what the OP was asking?

I decided not to keep a private circle of "friends" and have posted this on my profile but every so often I get requests. My rule of thumb is for every declined request, I take 5 sec and send them a personal message thanking them for the request and explaining why I can't accept. I think this would work well even if your…
