OP, it seems to me you are smart, strong and independent and I know you will get through this. I am glad you dropped the jerk off, many people marry the wrong person bit by far not all have the courage to end it. I hope your sister is feeling better and I know and the toll all that fear takes on you, not to mention the…

Ha! I like mine with olive oil, especially if I have tomato on it, and the bliss is mopping off the juices at the bottom of the bowl with chunks of bread. If no tomatoes - olive oil with balsamic vinegar or lemon, salt and herbs depending on the salad. I loved pumpkin seed oil instead of olive oil but haven't seen it…

For everyone saying it doesn't *weigh* more, it's just more *dense* ... Density is *defined* as mass per volume, so yes, if it's denser, it does weigh more for the same volume! And I would never assume anyone above the age of 9 means by "x weighs more than y" anything other than "weighs more for the same volume". It's a…

Surviving till two Without coffee! A hero! But not for me, thanks.

This sounds exactly like what one would expect with serious water retention. The one serious thing to have in mind and get checked out with your doctor is kidney issues. They can and do sneak up on people, there may be no obvious symptoms like pain etc but bloating, especially in the face and ankles, could be a symptom. A…

Do you have Kinder Bueno chocolates in the US? The taste is basically the same. Or, if you ever come over to Canada, you can get them practically everywhere. Just don't try to transport them back across the border I guess.

All excellent ideas, I like the "use money as entry fee for races" best because it takes you to your next challenge :) Now I've officially weighed in, I can without shame ask my real question: is that the owl from the opening/ending scenes of "Labyrinth" in your avatar :) Hope you don't think I'm crazy, I just gasped when…

Hi five! That particular reddit changed my life. It should be required reading in high school with mandatory revision every few years or so :)

I wouldn't trust that scale completely. If you retain a lot of water, there will be other symptoms - do your shoes get a lot tighter at the end of the day than at the beginning? Do you wake up with a puffy face? Do your rings often feel very tight but not all days? Water weight and bloating vary in time so you should be…

Considering how rarely I have it (Subway 1-2x a month, burger joints more like 5-6x a year) I totally trust it, it's not worth bothering over. But what people above have said regarding the standardization of portions to keep profits consistent makes a lot of sense.

These people whose advice shocked you know what they're saying. The root of my weight gain was my mother's pushing me to lose weight. I know now that she did it because she was worried about my health, self esteem, etc. but the truth is that it always felt like I wasn't enough. Mothers are supposed to love you the way you…

This^^ And this^^ I hope the little misunderstanding b/n this user and the OP is cleared up. Heed her advice! You'll have a much pleasanter life if you do. PRMinx can I mentally shake your hand?

That whole post was excellent (good explanatory answer to the OP's question) but I couldn't help quoting this part because it is just... perfect.

If you're just worried about his health - that is his decision to make, you can help a little by cooking healthier things but you can't, and shouldn't, control his intake or exercise etc. Or is it a deeper problem within yourself? You mention shame and guilt. For me that is the much worse part than what you have labeled…

OP, I know you said you can't exercise, I am thinking though that if you can get to spend more time outside in the sun it might make you feel better? Even just lying on a picnic blanket in the park or sitting on the porch/balcony in the sun for a bit. I know CFS is a medical condition and don't recommend sunshine as a…

Activity has a lot to do with this. I am from Europe, I live in Canada, I still go back regularly. When I am back over there I walk *tons* more day-to-day, just to get around. Until you've lived in North America you really don't have a clue what the distances are here and how much of your movement is done in a car. In most…

Also, check out this topic - it has a simple and beautiful flow chart for evaluating a suspected plateau: community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10074119/weight-loss-flow-chart-feedback-needed

I have had periods of 2 weeks where I didn't seem to lose, weight fluctuated up-down. I actually am in one now. I wouldn't call that a plateau to be honest. I have had a smaller deficit these two weeks which contributes to slower weight loss, I seriously upped my lifting because I finally worked around an injury I had.…

Now I get it - the milestone is the occasion for that vacation... You had me worried there for a bit :)
-
Wow, I am confused... Are you saying you would postpone a holiday because you didn't hit a number by a date? Why sacrifice your vacation to that? Perhaps I am reading your post wrong...
-
Same with me. I always make it al dente, perhaps that's why? If it's more cooked it will expand more?

I think long term the best solution for you will be to learn to eat less of the same thing the family/your spouse is having. At least if you want not just to lose the weight, but to keep it off for life. I have learned to accept the fact that 10-20 homemade fries is all I can afford. For the third month going, I cook for…

In one of the stickies there is a link to "Important posts to read" and one of them is this: myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/823505-research-on-protien-intake I read the studies he references and for me there is convincing evidence that people who eat more protein while losing weight retain lean mass better (i.e. lose more…

I laughed so hard at this :D

That's true. But on the other hand, goal weight is just a number, I really have a goal "state" in mind with a certain level of fitness, health, fat% etc, so I think at the point where you are only a few lb away there are options: -Add a small additional deficit, as I think you're saying, to get down to weight faster -Try…

I am 218 now and plan to start in 2-3 weeks, as soon as the snow has cleared a bit and the temperatures are consistently above freezing (because Canada... But on the flip side, ice skating in the park all winter rocks!) I used to have plantar fasciitis (not from running) which has gone now with the weight lost, but to be…

Ooh yes stuffed vine leaves! How could I forget! And the spinach pies gave me an idea - I can just make a big spanakopita and cut it up. Have been wanting spinach for a while. Thank you guys! I hadn't realized it was a theme to be honest, but you're right, that whole region has great vegetarian options and finger-friendly…

I see your point. In the end, as so many people have said so many times, you have to want it badly enough. Part of the problem I think is "magical thinking" - we all have it as kids and mostly grow out of it as our reason develops, but I think some people suffer from its effects all their lives. Even when I didn't have…
-
I think it's a little less black and white than that for people. Many don't want a magic pill, just think that the effort they would need to put in would be inordinate and almost undoable. I though I would have to do tortuous amounts of physical activity and eat like a bird to lose weight. I only really felt it was…
