  • I am confused. Isn't what you are describing the exact opposite? Fancy store gets size 8 at the correct pattern size and then low end store cuts smaller clothes from smaller actual pattern, still labeled 8? So technically clothes would run small at low end store if that were true. Also highly unlikely to explain modern day…
  • I love this - totaly agree!
  • Just wanted to second this, that helped me too enormously. It's crucial you do it before you get out of bed, I kept a scarf by the bedside for that purpose. It has to be a passive stretch (the scarf pulls the foot, the foot doesn't actively move). There are a lot of video tutorials on that move on physiotherapy-related…
  • Snapea crisps or roasted seaweed from Costco, if I really need a processes snack. Or something small and delectable to satisfy cravings - most mini chocolates are around 80-100 calories, great for the afternoon coffee. Also, I know you aked for prepackaed but thought I'd share just in case - the thing that works best for…
  • There are even more pernicious errors. The title of the entry may be correct but the calories can be significantly off - different batches, Canada vs US product of the same company, etc. etc.
  • Deliberately incorporated walking (uphill, too) in my commute by picking my route and getting off the bus early. Overall I get 9 - 10 000 steps or so only from the commute, if I don't do any walking at lunch (and I normally do). This takes me right up there in lightly active despite my sedentary desk job. My history shows…
  • I prefer to eat my calories, not drink them (except for alcochol). So I don't do shakes. I am also one of thos people who don't see the point in smoothies. I found whey protein in yoghurt with some bran added makes a great snack for me at work, fills right up that little pit that forms between lunch and dinner.
  • For me it's protein and carbs/fiber, with the emphasis on protein. Volume eating (e.g. the way some people eat huge bowls of low calorie salad) does nothing for me except drive me nuts with frustration :) I agree that it matters for satiety, and clearly everyone is different but there seam to be a few patterns: either…
  • Amfmmama I don't think people are being negative, they are just watching out for her. If ssomeone starts out and doesn't understand about water weight they risk to fall off the wagon when the rate of loss slows down. People are just being helpful is all - also for the benefit of lurkers because not everyone who reads the…
  • In for the information. I had always just assumed that the body needs a certain amount of protein for functions more vital than maintaining muscle, so if it doesnt get it it would cani alize muscle to supply these other functions? Just googled quickly and this is from the Wikipedia entry for protein: "Proteins are also…
  • I have been there. I know it hurts but the truth is that it is just love. Not the kind of love I wanted to receive or needed at the time, and comments like these by my mom and feeling how much she wanted me to lose the weight and freaked out if I didn't actually stopped me from losing. But there you go - children (any age)…
  • How can this post get woo-ed?! OP, I second everything FlyingMolly said. Please seek professional help. What you are describing is unhealthy and destructive and you need to adress it. With help it can be done, I have seen posts by people here who have overcome eating disorders and then tackled the weight in a healthy way.…
  • I really did a fouble take at this post and it took me several reads to figure out what made you say that. FYI I think the poster meant that most nutrition coaches are clueless (I am taking that to mean clueless about MFP or simply lacking real qualifications).
  • I also work out in the morning. For the past two years, since changing jobs, was struggling to fit exercise in until it clicked that the only way to guarantee I'll get it in, is to get it in first thing in the morning. In my case that means getting up at 5:15 for a 30 min daily workout at home, but I know others who get up…
  • What exactly is happening in two weeks that makes you so fixated on that number, and why exactly 20 lb? As people habe said above, losing 20 lb of fat in two weeks is a physical impossibility, bar surgery. Losing 20lb of fat and water in that time is almost impossible, bar extreme illness. Could you be more flexible on one…
  • It is already set on sedentary. I just found my exact issue on page 13 of the FAQ - missing last sync of the day :( It's a bummer, I was hoping it was only me.
  • The timezpne idea is an interesting option, thanks! It doesn't only sync manually. Bluetooth is on anyway so it syncs when I open either app but also at some other times - I believe I read somewhere that Fitbit syncs to MFP after every 100 cal burned or so. But half the time the last sync (non-manual) is some time after…
  • @vangirly from my research, that's a known issue with all wrist-worn, non-HR activity trackers. It measures impact to count steps - no impact (because hand resting on a surface), no steps... it also affects people who do most of their walking pushing strollers for example. The clip is a good option, or you could get a…
  • I have ordered one which should arrive by the end of the week, will update in a couple of weeks to let you know. I have the impression that the above review was for Charge 2 not Flex 2... Flex 2 does not measure heart rate as far as I am aware?
  • That... That right there stopped my breath. Thank you for that whole post. It made such a great start to my day!
  • Isn't the fat content and hence the calories similar in all oils which would make substitution pointless for weight loss - or am I just showing my ignorance of different oils here... I generally fry or cook with sunflower oil or butter, and use olive oil as a condiment.
  • I think these are great tips! Prelogging definitely helps, exactly in the sense described in the quote above - seeing the calorie count of that second helping before you even put it on the plate definitely helps. And if you have the app on your phone, it is even possible to do a discrete approximate pre-log in social…
  • This is one of the top two things that come to mind. The other one is - don't restrict too agressively! This goes for calories as well as for types of food. When my deficit is moderate enough so that I can have a reasonable variety and quantity of food, I overeat much more rarely.
  • I think this is a remnant of a diet fad that used to be everywhere in te 90s... Long debunked. I think part of the reason it persists to this day is in the fact that ther is a tiny objective gain of truth - some foods make a bad pairing digestively for some people. (nothing to do with weight loss though). I personally have…
  • I am a little baffled by this. None of the things listed constitutes support in my opinion. Why should he do the same things you do or eat the foods you eat? To my way of thinking, support would be for example, him taking on more dutied at home so you have more time for walking/biking/whatever, him being discrete with any…
  • I am also confused what the problem is exactly. is it that: - you like fruit too much and want to be able to eat more of it? Pick lower-calorie fruit (berries are surprisingly few calories) so you can have more... And log it. - You are hungry all the time so need to eat more and think fruit is a "safe" way to fill up? It…
  • I don't use the phrase but I think I get the mindset. For example, I fully expect to eat like this all my life (if I can pull it off) - not at this level of deficit but at this level of calories. Because I am eating at the sedentary TDEE of my goal weight, so either that's all I get, or I need to move more to create room…
  • From your perspective @424a57, why is that? Lots of eating out? Food generally more expensive where you live? Throw out food a lot? Eat truffles/foie gras a lot? Life standard (costs and salaries) double that of other states? Just curious, I am not in the US so wondering what a double (or triple) difference can come from.
  • Type "Healthy eating on a budget" in the search (link to search is above the first post usually). I am on mobile so copy-pasting the result links is too much hassle. This forum is full of discussion threads with great advice on your topic. There is even a "healthy eats for cheap" group where you can swap ideas and recipes.…
