  • I missed a 115# snatch in a competition this weekend. Stupid snatch!
  • 30 second PR on Grace. 4:24 @ Rx!
  • The question that I ask is, do you want to get fit or do you want to get good at CrossFit? I think that a lot of people get caught up on getting good at CrossFit and loose sight of what their original goals are in the first place. There are a lot of good comments on this thread. And I am open to arguments on both sides and…
  • That is a tough one. I have had the same struggle. Apparently, belly fat is an indicator of insulin resistance. A low GI, or even lower carb balance of macros might help some. And of course, get whatever exercise and strength training that you can handle.
  • Benny Benassi. Awesome WOD song!

  • Some people have a compulsion towards eating just like others do to alcohol and drugs. In fact, I am somewhat familiar with the practices of Overeaters Anonymous and they encourage their members to make a list of specific foods and food behaviors that trigger the obsessive and compulsive behavior. For instance, a member…
  • Here is what works for me: Climb lots: in the winter we do a ride called "The Tour of Chapel Hills" where we hammer every steep hill we can find around Chapel Hill, NC. It is a 10 mile ride with as much climbing as some 50 mile rides I have done. Doing this really helped my efficiency and experience. Stay seated most of…
  • Several of my comments were deleted, then a topic I posted was deleted and now I am banned. Heh.
  • Yes and yes. Thanks for the input!
  • Look, the biggest naysayers of the Paleo diet are saying that our ancestors didn't really eat what we call "Paleo". Their diet was dependent on weather, geography, and that most of the foods that we consider Paleo, like super market sweet potatoes and apples didn't exist back then. But rarely do you see any criticism about…
  • Also, I thought about joining this group just to post, but this woman is looking for a fight. It isn't like any information that I could ever present to her will change her mind. I am going to keep an eye on it to see if the group grows. It could be entertaining.
  • All I see is an *kitten* that is completely defined by her hatred. She's right though. Half the people that I know that tried CrossFit are dead now.
  • They are the original minimalist athletic shoe. Zero drop and solid, stable sole for lifting. That said, I have tried CrossFit in Chucks and hated it. They are heavy and throw me off on running, box jumps, jumping rope. I prefer a lightweight shoe. If you are on a budget of $40 (which is questionable if you are paying out…
  • Wswwillams67 is right in that rope climbs can tear up a pair of shoes. I was fortunate enough to get over a year out of my first pair of Inov-8 195's. The new Inov-8's have a rope guard on them and should hold up for rope climbs. A brand that Reebok or Inov-8 that designs their shoes specifically with the rigors of…
  • I would just hold off on kipping in general until you can do about 5-7 dead hang pull ups. Your shoulders will thank you for it.
  • The issue is definitely a poorly fitting bike. You can permanently damage your ulnar nerve if you ride to much this way. I cannot emphasize enough the value of a professional bike fitting. You will ride longer and more comfortably with less effort with a good fit. I am not saying that this is you, but, I know so many…
  • Personally, I would not recommend bands for developing strength for pull ups. Here is what I have seen; someone new to the gym uses a red and purple band for doing pull ups because they cannot do a dead hang pull up. Over a period of time, say, 6 months, where initially they could only do 5 pull ups with the red and purple…
  • A good pair of all around CrossFit shoes are pretty much anything by Inov-8, also, the Reebok Nano's seem to be popular but in my opinion, not very stylish compared to Inov-8's. Also, the New Balance Minumus is pretty solid. Once you have a good pair of all around CrossFit shoes, you will want to look at some Olympic…
  • I see where you are coming from. There is definitely a formula somewhere (inverse square law?) I think, if I recall college math, if you want to go twice as fast you have to produce 4x the amount of energy. This is why my compact car with 120 horse power will go about 120 mph but a car with 400 hp will not go 400 mph,…
  • I am not quite sure that I understand the question. The top sprint speed or downhill speed on a bike is determined by how fast you can spin your legs in combination with the number of teeth on your big chain ring on your crankset. The big ring typically has much fewer teeth on a mountain bike vs a road bike so your cadence…
  • Minimalist shoes or lifting shoes? I have recommendations for both.
  • These are the workouts that you'll learn and grow from the most.
  • Lifting shoes have come a long way. There are the old school style that are good for nothing but lifting that have a thick solid wooden or hard rubber sole but those suck for CrossFit. Nike, Reebok and Innov8 make shoes that are much better for CrossFit. The rear of the shoes is just as stable and solid as the old style…
  • I have been out of the picture for a few months and have not experienced the CrossFit Troll. I am dying to know, what's the screen name?
  • I don't make any changes to my total calories on rest days vs. days I do CrossFit. Since the workouts are short in duration, there is no concern that I am going to "bonk" which happens my your body is depleted of glycogen. To exhaust glycogen, I personally find that it takes about 90-120 minutes of heavy cardio. I even do…
  • Man, I love them. A tablespoon of Kerrygold grassfed butter on each side, a generous sprinkling of cinnamon, and a little bit of honey or maple syrup is the way to go. We also cut them into small pieces and roast them in coconut oil with cinnamon and get them nice and crispy on the edges. The honey or maple is still a nice…
  • Agreed. My wife and I ate brats almost every night, almonds by the pound, and wrapped everything in bacon that would fit such as dates and asparagus. We ate way to many sweet potatoes and the first thing we did was try to make paleo versions of pizza and key lime pie. We didn't loose much weight if any. We did feel better…
