I bet an all carb breakfast would bump blood sugar which would then fall rapidly, causing a sluggish feeling.

Cold turkey worked for me. It's been a month and it's been harder than quitting smoking. There's a carbonated cranberry juice my grocery store carries that's tasty and doesn't have added sugar. It's a nice sub as long as I'm careful not to overindulge.

Lost 100, regained 75. Sigh. Picks self up, dusts self off and tries again. 6 down, 69 more to go.

Depends on what you mean by "getting back into running". You mentioned basic - in the general scheme of things you probably didn't run much. If that's the case C25K is decent. It's very conservative. As the name implies, it can take a couch potato and get him running for 30 minutes. If you've got somewhat of a running…

Not true You need a calorie deficit to lose fat You need a calorie surplus to create muscle. It looks like those two things are mutually excusive but they're not. A calorie surplus can obviously come from eating less. However your body also metabolizes fat in the creation of muscle so you can build muscle and burn fat at…

Careful - it'll turn you into an Inhuman.

Not a bad way to go. White chili with a chicken base is also excellent.

Or a handful of nuts.

I'm getting back into it. About 18 months ago I had made a lot of progress, thinking about a triathlon. Things changed and I lost access to the pool. I'm kinda starting all over again. Last week I started the 0-1650 program. Once I can do a passable mile I'll start doing targeted workouts. I'm strictly freestyle. No real…

I've had impure thoughts about burgers with bacon, mushrooms, swiss and salami. I've lusted after wings. I have a happy relationship with my nutrition but to say I struggle with fidelity would be understating the truth, perhaps even an outright lie. The other night I strayed. After spending a loving day with nutritious…

Nuns always told us that'd make us blind.

I'm about the same age and stressed as well. I think I might sell my 14 year old daughter to the gypsies. It'll help with my stress levels and I can use that money for personal training.

Firstly, welcome to step one. Step two is talk to your doc. Lots of nutrition info on this website as well as others. It'd be difficult to really address that in a single message. Ultimately the key is take in fewer calories than you burn and you'll lose weight. Browse around, read a bit and develop something that works…

Trail running - same thing but faster. :)

Photoshopped or not, whether you find that attractive or not, as a principal, there's nothing wrong with throwing everything you've got at a goal that may very well be beyond your reach. It's a good opportunity for growth.

If you ever have an Eat Like a Hobbit challenge I'm in.
-
Whatever time you can get it done is the right time.
-
Sweet. I'm in. Just make sure you put me on the winning team. If you don't I'll be hounding you for my money back come spring.

I agree. If I'm in a group of 87 people, especially an online group, I might as well be alone. If the challenge maxes out at 70 people, how many people will be in a group? I'm tempted and on the fence. Give me a push and I'll join.

Good news is working out helps manage stress about as well as meds do.

I just started the 0-1650 program this morning. Once I complete that I'll start looking up intermediate swim workouts and pair that with Strong Lifts 5 x 5. Should be a good first several steps to regaining some of my fitness.

You training for anything?

At the very least a good stretch. If you're able to tap into the spiritual aspects of it the benefits are much more than physical. Not everyone is interested in that, though. Personally I've found yoga helps my weight loss not because it's a hearty workout but because it clears my mind and helps me navigate good choices…

I'm on day 3. It's worse than quitting smoking.

I'm going to leave my wife. I want to look good once I'm back on the market.
-
For some reason I can't do that. There's something hardwired into my mind that has an all or nothing mentality. One is too many because a thousand's never enough. If I have one, I'm having three. Per day. Every day. It's not just this, I approach my hobbies the same way.

I wish to god I could moderate but I'm all or nothing. Multiple energy drinks per day, multiple liters of soda. The hard part for me is the fact that I drink sugar free so I know I'm not piling a gazillion tons of calories and sugar into my diet so it's really hard for me to think of this as a big deal. I've quit here and…

I'd be shocked if that were true. If it is I would guess the difference is minimal and probably only on paper.

I'm with you. Lost a bunch, regained most of it. Time to pick myself up, dust myself off and move forward.

You didn't wake up defeated. You woke up with a blank slate. Do with it what you will.
