I also trained on the treadmill, then moved to the outdoors in the spring. I was surprised at how much harder it was. Keep at it, though. Your body catches up within a few weeks. It just has to learn to move your body forward, which is another set of muscles. Just pull it back a little (shorter running intervals, for…

You're doing really great. Try slowing down if you feel really tired and winded.

I had to laugh at the gummy bear song but we've got to do what we've got to do, right? So true about making some runs suck in order to get better. I do enjoy my "long, slow" runs and they are great for my stamina but it's the hilly or shorter, faster runs that push my limits.

Eat the carrots before you go to the restaurant, if you must. This will take away a lot of the hunger and make you more aware of the food in the restaurant. Celebrations will always be part of life, so learning to maneuver through the meals is a useful tool. Plan ahead by exercising a bit each day and not eating back the…

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your story. Well done!

I enjoy listening to audio books while running. For myself, I have to find a book I enjoy but don't mind setting aside until my next run. It's a tricky balance at times. My library has preloaded cassettes. All I add is a battery and my ear buds. Perhaps your library also has them? Worth checking out.

Enter your stats into MFP and it will calculate your daily calorie goals without exercise. Stick with that and you'll lose at an average of your goal. When you exercise, add it into your exercise diary and eat back half of the calories that MFP lists. That's because many people find the total exercise calories to be too…

Okohme, that reminds me of this blog entry. Was this the one you mean? It's a wonderful entry. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5051269

Keep running! You're a runner and no one can tell you otherwise. People who don't run don't realize that running takes determination, not a perfect body. Just keep going out and enjoy your runs. I could lose a few pounds myself but I'm still out there running....not fast, not prettily but I'm out there. Way to go!

I like making a mixed vegetable salad (usually without lettuce, so that makes it more of a marinated vegetable dish) with some protein added (meat, fish, cheese). Or I have left-overs from the night before, concentrating on the protein and veggies only. Add a piece of fruit and it can be quite filling. Lettuce wraps are…

I go on maintenance over Christmas. That allows me to make good choices at meals and leaves a bit of room for a glass or two of wine and/or a sweet or two. I also try to make sure I go for a walk every day to help....just in case there's an extra cookie or two ..or I don't log accurately enough. Try to relax and enjoy the…

I log exercise after doing it. I log exact calories from my garmin or treadmill, which are lower than what MFP would give me.

Sorry to hear of your heart problems. Hope things are getting better. Weight loss is mainly diet; not exercise. Are you weighing and logging your food? Are you watching your sodium intake? How long have you been logging your food? It sometimes takes a few weeks for your body to stabilize and adjust. The best exercise,…

Just outside of Vancouver, It's wet but not windy yet. Supposedly the winds will be here shortly. So far, it was worse yesterday.

I'm 58 years old and have used MFP for a few years now and am maintaining my weight. Throughout, I stayed within my calorie goal and ate back about half of my exercise calories. I lost an average of 1 lb/week when I was losing (which was my set goal). To ensure that I didn't overeat, I manually halved the calories MFP or…

Sounds delicious. I never use instant oatmeal either. Have you tried steel cut oats? So delicious. It takes longer to cook (about 20 minutes) but I cook them once in awhile because they taste so good. I laughed at the "almost milk" (I realize you meant almond milk). Smoked salmon with eggs sounds wonderful.

This was my breakfast, too. It lasted me through a long walk.

I had said that physio was a big help when my shoulder was frozen. Without it, the range of motion may not have completely returned.
-
Never mind.....this is an old thread.

Have you looked into an insulated lunch box/container or a small cooler with ice packs? You can pack almost anything in them.

I make oatmeal using almond milk and sometimes add a bit of Ovaltine for a chocolatey flavor. I like adding blueberries to oatmeal as well.

Mashed avocado is a good mayo substitute for tuna salad as well.....it tastes delicious but you have to get used to the greenish colour.

@Rinde99: You've got the determination, so my guess is that you're going to do great!

Mine does, too. The hardest thing for me is to be okay with running slower than I feel I "should" be running. I'm slowly learning that running too fast can make for a miserable run because I'm tired, sore, uncomfortable, etc. I'm now consciously running "long and slow" every second run. It's a struggle to keep my pace…

You are all doing great! Remember to slow down as required. Focus on making the time; don't worry about speed. Keep up the effort; it's well worth it.
-
Great advice. This is something that I'm just learning now......after about 4 years of running. It's great advice. I now run every second run at a slow-for-me paced and it's a better, longer, more motivating run.

I do this, too. Donation doesn't happen often enough to interfere with weight loss. Eat the cookies and enjoy them as a "freebie" for that day. Thanks for donating!

Green means the number of calories you can still eat today. Red means that you've gone over your daily calorie limit by that many calories. Red numbers don't mean you "should" exercise more. It means you overate, according to your goal plan, today. Exercising will give you more calories to eat today, which will reduce the…

This group is active and very supportive. It helped me through my training: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/30-couch-to-5k-running-program-c25k

You should work out at your own speed. You should be going very slow when starting. I completed the entire C25K on the treadmill. Make sure that your breathing isn't too laboured. A common (and, I find effective) test is to speak a short sentence aloud. If you're panting it out, slow down. Something to remember: a person…
