Encouragement and Goals for February
Our motivation group did really well in January. I thought it might be nice to start another thread for February. We could list our goals (if we have any) or just drop by every day or so to encourage and comment on anything at all. Who's in? If you have specific goals, what are they? How's the weather in your area? What's…

Hello??
Hi, I'm new here. My name is Petra (pronounced Paytra). Anyone still checking in here? It seems awfully quiet. Is it the holidays?
-
Is anyone still here?
Hi there! I just joined and now noticed that there's been no activity since September. Is anyone still checking in here? Anyone still walking, running or both?

Hi....I'm new. Anyone still running?
Hi, my name is Petra (pronounced Paytra) and I've been running for 2 years now. I'm not fast and won't be running any marathons but I enjoy running. I usually get in 3 runs a week, 5K each with some extra walking before and after as a warm-up & cool-down. Today I ran on the treadmill. I did 7K in 64 minutes. Today's run…

Anyone still drinking coffee? :D
Hi, I'm new here and drink coffee every morning. In December, I have a bit of eggnog in my coffee instead of milk for a more festive cuppa....and a rather cheap way of enjoying an imitation eggnog latte. I'm not a big fan of Starbucks but do enjoy some of their flavored coffees; yet tend to stick with the lower…

Running routes.....where/how to find new & interesting ones?
I'm beginning to think my runs may be a bit boring. I enjoy my runs but the routes are becoming mundane, a bit. I live in a suburb where the roads kind of twist and turn and circle each other so there are very few routes I can take and those routes are becoming too familiar. I need new routes and am contemplating how to…

GPS Watches.....tell me the differences, please
I have a Garmin Forerunner 10 GPS watch. I'm very happy with it except for a couple of minor items: - the battery only lasts about 4 hours (not a big deal for running but is problematic for longer hikes) - I can only set walk/run intervals up to 10 minutes each - elevation is not tracked and if I slow down too much on a…

GPS watch Calories burned during running; how accurate?
I'm just curious. I don't really track my calorie burns (other than to post them on MFP) but have noticed that the calories on my GPS watch seem low at times. I found an on-line calculator (http://www.runnersworld.com/tools/calories-burned-calculator) and compared todays run. I ran 8K and walked 1.17K (warm up & cool down)…

Tell us about your run today
I went out on my run this morning and had a good time. Weekend runs are the best. I have various routes around my home; most are relatively level, a couple are rolling hills and one is quite hilly. I try to run the hilly route once every week to week & a half. Today I ran the hilly route. The first part (about 2K) is a…

Shoe question
I've only had 2 pairs of true running shoes. The first were a pair of Saucony Pro Grid 5's. They felt great on my feet. I bought my second pair of shoes when I started to feel my feet after a run. They didn't hurt but felt used and tired, which they hadn't before. I think they had about 400 Km on these shoes when I bought…

2014 Fitness Resolutions?
Is anyone setting any fitness resolutions for the New Year? I've only got a few. I still find myself thinking that there is a good chance that I won't continue with my fitness, even though I'm enjoying the new lifestyle and keeping on track without problems. It's the old me coming through and one goal is to finally conquer…

First treadmill workout of the season
Now that we've switched the hour back, it's too dark when I get home from work to go out running. Today was my first treadmill workout. I've set the incline to 2 and it feels very similar to running outdoors on flat ground. I'll treat 2 as "flat" and 4 as "hill" for the time being and see how that works. Also, I was…

October C25K Challenge (everyone)
This months challenge: First person to 30 miles will receive a post card from me! This challenge is to help build on the endurance you are creating. To ensure an injury free challenge, I am keeping the miles minimal. One of the best cross training you can do alongside the C25K is walking. Walking helps build time on your…

I broke my personal record!
Today I ran 5K in 39:23. I broke under 40 minutes for the first time ever! I feel great! Also, I'm slowly increasing my distance. Today I wanted to test myself a little bit. After running my 5K and a 5-minute walk to rest up, I ran a slow 1K (8:17), walked 5 minutes, slow ran another 1k (8:46). This broke another record: I…

Bridging from treadmill to outdoors
I'm still in the process (sigh) of bridging from the treadmill to the outdoors. However, I have now gotten the hang of it!!!! Yay! I've been doing a combination of hill training, easy flat routes, trails, etc. I can now jog 5K outdoors with very few walking breaks. The distance I cover in the walking breaks are over and…

I am getting better...
I spent the last 3 weeks jogging around the block (I was on-call at work and had to be within a few minutes from home). The route is a hilly one and I looked a this time as a hill-training experience. Today was my first jog on level ground again and I'm running longer and faster! I'm now running a 13.5 minute mile. Still…

Transition from Treadmill to Outdoors
I was in The Running Room today looking for new shoes. Amid all the questions, it came up that I was making the transition from treadmill to outdoors and finding a big difference in my stamina/endurance. The representative told me that in order to get the same workout on a treadmill as one would get outdoors, one needs to…

Walk/Run to Rivendell (and beyond)?
I just saw a topic of "how many miles did you run in 2012?" and that brought to mind a Walk To Rivendell challenge I saw many years ago. I had a look and it's still there: http://home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/Walk/walk.html (click on "hobbiton to rivendell" for distances/locations). Since it's January 1st, who would…

Challenged myself with a hilly route
According to gmaps, the route I took today ascended just under 100 meters and I jogged up about 3/4 of it. I'm pretty happy with that. Also, my time was not longer at the end for going the same distance so I think I may be speeding up just a titch. The next 3 weeks will be challenging. I'm on-call at work which makes the…

Getting back to it.....
I've had a busy 10 days and have only gotten one run in during that time. It was a gorgeous run, along the oceanfront, but the only one. Today I recommit myself to being a better and more consistent runner. Today will be my first run in one week. It'll be brutal, I'm sure, but I'm going to push myself and get back on…

Week 7......just starting
I completed W7D1 today. It went harder than I thought it would be but I made it through. Anyone else doing W7 this week?

Week 3.....Anyone?
Just finished W3D1. That second 3-minute jog was tough but I made it. Anyone else doing W3 this week?

Playing music while working a session
When I play music while working through a C25K session, the music stops after 30 seconds. I have to start it again and it starts where it stopped. Then it stops after 30 seconds. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Hi...new here
Hi! I just found this site last week and am still finding my way around. This is the first time I've tried to lose weight and it'll be a learning process, I'm sure. So far, I'm keeping to my calorie goal and trying to eat in a healthy way. Some foods are surprisingly high in calories. It's quite an eye-opener. Last week, I…
