  • Sometimes we need a bit of a break. Than we get back on track. You're doing great. Glad to see you back with a plan.
  • As the3dwizard said, you can "save" 100 calories a day for the weekend. As well, you can workout a few times over the week and not eat those calories, "saving" them for the weekend, too. Prelogging is great. You can change the entries if you don't stick with them but having things pre-logged shows you what to expect.…
  • Not necessarily. If you "save" some calories today, you won't feel guilty when you go over by 100 calories on another day. It will happen. Things will even out. If you're hungry, have a snack. If you are within a 100 or so calories of your goal (plus or minus), don't worry about it. It will even out over time.
  • 1. Eat 1200 calories + 1/2 of the calories that MFP says you burn on your walks and bike rides, for starters. 2. If you feel weak or tired or dizzy, eat 1200 calories + all of the calories MFP says you burn on your walks and bike rides. 3. If you still feel weak or tired or dizzy, reduce your weight loss goal to 1.5 or 1…

  • An apple, some yoghurt, a Fiber One snack, some candy, licorice, a tomato.....anything that is up to or just under 100 calories. Were you thinking of something particular?
  • Welcome, Dlarsentx!
  • How are you measuring your food? It's not likely that you gained a pound of fat in a week; it's most likely water weight. A new exercise regime will make you retain water for awhile. Have a look at your food diary. How much sodium have you consumed in the past week, particularly in the 3 days before weighing? High sodium…
  • Sounds like you may be eating more than you think. Cups and palms are very inaccurate measuring devices. Try using the scale for all solids for a month and see what happens.
  • How are you measuring your food? If you aren't using a food scale, the problem may be there. You don't need exercise to lose weight, so that shouldn't be the issue.
  • Heat stresses the body. I slow down during the hotter days of summer. I run slower but for the same amount of time. Even though I run fewer miles during this time, when fall comes around I find I haven't lost any fitness ground and have even improved a bit. The heat adds its own cardio to the routine, even if you slow…
  • Hit your calorie target. It already has a calorie deficit worked in to ensure that you lose weight at a healthy rate. Eating below that only makes things harder and is unsustainable in the long run.
  • I never told anyone outside the home. I found it took the pressure off of me. No one commented on my food or asked how I was doing. I just did what I had to do. When people offer food, politely say "no thank you" in some way: "no thank you, I've just had a large lunch", for example. Then smile and continue your day. If…

  • Congratulations on your 5K, lorrpb!! That's a great achievement! Dark chocolate is a wonderful treat. I agree with lorrpb. 58 here. I've lost 22 pounds, regained about 10 and am now refocussing. I'm good with food control; not so much with snacking control. I also run; started about 4 years ago. I walk a fair…
  • Set your weight loss goal on MFP to 1lb/week. MFP will give you your daily calorie requirement *without exercise*. Eat that much a day to lose 1 lb/week. When you exercise, you need to fuel that workout by "eating back" those calories. However, many find that the posted calorie burns are rather high, so the common method…
  • This! Here there is no self-consciousness; just good people trying their best to make their goals. Welcome!
  • You're off to a great start. Way to go!
  • Welcome! You're at the right place. There's lots of support here.
  • Yes. Fats and carbs are good foods when balanced with other nutrients. Your body needs a variety. Stay within your calorie allowance and you'll lose weight.
  • As long as you are weighing and logging everything you eat & drink and it fits into your calorie allowance, you can have anything you like. Have that steak and enjoy every bite.
  • Are you weighing your food? You should be eating more for nutritional purposes. How many eggs? How large a piece of cheese? How thick the slice of toast? These items alone could add up to 700 or close to it. You won't know if it's not weighed. You may be eating more than you think you are. What is your weight loss…
  • If it's just a taste and only once or twice, I would ignore it. If it's a fair number of tastes throughout the day, I would add 100-200 calories with the "Quick add calories" option in the diary.
  • I like classic rock, too. It's got a good treadmill/walking/running tempo. Nice walking routine!
  • Start small. C25K or some other running program will give you a focus and daily goal to reach, which makes your training easier. Run slow. You'll think you're already going slow but you need to slow down yet some more. Speed will come in time. Get good shoes, properly fit at a Running Store. Your body will thank you. Run…
  • Watching TV while on the treadmill really helps pass the time. I usually walk/run a "normal" pace during the show and speed up the pace during the commercials (some commercials seem awfully long. ). Keep up the good work. Those years don't have to be felt yet (speaking from experience....although there are…
  • That's a great weight loss average. It's healthy & sustainable. Way to go!
  • Plan your menu a day ahead and pre-measure and log. The next day, you're food is ready and you don't have to calorie count. I think it's pretty common to have a tendency to "obsess" but if you keep it in check, it's a natural way of being aware of your intake. Over time, if you keep a close eye on what "size" the food…
  • C25K is meant to be a 3-day a week program. You need to rest up between days to give your body time to heal and rest. New exercise of any type causes micro tears in the muscles that need to heal. This is part of the strengthening process. Space your training out for 3 times a week for running C25K. If you want to exercise…
  • I'm currently on City of Mirrors. I really like this trilogy. Glad that you're enjoying it as well.
  • Congratulations! That is a great accomplishment! You are doing great!

  • C25K is a guide. You can (and should) adjust it to your needs if it moves too quickly for you. If the first week works well for you, do that for a second week. Then increase your running by 30 seconds and decrease your walking by 30 seconds. See how that works. You may need to adjust it more. For example 4 sessions of Week…
