He had gained a little bit of weight, maybe 10-15 pounds, but was still well within a healthy range. He was concerned because he had gone from a 33" trouser to a 34" (he's 6'1"). It's gone now, all he had to do was stop having a piece of cake at work in the afternoon and drink a bit less beer. He still has ice cream…

My (thin) husband was curious when I started MFP, so he loaded the app and started logging his food. He was shocked. He honestly had no idea about the calorie, fat or salt content of his food. It's very easy to eat more than you think you're eating, and weighing, measuring and logging your food, even for a brief period,…

I can drink coffee black only if it's good coffee. The sweetener and milk is usually there if it's instant or crap coffee.

No. This is not true. Putting an apple (or any other fruit) in a blender does not cause it to gain calories. Cooking it only adds calories if you add them as another ingredient. First law of thermodynamics: energy can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed.

I use mine mostly for cereal, pasta, and occasionally bread. I bought some hamburger buns yesterday, and they are all different sizes for some reason, so I would have logged the wrong amount if I hadn't weighed them to check. With only a 1200 calorie goal, I don't have a lot of wiggle room.

Mushrooms, because I don't like them. Blech. Seriously, though, I have cut down on fruit juice to just a very rare thing, because there was a time I could drink a litre of orange or pineapple juice without even trying.

Guys, would you mind taking your disagreement to another thread? I'm not sure it's helping the OP.

I'm a dual US/UK citizen, living in the UK for ten years now. I have found that the level of movement I get just from the activities of normal life in the UK are higher than when I'm in the US, because, well, cars. We were in the US for three weeks over Christmas, and even though we tried very hard not to overeat, we both…

Love this idea!

If you like drums and bagpipes, nothing can get you up a hill like Clanadonia, Keepin it Tribal :), particularly Tu-Bardh and Hamster Heid: http://www.clanadonia.co.uk/music-video/

That's great advice for someone who is looking to improve an existing workout routine, but for someone who is struggling, setting the bar so high from the start can be quite off-putting and may discourage them. The OP is just starting off, and making some progress. She, and indeed anyone, can lose weight and become more…

Thanks everyone for the kind words. As a stepmom, I am so careful about not setting off "landmines" and I don't always get it right. This one I really needed to get right, so the positive feedback helps :). I am very fortunate that her mum and I have a good relationship. Now if we can just deal with puberty . . .

Just to echo what others are saying, walk. I can't walk fast really, but I walk every single day, and it really helps.

Try some pro-biotics. They may help.

I'm keeping an eye on the number to reach when the BMI chart says I'll no longer be overweight and back in the normal range, but that's not really my goal number. I like this one, as it takes into account frame size: http://www.superskinnyme.com/ideal_weight_calculator.html What I've always found frustrating is that no…

thank you :)

I have one meal/day per week when I just don't worry about it. This helps me keep focused the rest of the week and allows me to have a stress-free date night meal out with my husband where I'm focused on us having a good time and not worried about adding up calories. It may slow my weight loss down a little, but it's worth…

It sounds like a fitbit calorie adjustment. At 19,000+ steps, you are not sedentary. Sedentary is <5,000 steps/day.

My husband is tall and slim, and while he wants to eat more healthily and is generally supportive by going on walks with me, I keep most of my weight loss stuff to myself. At most, I'll ask him to walk with me or point out that I only have 400 calories left for dinner when he suggests going to get fish and chips rather…

You don't have to walk fast, you just need to move. I'm shorter and older than you, and don't walk very fast either, I just keep moving and try to reach 10,000 steps. Some days I'm faster than others, and on days I don't walk I try to do yoga or some strength training. I'm tempted to try the recumbent bicycle at the gym,…

I kind of like this one, as I have a large frame: http://www.superskinnyme.com/ideal_weight_calculator.html It gave me around the same number I was thinking already anyway.

Because I have very large breasts, which do not get smaller when I lose weight, muscular legs and a large frame (6" wrist), my face and arms get gaunt and I start to look unwell, which causes my family concern. 125 may look chunky on you, but on me, it looks fine, in part because several pounds of it is boobs. This is the…

Get a butter bell.

I don't eat a lot of butter, but I really enjoy it when I do. I haven't touched margarine since I saw that video where the ants wouldn't eat it.
-
Yes, just fit it into your calories. My treats are sometimes Magnum mini ice creams, a bit of cadbury chocolate, a shortbread biscuit. I don't actually have one every single day, but knowing I can fit it in helps me stick to my goals.

I'm 5'1" and have big boobs (currently 34E). I feel best around 125 or so, which if I recall correctly was 38-27-38. If I get much thinner than that, people around me start to worry, and rightfully so.

In general, everyone (men and women) should aim for a waist no larger than half their height : http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/849.aspx?CategoryID=51

Magnesium supplements work really well if you can't wait fibre, coffee, or prunes to work.
-
Did you put it at sedentary? I'm 5'1 and my fitbit puts my TDEE between 1400 and 1800, depending on my activity level for the day. As KarenJanine said, set the MFP goal at 1/2 pound a week. You should eat back at least some of your exercise calories. Those of us who are short have to lose more slowly, I only achieve 1-1.5…

Fruit and veg, really. I'm only 5'1'', which is why I keep to 1200-1300. Also, I can only sustain it really if I have one maintenance level day per week. I could raise the calorie level every day, but having that one day when I can have a meal out and a glass of wine with my husband is better for me.
