  • I was just having this conversation. I too no longer enjoy eating - at all. I eat but only as a function for living. Sometimes it bugs me that I don't even midly enjoy eating the little bit of food I'm eating.
  • I too was frustrated with my rate of loss. First, I had to learn to accept it (didn't have to like it) so that I wouldn't starve myself at 500 cals a day. My dietician wanted me up to 700-900 cals a day. Working out or not. She also recommend more fluids. Believe it or not if you drink more you don't retain fluid. (Don't…
  • This one was definitely a challenge for me. As others have sad a swollen tummy makes it difficult to meet goal volumes. I tried to find a temperature that worked - some were definitely better than others - warm was best for me (room temp or lukewarm). Ice cold and hot made my new pouch ANGRY. Also, sometimes broth worked…
  • I completely agree. Changing my thoughts and habits around food and excercise are the only way for me to maintain.
  • Congratulations! Sending lots of good thoughts your direction. I'm nearly four months out and thrilled with the surgery. :)
  • Welcome to the group! My surgery date was 10/18/12 (VGS) and I want to second the note of not comparing your loss to other's. I was really dissapointed at first and had a hard time accepting the rate I was losing. I'm much happier now that I've accepted I'm losing at the rate my body know it needs to - I can't control the…
  • I too have an IUD - going to switch from Mirena (hormones) to Paragaurd (sans hormones) because I've definitely noticed the mood difference. I know I'm kinda of new out of the gate AND I have an IUD but I'm definitely having multiple periods, stall in weight loss, during the bloat, etc. I'd definitely talk to your Gyn -…
  • I had a similar thought today. For so many of the same reasons. Like you, I understand the importance of feeding my body what it needs to thrive and I wouldn't interfere with that - but eating has become more of a chore than something I enjoy. In other words, I can totally relate!
  • Hi Katrina! I second everything that's been said. A note on the protein - I tried a lot! I seem to be very intolerant of most. So finding someplace I could by samples from was awesome (unfortunately, I tossed a lot...bummer). Vitalady.com offers samples of lots of different flavors for $2.99 (the last time I bought some -…
  • I agree with what’s been said…and here’s a bit of my two cents…for what it’s worth. I don’t claim to be an expert and I would never presume to tell someone the absolutes of this journey. But I love to share because I don’t know what I would have done, if others hadn’t shared their journey’s with me. What I know about food…
  • My starting weight was 263, the day of surgery 10/18/12 I was 244, and as of today my weight is 206. I'm hoping to get down to 130-135 - I'm 5'5''. I do exercise - I pretty much hate the gym, don't like to run, feel like a rodent on any cardio machine...I think I'd be considered a "picky" exerciser. I walked at first and…
  • Similarly to Geri - I wear a full face mask. Resmed Quattro FX. Love it since I'm a mouth breather - I never have dry mouth and I tolerate it really well. I've never had an issue other than having to occasionally adjust it to correct minor air leaks. http://www.resmed.com/us/products/quattro_fx/quattro-fx.html?nc=patients
  • I too have been on my psych meds before and immediately after surgery. My surgeon wanted to avoid a depressive episode. Would you be open to discussing this with your surgeon in a firm matter? I support you being your own advocate - your surgeon understands the surgery but not necessarily the psych side. When I talked to…
  • Truly amazing! What a wonderful thing to share! I wish you all the best on the last phase of your journey! I hope it's coming along quite nicely.
  • I had my surgery at Banner Gateway. Dr. Rob Schuster was my surgeon. Awesome program and wonderful surgeon. Would definitely recommend he and his staff. They have support programs (free) 3 times a month for both folks who are pre and post op in their program and to the public. Very well rounded.
  • So glad to know I'm not the only one who goes through the major hunger/cravings a week before TOM. So glad you brought this topic up! Jess
  • I had someone take my kiddos and the dog the first couple of nights. A friend drove me home and was close by if I needed her - but I was alone the first week and I was fine. The dog's home (she's an itty bitty thing and all I really have to do is let her out) as are the kids and we're all fine. I'm glad I had a few days at…
  • Oh yes, my family's favorite quote "You're such a beautiful girl when you're thin" - what the Heck?! Healthier - okay maybe. More active sure....but good grief.
  • Lived lots of places - currently I live in Gilbert, AZ - Howdy fellow Arizonan's! Jess
  • Why and the HECK do people think surgery is the easy way out?! It baffles me. Like, uh, I haven't tried everything else under the sun. And surgery is a tool. Not a magic wand. Viola! You're thin and you'll never have to watch what you eat, learn to cope life long with emotions that drive cravings, and never have to…
  • Hi Jessica here! So glad to be here 1 week-ish post op. My surgery date was 10/18/12. Entering my second week post op. Starting to push myself a bit in the exercise (walking) department.. Man, have had lots of emotions since the surgery. Lots of ups and downs. Was frustrated the scale wasn't moving at all. Hoping it'll…
