  • My goal is 3 runs per week minimum with a total monthly goal of 70 miles. And to keep up with this thread (sort-of) Not starting off very well this month. My first run was June 4th....I might get 2 more runs in before the end of the week. (fingers crossed). There has been a break in the heat and humidity. It was 78 degrees…

  • 2 days without snacking. It helps to drink a lot of water.....several bottles of water....then there's no room for food.
  • So not posted all month practically. Very hot and humid days in Indy....weather in the 90's and no rain. We don't have central air in our house and only a little air conditioner unit in the bedroom. I have been hanging out in the bedroom when not running or at work. I am only 15 pages behind in reading everyone's posts…
  • Not doing well....have the munchies today. I think that when I force myself to stay awake when my body really wants to sleep, I really struggle.
  • On a non-running note, did anyone see the 60 minute report on the effort to save the rhino species? The rhinos are on a farm in a top secret place (although 60 minutes found them) in order to protect their species. They are really beautiful animals and hate that they are almost extinct.

  • Are you waking up to fix a snack? Maybe you are not eating enough before going to bed? I try to eat a cookie a day or something like that. It keeps me from binging. I also try not to eat ice cream or anything "high fat" unless I work out that day. I don't get up from bed to eat snacks unless I go to bed somewhat hungry.…
  • I agree with what you are saying. I almost never missed a session with my personal trainer.....and it was expensive plus that was time that trainer we couldn't work with another client.Whereas if I am also spending money at a gym but not going, other clients can still use the gym. There is not that same type of…
  • I think that a person can succeed without an accountability friends. However being accountable does help with started those good habits...those life changing elements. I know plenty of times that I didn't want to go to the gym but did so because I felt accountable for someone taking the time to work with me. I do have…
  • I joined mfp because I couldn't lose weight anymore by working out at a gym and really didn't know what I was doing wrong. I also work the night shift and there is almost no advice with how to lose weight when working the night shift. My personal trainer talked me into mfp and I started logging daily. It was almost 6…
  • Keep working at it, Ralphone. Maybe save some calories for your favorite snack and then eat it before midnight. I have been eating more protein at the end of the day and it has been working out better for me.
  • 2 days in a row. No snacking. Tomorrow I go back to work. I have to figure out what "midnight" will constitute.
  • Goal for the month....50 miles. I have a half on Saturday....then hunkering down to watch the Kentucky Derby. My mom's 90th birthday was yesterday. We bought her an exerciser for her birthday. We brought it to her a couple of weeks ago. She is walking much better. It shows that one is never too old to exercise.
  • Finally achieved my monthly goal after failing the last 3 months. 4/12.....8 miles 4/15...5 miles 4/17...4.05 miles 4/21....7 miles 4/22....10.7 miles 4/28....12.3 miles Total.....47.05 miles Goal...40 miles. The good news is that the ache in my right hip finally subsided after I ran the 10.7 miles. I guess that I needed…
  • Late night snacking is my norm. I work the night shift. Any advice for night shifters?
  • Have you tried freezing some fruit for snack? I love frozen grapes or frozen bananas. Of course, there are days when only Ben and Jerry's will do. I try to make myself earn it though. I still go over on calories at times but doing better. Today I ate some miniature chocolates before I walked out the door at work. So I…
  • Ooo[h. Percolator! The best coffee ever.
  • Night shift worker here. Also 58 y.o. Drink lots of coffee.
  • I thought that I would weigh in ( no pun intended). I lost most of my weight in 2013. Still maintaining logging and weighing my food since then.....5 years (whew!) Anyhow I am 58 years old, will turn 59 in another month. I kept getting asked when I was going to retire. I was 54 years old at the time, which meant at least…
  • My goal for the month is 40 miles. 4/12....8 miles 4/15....5 miles 4/17.....4 miles. It was a cool dry day. I had a meeting at work this afternoon and planned to run a short run afterward. I had worked a 12 hour shift the night before and had very little sleep before the meeting. Also I hadn't eaten anything. I started out…
  • My goal for the month is 40 miles. 4/12....8 miles The weather was great! In the 70's. The trial that I run on was more crowded than usual. I started late and had hoped to run 9 miles but 8 was good. I am trying to get used to using a blue tooth that my husband purchased for me. It quit after 2 songs and I dreaded running…
  • 33 pages already! Naturally I am behind. I have 2 halves planned for May....May 5th and May 19th. I had to go home this week to visit my nearly 90 year old Mother. My husband and I spent an extra day there. I am going to start tomorrow with my first run of the month. I am planning on running the 40 miles this month. In…
  • I am finally posting on the March thread. I finished the month of March with 31 miles toward my goal of 40. I gave up reading around page 70 or so. You guys are great....such inspiration. I know that if I kept up with the thread, I would have made my goal somehow. I did run an 8K on March 31st ....my shortest race to date.…
  • @skippygirlsmom Gee, I just read about your ribs. Man! That's terrible. Yeah, sadly ribs heal on their own. Be sure to do some deep breathing...or just blow up balloons. Most people who get into trouble with broken ribs do so when they don't take deep breaths (because it hurts). I am glad to hear that you are doing better.
  • I am a late night snacker as well. (It feels like an AA meeting). Anyway, I try to keep my calories within goal. So I try to save calories until the end of my night. I also work the night shift...so often I eat to stay awake. Having recognized this, I pre-bag my snacks and lunch which I take to work. There are so many…
  • My mom grew up in the depression days and her best friend grew up on a farm. When they butchered a hog, she said that they utilized all of it in some type of meat except the "squeal" The only cake my mom baked was out of a box....add egg and water. They were okay...not great. The first time I had ham salad sandwiches was…
  • I remember eating braunsweiger sandwiches, meat between 2 saltines...not sure if it is goose liver or pork. It's actually delicious. My dad loved pickled pigs feet. When he opened the jar, I had to leave the table....felt like vomiting. The only organ meat we ate was liver. Mom cooked it or rather overcooked it once a…
  • My mother wasn't a good cook either but she liked to be praised after every meal. If we were silent, she would pat herself on the back. I remember partially cooked spaghetti mixed with American cheese...the pasta was still crunchy. Yuck! I don't like macaroni and cheese for that reason...too sticky/gummy flavorless. We ate…
  • Yikes! That is a serious flood! By the way, I loved it that you took the opportunity to run anyway. Kudos!
